A while back I was planning on a Champions game and I came across several resources that listed out a bunch of Disads/Talents/etc. Unfortunately, I've since lost that link. Do any of you know where I might find something like this?

I was lucky enough to pick up a DVD copy of the complete series of Martian Successor Nadesico, one of my favorite mecha naimes ever, at a bargain price. And it was a 100% legitimate North American boxed set! Combine that with my recent purchase of the feature film Martian Sucessor Nadesico the Movie: the Prince of Darkness (which has nothing to do with either Satan or Dracula, although there are some people in that movie who have done some pretty evil things) I am now hoping to cocoon myself for a few days with Aktio, Yurika, Ruri-Ruri and company. This seems to me like it would make a great RPG setting, especially since the anime series does not take itself at all s…

Hello all, New to the board and to the 5th Edition. I'm getting ready to start a "cinematic" cyberpunk/post apocalyptic style game with characters at the "Powerful Hero" level. One of things I want to simulate is how the characters in movies like Time Cop, Blade, Underworld et. al. always seem to reload their weapons at very random times. One moment their blasting away with hundreds of rounds from a 15 round clip and the next their reloading after 6 or 7 shots fired. I want this to be a standard component of every gun in the game world and was wondering how I would write that up. Equipment is going to be handled with a free Equipment Pool in the same…

I don't remember if I posted this before, sorry if I did...But I thought it might of interest to some here... I just finished a HERO Campaign not to long ago based loosely on an Anime called Ikitousen, where all the characters were teenagers who had become what I called "GEM Fighters" in that they had bonded themselves to these small quarter-sized magical gems which functioned as followed: The gems themselves each started out as 10pt Variable Power Pools which the players did not pay for, instead they were given to the players who were 100pt (50+50) teenage martial artists. The GEMs were supposed to be pools of "ki energy" which the characters could draw upon to…

I am planning on doing a write up for "Christine" from the Stephen King novel of the same name. I wanted to ask, in the opinions of the various board members what would be the best approach. Writing up a car and giving it an AI "Brain" or writing up a fully fledged character and giving it disadvantages and limitation to reflect that, in many ways, she's a car.

Hi there, My wife is reading "Cruel Doubt" by Joel McGinniss. For those of you who haven't heard of it, it is the story of a young man who is involved in the murder of his step-father. He was also a Dungeons and Dragons player circa 1988. Of course, the evil demonic influence of D&D is part of what caused him to kill. Anyway, in one part of the book, a Police detective working on the case goes to a book store (this is in 1989) and buys some D & D material, to better "understand" what kind of influences may have been on one of the suspects. According to the book, the detective had his wife read an "adventure" (probably a module, not something in …

Hi, I'm new here but I've been playing Hero since 4th ed in the 90s. I'm alittle rusty, but I remember some of the basics. I just got my 5th ed this year and the first character I what to build is the android Mister Trent from the classic Outer Limits episode Demon With A Glass Hand. Any suggestions? Particularly, any suggestions on stats to give Trent and his glass hand AI? and how much would the whole "if someone removes its three key fingers, Trent suffers amnesia" deal be worth as a Physical Limitation? Thanks

Not specifically Hero related, but I thought I'd toss it out. I'm running a survival horror game in Hero similar to the recent Dawn of the Dead movie. The situations are going to get fairly grim very fast. I want to sometimes break the tension with a little black humor. I wanted to ask did anyone have any suggestions? Something that popped into my mind was that the zombie victims don't have much choice in attire when they get "infected". That could lead to oddly dressed monsters roaming around, like A zombie in brightly colored suspenders and a t-shirt that says "High on Life!" with big smiley face. The PCs disturb a feasting creatures, she looks up, blood and …

A while back I picked up the D20 version of Macho Women WIth Guns. It's pretty good for what it is, but it's still D20. Even worse, D20 Modern. In the extremely unlikely event I found anyone demented enough to play this thing, it's that much less likely I could get them to stick around until 5th level when they're finally eligible to get the cool stuff from Prestige Classes. So you know what that means: HERO System Conversion. This is what I've got so far: BATWINGED BIMBO RACIAL PACKAGE Cost Ability +16 Bat Wings: Flight 12" (24) - Restrainable (-1/2) +10 Horny Devil: HKA…

So, I have been playing with an idea I got from Shadowrun as a way of nudging my PCs in the right direction in games I run. I call this a "priority system" of character development, and basically it runs as follows: Would a "priority" system work for HERO or GURPS? And would it enhance or limit the gameplay and character creation? ie for a WuXia Martial Arts Game in HERO Characters must choose between 5 categories and allocate points accordingly, the base characters are 150pts with 100pts of disadvantages, for a total of 250pts. The categories are: Attributes Martial Arts Techniques/Maneuvers/Powers Skills (general skills, non-combat) Social (P…

Didn't know where to post this, so I'll go here. I've only seen a few episodes, and the stuff at Adultswim.com, and I feel that the setting could make an intersting low-power modern campaign (like I don't have enough to work on ). However, I have a few questions on it that haven't been solved from the few sites I've looked at: 1) I came to the series thinking it was magic, but to me it looks like the powers are psychic (I don't know the reasoning, but mutant-hunter robin sounds a little worse title-wise). So far I haven't seen anything that says otherwise (ie - the genetic "witch factor" (my words) points toward mutation). Is this the case, or is there more …

This is a cross post with He-Man.org http://www.he-man.org/forums/boards/showthread.php?s=&threadid=91082 Okay, A while a go I did the stats for He-Man (If you want look on Surbooks site). I have decided to now do Man at Arms. So what has he done in the series so far? I need a list of feats he has done (From diferent equipment he has used, to defining moments). When I made he man and battlecat I combind elements from all versions of them so this should be the same. Thank you for the help

What sort of house rules and campaign guidelines would work for a "WWE Hero" campaign. That is a game that assumes all the wrestling stuff is totally real, including the "powers". I was thinking the guidelines for a Wild Martial Arts campaign, perhaps?

Has anyone tried a Hero Game set in a recent war? And I mean recent in a pretty liberal sense. I tried a Vietnam Hero game with the guys from my last deployment and while it worked well while it lasted it became increasingly obvious that the distinction between an AK-47 and an M-16 were almost nonexistent. Battles occurred far too rapidly. There is no such thing as a fifteen minute engagement in Hero. By the time you've called for air or artillery support the enemy has overrun your position and the only option is to "pop smoke" on your location and hope for the best. Getting a Quick Reaction Force to your location to relieve pressure is hopeless as well, unless you'r…

Okay, anyone try doing a write up of Lycans and Vampires from Underworld? I've done a generic Lycan and Generic Death Dealer Writeup based upong 75/75 for 4e. I'll post them sometime soon, but after spending all weekend watching it (3 times... GAH!!!) I've noticed the following: Selene has a casual STR of at LEAST 10... so her STR must be 20. She can surivive a drop of 5 Stories, so she must have like... 10" of superleap (though she never uses more than 5" of Superleap anytime in the movie). She also seems to have excellent combat reflexes... which could probably be written up as +5DCV vs all attacks, also Combat Sense thrown in. Viktor has a casual STR of 15 (i…

My group witnessed a surprising turn of events when attempting a Devil May Cry campaign. It was actually good! ...though not true to the game. Characters were 75+75 with melee weapons, and 20th century firearms with very limited ammo. Demonology magic was allowed (and 1 PC opted for it). Future plans included “magic†firearms (so ammo wouldn’t be an issue), and gaining demon-like powers (like the “Devil Triggerâ€). However, when we started, it became a very in depth post apocalyptic campaign. The world we pulled out of our nertherquarters was more vivid and rich than the one I was trying to emulate. The PC’s spent most of their time fighting lowly de…

I'm running a game soon for a single player. His martial artist PC will enter a multi-party kung-fu tournament. In the last round, 8 martial artists are tossed into an arena. Last man standing wins. Question: What is the best way to decide what happens to the NPCs that are not currently fighting the PC. I figure that only one or two of the NPCs will fight the PC to start; the remaining 5-6 NPCs will be fighting each other. But short of actually gaming out fights between NPCs (which would be quite dull for the player), how should I decide which NPCs are still standing (and what their condition is) by the time the PC gets to fight them?

There will be an EN World Gameday held in Oklahoma City on April 17th. This link EN World Gameday contains more information on the day's activities. For the EN World Game’s Day in Oklahoma City I will be running an adventure using the Hero System, 5th Edition. The adventure is entitled “The Night of the Forgotten King.†It is modern-day heroic-level adventure. The players are all members of a very secretive government, and church, sponsored organization known as the Conclave. The Conclave is a black ops group that battles terrorism, international crime and, in this case, suspected paranormal activity. There is room for up to eight players. Background:…

Rapier's "Low-Hero Combat" thread got me thinking about the difference between horror and action-adventure. I'm a big fan of horror, yet the genre of RPGs (largely via Call Of Cthulhu and, I suppose, video games) seems to regard it as an action-adventure affair, in which the heroes tote around machine guns loaded with silver, crossbows loaded with wooden stakes and ubiquitous crates of explosives. I understand that most games tend toward action-adventure, yet when I run horror it's more like the movies, where shooting the monster does little good. Fighting with conventional weapons might gain you a little here and there, but ultimately you can't beat the monsters with bru…
