Since it's mentioned on the front page, I thought I'd give a brief rundown on the project. Things is intended to be a cross-genre supplement for GMs looking for classic horror elements to include in their games. The book will be divided into nine section, with each section covering a 'type' of supernatural monster of being. Thus, it will cover ghosts, vampires, werewolves, zombies, and the like. The book will also introduce readers to the witiko (or wendigo), contain character sheets for such entities as Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, Jack the Ripper, and so on. I also plan on including some modern horrors, such as Greys, Men in Black, Mothman, and if I can find e…

I admit it. This isn't much of a plotline as obscure social satire. It's a reason for PCs to go blow up some cultists. Oh, and there are not-so-subtle parody elements to it. I know I'm gonna take heat for even writing this, but it's lunchtime in Indy, and I was bored. As some background, Ravenna is the name of my Urban Fantasy campaign, which features modern elements and crossworld fantasy tropes. Evil things lurk in both the city streets and the shadows of astral space. The Yigothu are a race of astral slavers I nicked from GURPS Cabal. Dark Dungeons: a Ravenna plotline Marcie “Black Leaf” Anderson was a typical gamer girl. Her GM, Ms. Vandela Frost, is an evil, Yi…

Lately I've been wondering how Mortal Kombat would work if it were redone as a post-apocalyptic setting, stripping out some of the more extreme fantasy aspects. I've been inspired by artwork on the web, gaming supplements like D&D's "Dark Sun" and maybe a bit of "Thundarr the Barbarian." Instead of alien races and magical realms, Shao Khan's empire is a place set on post-apocalypse Earth, peopled with mutant species of mankind, espers and the remnants of a high-technology society. "Magic" is actually a form of psionic power, some human subraces gifted with focused forms like cryokinesis and pyrokinesis. Once every twenty years, a great tournament is held at th…

Hi I'm currently working on 2 fanprojects which use hero system and I could use a bit of additional hands there (mostly in terms of gathering ideas and exchanging them). The 2 projects are sort of related as I want to try to be able to interchange things like species there without problems. Both have 6th edition hero as base. The two projects are: A fantasy setting (currently I'm working there on the magic system and on species mostly dragons atm but also others). A modern setting where one can play as mortal or as godspawn and take on professions like priests, samurai, shinobi,... I'm currently at the stage where I'm creating the rules aka the species / profes…

Herogames, I'm a little disappointed in you. You were given a chance to make the universe you created for Champions become a living, breathing online world with Champions Online... But somewhere, somehow, someone dropped the ball. I'm not here to point fingers and/or say who's to blame, and there'd be nothing to gain here by doing so anyway. But I'd like to explain a little how my wish to play a Champions computer game – one with the HERO System running it – remains unfulfilled by the reality of Champions Online. Primarily, as a player of Champions and the HERO System in tabletop form since 1982 and as a Lifetime Subscriber to Champions Online, I don't fee…

I'm working on a Cthulhu mythos-related short story. In the story, I want a game like CoC to play a part. The main character is a gamer who played it a while back. Then I became concerned about legal issues. I can mention anything from HPL's stories without fear as he released them into the public domain so that others could build on it. However, this isn't parody, so I can't name the game CoC, any modules, events or characters that are first used in the modules. I'm perfectly okay with this in principle. However, as the character played the game and his old character sheet and SAN rules actually play a pivotal role in the unfolding plot, I've gotten myself into a cor…

I floated this idea elsewhere, an Old West campaign. Pregens to include the Lone Ranger, Tonto, the Duke, Kwai Chan Caine, The Man With No Name, Tom Sawyer, James West, Artemus Gordon, and Dorothy Gale. For the first adventure, I'm thinking that the LXA (League of Extraordinary Americans) are all attending completion of the Trans-Continental Railroad in the USA. Kwai Chan Caine is driving rails. Tom Sawyer is a Union Pacific Detective, providing security. I'm thinking about using Brisco County Sr. Jonah Collier: So, Marshal Brisco County, now that you've rounded up the thirteen most notorious outlaws in all the west, including John Bly, what will do you do for an en…

I'm at the UAE's second minicon. Just finished running what I believe may be Arabia's first game of Car Wars. Busy proselytising Hero System - and have just been given (given!) A copy of Western Hero by a chap who's never used it (or played Hero). Boy, am I happy. This is a true classic.

Hello, I'm about to run my first Hero System game, and while I've played Hero System games, the game I'm looking to run is a bit different than what I've actually played using Hero System. For starters, the game I'm looking to run is actually a Space Fantasy game where advanced technology and magic not only exist side by side, but sometimes people (in the setting) mix the two. Most of the game I've played were either Superhero games where people could be as strong as warships and no one batted an eye, or Martial arts games where cars were "free" because they had no practical impact on the game beyond personal style. I have a few questions I wanted to pop forth before I ge…

Just wondering has anyone else on the Board been following this webseries? If so where do you think the starting points for the characters (especially the 4 main girls) should be? High Heroic? Low Superpowers? Has anyone actually started to stat out the characters or monsters?

I am running my PA Fallout based game and I have a question. (Apologies ahead of time if it is simple, I am still relatively new to the system) I need stats on a chainsaw. Does anyone know where one of these has been discussed or written up?

So the last two days, I've been typing like a mad fool. Bringing Cyber Hero up to 6th Edition from 20 years ago. I'm at 38 pages and 14,353 words. I've a way to go.... I really want to include some kind of netrunning Tron-like action, with Powers as programs. I could just translate the existing ones, but I'm keen to hear new methods... any thoughts?

I'm always coming up with game ideas, most of them go nowhere, but I had a weird one this morning that I thought I'd share. HERO System Kingdom rules. Each "Kingdom" is a Directorate in a Soviet-style government on a fictional recent-past (c.1956) Earthlike world. Each player is a Director of one of these Directorates. Directors almost always rise to the position of Supreme Director of the Red Star Republic (Soviet Union, right?). Very few Supreme Directors were military heroes or the like. Opposing the Red Star Republic is the People's Democratic Alliance (China) and Federated States of Placida (America). The GM plays the PDA and the FSP (and all of their litt…

What if you found a portal to a parallel universe? What if you could slide into 1000 different worlds? What if it's the same year and you're the same person but everything else is different? And what if you can't find your way home? Some of you may recognize the words above as the opening title sequence from the TV show Sliders. Well recently I've been considering starting a Sliders type roll playing game (using Hero rules of course) on rpol.net. (Since Hero Central may not come back) Of course it would not star the original stars, but the player's own creations. Four seasons of the show aired, and they visited a lot of different worlds. (About half …

I wanted to separate this from the Characters in Autoduel Champions thread. I've got Autoduel Champions, etc., and wanted to see how much I could do with just HERO System and its supplements. It turns out to be a lot, surprisingly. I'm thinking it may work for mecha as well, at least that's the hope. The Google document is here. In it I refer also to The Ultimate Speedster and a bit to Post Apocalyptic Hero.

Been a while since I played HERO, so I'll have to get up to speed, but it seems like that's the best system to use for a campaign set in the Borderlands Universe. The big thing is how to design the weapons and armor - my players will be new, so I'll probably be just handing an index card with the weapon on them. Here's what I want to take from Borderlands: 1) Each player has a certain amount of hit points that they can take before they fall over. 2) Armor *mostly* comes in the form of "force-shields," which are ablative, but very quickly regenerate when not under enemy fire. 3) Guns *do* cost character points, but these points will come from a VPP…
