Enraged and Desolidification
Steve, if a character has desolidifcation, but it is turned off at the moment. He also has an "Enraged in Combat" disad as described on 5E 217. When combat breaks out, he rolls and goes enraged and begins attacking. Can he activate his Desol or would that be considered "defending himself"? Thanks as always.

Follow up: More CSL questions
Follow up to http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1141 Thanks for the quick reply (as always). Greater granularity within the Skill system is one of the things I most look forward to in the Ultimate Skill. In a number of places you ask if I mean the 2-pnt CSL with Punch. The answer is yes, or a 3-pnt CSL with, for example, Punch/Grab/Block. Do any of your answers change with the 3-pnt CSL with Punch/Grab/Block? (I assume not). 4a. If you have a 2-pnt CSL with Long Swords, can you use those levels when attempting a Disarm with a Long Sword? What about a 3-pnt CSL with Swords? 4b. If you have a 2-pnt CSL with your EB, can y…

More CSL questions
First, let me apologize in advance for this long-winded post. I’ve been trying to get my head around all the implications of some of your answers to my questions on 3/3/03 and this statement from the FAQ: Q: If a character performs a Sweep with a Martial Maneuver, do 3-point Combat Skill Levels with Martial Arts apply to the attack? A: No. The character is performing a Sweep, which isn’t a Martial Maneuver, even if it incorporates a Martial Maneuver in this instance. I think I’ve got it, here is my understanding. CSLs with attacks powers (like CSLs with EB), CSLs with weapons (ex. CSLs with Swords) and CSLs with specific attacks (ex. CSLs with…

Follow up: Ranged HA
I was more curious about the "Why?" than the how. What was the thinking behind that? Why is one okay and not the other? No biggie, though. Thanks for answering. James.

Why can't you buy HA ranged?
This is kind of a theory question...according to the FAQ, to buy a throwing knife you could buy HKA, Ranged, and pro-rate the STR to adjust for the advantage. Cool. Why couldn't you do the same thing with a Hand Attack? Pay 5 points per die, not apply the Required -1/2 No Range advantage, apply instead a Ranged advantage +1/2, to create "Throwing Blunt Objects" or the like? Thank you, James.

STR and Autofire
I think I'm reading this right, but I want to make sure: say a char. were to buy "Autofire up to 5 shots" on his 20 STR; a) would he only have to pay END for his Strenghth once because you only have to pay for Strength once in any given phase no matter how many times you use it? b.) would the END cost be 2 END for 20 active points of strength or 3 END for 30 active point of STR plus the Advantage? Thank you, James.

Danger Sense/Accidental Change quetsion
Hi Steve, just a quick question to throw at you for a character idea I have. Can a person have the Danger Sense talent and the Accidental Change disadvantage linked to the Danger Sense? To help here is the character idea: He's a young 18 yr old that has the ability to change to a alternate being of immense power, and at the start of the game he can only change when his danger sense goes off and its out of his control. Of course with EXP he plans on buying this disadvantage off so he learns to control the change, but how would linking this disadvantage to the talent work? On a side note, what do you think of the character idea? This is my first character…

Rapid Find Weakness
Autofire is forbid in the rules, but can Find Weakness be used with the Rapid Sense modifier? Or Rapid Fire or Sweep? Can Penalty Skill Levels reduce the penalty for secondary attempts?

Multiform confusion
I have read and reread multiform, and I am confused. In the desciption, it says to identify which form is you true form... okay, I follow this... It also says that the most expensive form is the one that buys the multiform... I assume (after long thought) that this means regardless of what you declare the trueform. Then we reach the line under optional limitations that says Reversion can be a advantage or a limitation depending on if you are reverting to a weaker form, or not... This is where I become confused. The most expensive form pays for multiform, so shouldn't the disadvantages and advantages be from the perspective of that form? If they are from the per…

Followup to Danger Sense
So (subject to GM interpretation), Danger Sense is generally triggered on the conscious intent of a mind, or on the hazard of something without a mind, depending on how the Danger Sense is structured. Thus, the special effect of an Invisibility to Danger Sense power could be 'self-control of conscious intent'. Is that right?

Starship Question
I noticed that most equipment is a multipower. Would there be anything wrong with using a VPP? For instance making Sick Bay as a VPP to reflect the fact that there is much more than simple Aid that can be done.

Pushed HKA
Hi Steve, When a HKA is pushed, does that count as 'base' damage for the purpose of whether str can be added? For example, a 40 str character with 2D6 HKA normally does 4D6 with str. Does it increase to 5D6+1 after pushing the HKA?

Breakfall
Can Breakfall be used to regain your feet as a 0-Phase action any time you're prone, or only immediately following a fall or being knocked back? Thanks!

Multipowers and drains
When a drain affects a multipower slot, does it work against the active points in the slot, the real cost of the power in the slot, or against the cost of the slot. For example, suppose someone has a multipower with a 60 point reserve and one of the slots was a 12d6 EB that costs x2 endurance, an active cost of 60 and a real cost of 40. It is placed in a fixed slot that costs 4 points. In order to completely drain the power, would it take 60 points, 40 points or 4 points?

Danger Sense Question
If a player character has Danger Sense and someone approaches them who is carrying a concealed firearm - but does not intend to shoot the PC - does the PC's Danger Sense warn them of the firearm?

Grappling Block...
Ok, my Martial Artist just earned himself a new maneuver, Grappling Block. Now, I get that it's not an Abort, so I hold action, Block and then Grab. What I don't understand is if/how my DCs add to the Maneuver. Let's say I've got + 8 DCs. Does that raise his Str with the Grab to +40, or doesn't it have an effect at all? D

Beam/Explosion
Can a character take Beam on a power with either Explosion or AE? If so does the portion of beam that effects what it can damage stay in effect? The issue is an attack that by rights should not be able to be spread or reduced in power, but that should be able to damage buildings and such do to the explosion it makes

HTH Attack
I'm working on a martial artist. He's got a Multipower with various HTH attacks each with different advantages. How would i apply his ability to increase that damage with his str and/or martial arts? I swear i remember reading once, that if a HTH Attack has advantages but your str, doesn't have those advantages, you can increase the damage from the HTH attack, but only up to double it's base DC (similar to an HKA), but i can't find this rule anywhere. Did i read that in 4th ed. UMA? Does it still apply in 5th ed?

Inter-species Telepathy
Are there penalties involved in trying to use Telepathy to communicate with a different spieces, such as an alien or a non-sentient animal? Does the penalty get worse the more alien the mind is? And can a really alien race take an EGO-based damage shield that harms minds that attempt to establish telepathic contact with it?

Language and Mind Link
The description of Telepathy says that language is not a barrier to telepathic communication. Does this also apply to Mind Link? Thanks!

PSLs with Sweep
Can a character buy PSLs with Sweep to counteract the -2 OCV penalty for each attack, like they can purchase PSLs with Block or Missile Deflection to counteract the OCV penalties for the 2nd and subsequent Block/Deflection. Or is the -2 OCV per attack considered an intrinsic "OCV penalty associated with a Combat Maneuver" for which PSLs don't apply (per the Skills FAQ). Or is the answer somewhere in between? PSLs can't be used for the initial two attacks in a Sweep, but could be purchased to counteract the additional OCV penalties entailed by the third and subsequent attacks.

CSLs with Strike
The Skills FAQ contains this statement: A 3-point CSL with three Maneuvers would apply to any use of those Maneuvers (armed or unarmed). Does that mean a CSL with say Strike, Block and Grab would apply to ANY strike? This would include a punch, a sword slash, throwing a shuriken, shooting a bow and firing a gun. And the same would apply to 2-pnt CSLs with 'Strikes'?
