Need Feedback on a Campaign Idea [long]

Okay first I know that this idea is a bit of a rip-off of the Watchmen comic, so no need to make any comments about that how this idea has been done before. Side Note: Isn't it interesting how you can get an initial idea for a campaign and as you develop it, it ends up looking nothing at all like the original concept? I will try to give some background into the thought process that spawned this idea so that you will have a feel for the tone/flavor that I'm trying to invoke. I wanted to run a campaign that had the players controlling characters with significant power, and forced them to make choices about what they would do with that power. Eventually I decided t…

Does anyone know of any good Waisted West conversions for HERO?

Hey all I am planning on running a Post Apocalyptic one shot adventure (more Fallout than Gamma World) for a super small con/game day in a couple of weeks. After considering d20 Modern (and GW that goes with it -- which I worked on), Darwin's World, Tri-Stat dX, and Adventure, I decided on using HERO becuase I want to introduce my group to the system without forcing them to swallow the whole supers level HERO system (which can be a bit daunting for newbies). So, my question(s): Does anyone have extensive experience using HERO for PA games? Any advice on character and/or villain generation? Does anyone have any general advice for using Sidekick with HERO n…

I primarily run historical games and one of the most interesting aspects of history for me is the transformation of zeitgeists, paradigms, world-views, or whatever you wish to call them. For example, I'm currently reading a book "The Soul Made Flesh" by Carl Zimmer, which is about an English physician in the mid seventeenth century who dissected human bodies in order to understand the function of the brain. The book posits that up until this time, human personality, intelligence, and even basic life processes were believed to be the doings of an immaterial and immortal soul. Willis, the physician under discussion, was among the first people to shift this idea toward th…

okay found this on Slate about the movie Eternal Sunshine: "Particularly traumatic memories appear to be captured by two separate parts of the brain: the hippocampus, the normal seat of memory, and the amygdala, one of the brain's emotional centers. People incapable of forming long-term memories thanks to hippocampal damage can nonetheless form subconscious memories of traumatic events if their amygdala is intact. Someone suffering from the Memento condition would likely have a feeling of general unease encountering a person or a situation that had caused them harm in the past, though they wouldn't be able to put their finger on what was making them uncomfortable.…

August 12th, 2004. The day the Universe changed. The Earth is bathed in a white light, a light so intense it peirces even the most heavily shielded rooms. For a second the world is blinded by the the brillance. And then it was over. Nothing seemed to change. Time passed, people moved on and the "White Event" become a trite holiday based on a peculiar anomaly. Now it is 2008 and the true effects of the White Event have begun to make themselves known. People are appearing with strange abilities and powers. Powers ususually attributed to the Gods or figures of legend. You are one of these new beings, or a "normal" person struggling to cope with a rapidly changing world…

I figure this might be more interesting to guys who do more HERO-scale gaming, so I'll post a link here. My group has been using this alternate hit-location system for a while, and it's just plain fun. Give it a try for a session...it'll add spice to your combats, and your players will like it. http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16085

The following character sheets were adapted from White Wolf's Street Fighter RPG. Characteristics have been derived using the conversion notes given in The Ultimate Mentalist. Skills have been derived from skills and skill descriptions given in the White Wolf RPG. The values for skills were derived from the idea that 1 dot = 8-, 2 dots = 11-, and each additional dot as a +1 to the roll. Other skills, powers and disadvantages are taken from material given in the RPG sourcebooks. This is why many of the character sheets have similar powers (Combat Sense and Danger Sense for example), or unexplained contacts and followers. Such elements can easily be eliminated if des…

Hello all, How would you handle the wealth perk in a post apocalyptic setting? I mean, the players stock portfolios might be nigh-on useless Would it be a one time "cash" grab? How would a PA character have an income? Would it be representative of a lot of "trade goods" (difficult to transport)? What would you use for currency in a PA setting? Obviously our current system of cash would be utterly useless.

Players in the Zombie Dawn campaign, Avert your eyes. *shakes fist* AVERT THEM! Now, I'm having a bit of trouble balancing a campaign. Its a survival horror style game involving hordes of undead, a small town and all the ususual trappings. The creatures, while not shambling slowpokes are no faster than normal people, but I designed them as automatons (being corpses and all). They have the classic weakness of being vulnerable to being shut in the head but are otherwise pretty hard to destroy. The problem I didn't consider (call it over eager to start and a love a genre emulation) is that in game terms they are much tougher than it seems. Hitting the head is pretty ha…

Here's a question... I was thinking of how to do something along the lines of YuGiOh duelling monster summoning with HERO, but I was starting to think...Aren't most of the Monsters just special effects for Powers? Any damage done is done to your hero, therefore the monsters themselves are just manifestations of whatever power options you have available. It's kind've like being able to "see" a person's Variable Power Pool selections in front of you. Now the question would be, based on this, how could we set it up so that the opponent could wipe out the "powers". Would they have BODY points equal to their Active Points/5 or somesuch? With the blowthrough damage hi…

Hello all, I'm not overly familiar with this genre (at least in the running a game side of it) and I'm running into some questions, as I set up a campaign world for my players. I would most certainly appreciate any help. What kinds of Perks would be appropriate to this kind of genre (in general)? What would be used for currency aside from barter? Any suggestions on Plot Hooks (aside from the Mad Max movies)?
