I've never been very good at pigeon-holing things into different genres, so I was hoping for thoughts on this. The Mask of Zorro was on tv today and It started me thinking about putting him into Hero Terms and then I started considering genres, would you consider Zorro to be a pulp character. He seems to me to fit that style as he has similar traits to Indiana Jones who I would consider to be a pulp character. But the year doesn't match my perception of the pulp genre which is a circa 1920's detective story. So is my perception of pulp correct? Is pulp a style or a set period of time? Cheers Shem

Just finished watching my Dark Angel Season 1 DVDs. For those of you who don't know what it is, it's a "biopunk"y world - genetically modified superheroine in a post-apocalyptic world. Worth checking out season 1. Season 2 wasn't so hot, though. Anyway, anyone want to have a shot at statting up Max or any of the others? Laz

Does anyone know if there is any information anywhere for a Mad Max style setting for hero games? I might be running a game on this and want to try to find some information. Thanks!

IMHO, Time Travel really is its own Genre. One in which that is difficult to do and thus, rarely done. It is at the core of my RPGing. I have searched high and low for game mechanics that enable Time Travel to be done right and successfully. 'Successfully' equating to 'Fun'. My search stopped with HERO 5E. Concering RPGing, Time Travel should be more of a plot device than a game mechanic. Though, like I imply above; a game mechanic that works-helps a lot. That said, using your best experience/judgement; what tips can you offer me in using HERO 5E in this regard? Being new-at HERO 5E, my own experience/judgement tells me to ask the experts or tho…

So a long while back I got Nomad of the time streams in hard cover from the Sci-fi book club (It was 50 cents, can ya blame me?) and I like the worlds and ideas that Moorcock had for the different places that Bastable ends up. Has anyone considered using them in a Hero game?

Adventure! was sadly done before it's time. But with the release of Sky Capt. I have a good feeling that Pulp Hero is going to get a lot better reception by this time next year. I really do hope that it gets it's own forum here. Heck, getting one just before release would be nice. Otherwise, I can't wait to get into this book. Dark Champions is a delightful read and if Pulp is handled with just as much care, I'd be in heaven. HERO lends it's self ot Pulp very well. Hmmm. Western Hero...ever again?

The newest Ghost in the Shell theatrical film is playing in portland for one week. It pcisk up where the first film left off, but beyond that i know little of the plot. What I'm wondering is this -- if anyone sees this film, whioll they see significiant RPG possibilities in it, especially since the verison of Nakoto kusanagi that is seen in the new film is far different from the one we're used to?

Does Surbrook's Stuff or some other site have 5e HERO stats for the cast of the Tenchi-Muyo! OVA's. I;ve seen several writeups for Ryoko over the years -- she seems to have captured gamer;'s imagiantions -- but none for Ayeka, Sasami, Mihoshi, Washu or Tenchi himself. Not to mention Kagato -- one of the greatest anime villains ever. And Katushito/Yosho, whose motives are seeingly inexplicable at times.

Now that Capocom has sold their RPG rithgts to Living Room Games, I;'m wondering what they'll do with it. Still, i;d like to see soemthuing unoficcial for ti in HEro because: 1, HERO handles the fighting game genre very well, and 2. I suspect that with Campcom poulling the strings, they won't get to do the REALLY inetersting things with the characters. For example, I don't know in LR Games' system willl ahve soom for social disadavnatges (or indeed social anything), yet the classic Capcom fighting game characters should in theory have plenty of them. Street Fighter could practically have a relationship chart. I'm wondering whether I should ask if anyone h…

ACTUNG! PANZER! A Collection Of German Armored Vehicles From The Second World War The following collection of tanks is part of my attempt to further explore the vehicles rules. It came about after I started working on several Digital Hero projects involving vehicles of different sorts. I also wanted to try and define these tanks in a more comprehensive manner than the brief collection of panzers featured in the HERO System Vehicle Sourcebook. White Steve Long's Panzer V is an excellent write-up, I wanted to go into more detail into the other models, beyond what he'd done. I also wanted to tinker around with sloped armor and its effect on DEF, as first examined in …

I've been following a Saturday morning cartoon series imported from Europe called "Winx Club." It was started in the summer when most of the other series were reruns, and is not quite as awful as I may be making it sound at various points. Basic premise: It takes place in the present day, though we swiftly learn that Earth is considered a primitive backwater because most of the people there can't use magic. Not sure if it's ever explained *why* Earth is different that way. Anyhow, the rest of the galaxy is populated by people who look more or less human, but have access to magic/magical technology. One planet is the base for three exclusive boarding schools for …

here ya go, heres a rough draft idea the MG armarment and the flight speed/range/ceiling are based on the the P-40K Warhawk data taken from a Reprint of Janes WW2 Fighter Aircraft hard telling which warhawk variant its based on, so I used the most common one The actual plane could mount a centerline fuel tank which would add another hours flight endurance I am trying to figure out what Frankies plane is based on, or if its something custom, the Janes I have doesnt show anything that comes close.

Every now and then you need a cool vehicle for a game. That top secret one of a kind airplane, or a nifty sub for your take on Voyage to the bottom of the Sea. I've gathered a few and posted the addy in the champs group, but it's not just really supervehicles, so I thought I'd post the link here as well for those who don't frequent the Champs boards. http://mywebpages.comcast.net/proditor/Vehicles.htm

I'm a die-hard Highlander fan. I've created a Highlander campaign for HERO 4th Edition, and I started the translation into 5th Edition since I got the book, although I haven't worked on it for a while. I wven posted the stats for Duncan MacLeod (the TV series hero) on the web. Here's my latest take on the immortal package deal. I used to put in a whole bunch of powers, but it led to too many cookie-cutter characters. Also, not all immortals have the same powers. I therefore stripped the package deal down to its bare bones. Only the powers all immortals share are included. I've also listed powers individual immortals can have. Any comments would be helpful. …

Has anyone thought of doing writeups from this series, or running a campaign along those lines? I find the cartoon to be amusingly subversive in its story of exceptionally highly-trained children who lead the fight against adult domination. As far as the main characters, they would all have skills up the wazoo, especially for kids. #1 would be a brilliant tactician and leader, #2 a technical genius, #3 has a mecha and is extremely charismatic, #4 is a deadly bare-knuckles brawler, and #5 is also a superb combatant. Their chief enemy appears to be the utterly devious Wonderful Children from Down the Lane, a group of let's-all-spoeak-in-unison Stepford Children wh…

Anyone written up Scorpion's (from Mortal Kombat) ability to pull another towards you? I can't figure it out. I imagine entangle & grab come into play, but what power brings the target to you (transform? from being over there, to being over here?). Similarly, I've wanted a "rocket powered" grapnel hook - like the one so commonly used in Quake (and other death-match/capture the flag PC games). Like the one Kim Basinger gets pulled up w/ in Burton's first Batfilm. I've got every 5E book, and have looked for such a writeup to no avail. I have found grapnel guns (w/ swinging & climbing), but none that actively pull a subject. Help would be gre…

Dust and Blood will be a Western Hero campaign set in the cinematic Old West. This is not a historical recreation, but a campaign meant to simulate the gritty, violent "spaghetti westerns'" and modern remakes of such movies and stories. Character may be shades of gray or even dark, but not out and out villains. All of them should have one unifying element, a desire to bring in, destroy a gang of cut throat robbers and renegades known as the Vulture's pack. For over a decade this band of lawless thugs has terrorized many a frontier town a committed just about every crime on the books and a few that haven't been wrote yet. Their legend is as such that their leader has been …

Well, I've just downloaded Hero Designer to tinker with my Guu character: I guess I'll go with the Reality Warp power in FH, the one based on EDM. The reason is, I want a single elegant solution themed on her eating and stomach dimensions. In FH, the game mechanic for the power blurs the distinction between making 'x' true, and taking someone to a dimension where 'x' is true. So far, so good, since I can take any crazy thing she does in the series and justify it by this power (I call it Bafu! which is the sound Hale hears when swallowed by Guu). Now I'm remembering a really great sourcebook for 3rd edition Hero, I can't remember it, but it was horror-themed with i…
