In my game, one of my players is a magical construct that possesses Shape-Shift, with the Special Effect as a Magical Illusion build--as it is against Sight, Hearing, Mental, etc., worth 31AP. I had a scenario where an oppositional NPC possesses a Pendant that provided 15Points of Arcane Defense. Is there any means of either nullification or reduction against the AP used for the NPC trying to do a perception roll against in this scenario? In other words, does the 15Points of Arcane Defense give any resistance vs the effectiveness for the Player's Shape Shift as built? (Example: Does this give some "bonus" against the NPC's perception to see the true ident…

I'm playing around with some ideas for an improvised magic system, but I'm having a hard time expressing what I want to do in the rules. I want a mage to be able to make a Magic roll and cast a spell on the spot, which seems like a VPP. The problem is that a VPP has you make a skill roll and then gives you the power permanently until you want to change it again. It also doesn't cast the spell with the same action, which I would like my mages to be able to do. I can resolve the first problem with a Limitation saying the VPP can only be changed at the moment the spell is cast, but what would be the best way to combine the two actions? Can you Link a power create…

Did I break the law? Is HERO and ALL other RPG games suddenly obsolete??? Is this a good thing or a bad thing??? HERO SYSTEM custom character creation for a game with 8 players, each controlling a complex superhero ranging from 475 - 750 Active Points in a complex near-future world with all the trimmings can become a HUGE workload. So I tried to cut down on my workload and turned to AI for help. I used a fairly simple prompt and ChatGPT is instantly spitting out wonderful characters for my game! Of course I did NOT download the books! I wouldn't know how to, or even if you can. All I provided was what you see below; the very basics of character creation in 6th E…

This is a Naked Advantage concept I'm working on. The idea is that if the character misses with their attack, they have a second chance to try and strike. Second Chance Strike: Naked Advantage: Trigger (Activating the Trigger requires a Zero Phase Action, Trigger requires a Zero Phase Action to reset; +1/2) for up to 45 Active Points (22 Active Points) So far, I just have the Naked Advantage construct itself, but I'm not sure what sort of Limitations to apply to it, or if there are other modifiers I might need. It can't be used to do a second attack after hitting, so it's only usable if the initial attack fails.

Let's say we have a character named Hot Lead, who is a gun collector. Hot Lead acquired the dueling pistols used by Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr, and took them on night patrol. The pistols are built as 1d6 RKA Quantity: 2. 1) Is this considered one power or two powers due to the quantity? Later that evening, Hot Lead confronts Foxbat (because, which villain would find it more exciting to be shot at by the pair of historical relics than Foxbat?) and draws the pistols (one in the left hand and one in the right). 2) When firing at one target, is this considered a Combined Attack or a Multiple Attack? Champions Complete …

FrankenHero: 6th Edition with 5th Edition Characteristics. Has anyone tried this? How well did it work out? Were you able to tweak Hero Designer for this? Thanks!

A while back, I worked up an article index for the Chaosium Pendragon game. This isn't to index all relevant material that has ever shown up online; that would be a monumental and fruitless task. It was mainly to index articles in old print and PDF periodicals, which aren't always well-documented in RPGGeek. After I completed it, it occurred to me that Champions/Hero System also has not-that-many articles that have ever shown up in magazines -- there were a huge number of online resources from the very beginning (starting with and including the Red October BBS), and so I guess a lot of people were looking there for their resources. Still, there are more than Pendragon, an…

Just kidding with the title, but this is about Transfer. First off, I understand the reasoning behind dropping it as a power: its not flexible enough. What if you want the points you gain to fade at a rate differently than the points drained off the target fade? What if you want to give yourself several powers but only drain one? There are a lot of possibilities, which without extreme complication, Transfer doesn't handle well as a simple power. However, that said, there's nothing wrong with having it in the rules that Transfer works as it always has, and if you want a more flexible build, here's how you do it (Drain plus Aid, etc). This would …

I have a player in my game that has Mind Control over machines - Primarily Droids and what not. Mind Control is typically an attack vs EGO, but as it is a Robot, the target only has INT, not EGO. In this case, do I simply substitute INT for EGO? (I can't seem to find the ruling in Player Guides 6E1/6E2, APG I/II)

Okay, here's the premise. A supernatural creature has the nasty ability of coming back from the dead, hale, whole, and hearty, provided it is hit a second time after being "killed." Actually, it may be that if you fail to kill the creature in a single blow, your next one will heal it up completely. Either way, there's no easy way to kill it in hand-to-hand combat. Here is my initial build, but I'm not happy. I was thinking of Healing BODY with a Trigger, but how does one reset the Trigger? (I was also thinking of using Steve's self-resetting triggers from a back issue of Digital Hero). Any suggestions? 85 Return To Life: Healing 16d6 (Regeneration, 16 BOD…

Has anyone found anything comparable to Find Weakness and Lack of Weakness from 5th Edition using the "normal" rules of 6th Edition (and not APG rules)? I can see where one 6th Edition Limitation/Advantage/Power replaces "lost" Powers/Limitation/Advantages from 5th Edition. But what, in your opinion would replace Find Weakness and/or Lack of Weakness.

This is long. Sorry. It’s written from the perspective of a Champions type game, but I think the issues have broad applicability, whatever the genre. I think it would be useful to have more discussion of the thinking behind game mechanics so we’re aware of the issues they can present and how we can use them to heighten playability. I’ve never really been a fan of the Killing Attack mechanic in Hero, even after the 6e changes, but maybe I need to re-evaluate my position. I decided to run identical characters against each other, but one using a normal attack and one using an equivalent DC KA. The results were interesting. I’ll get to them later. …

If someone was exceptionally fast in water, say 40m, and they swam straight up at maximum speed, how far would they go up after breaching upward out of the water?

I am looking to build a necromancer and want to create the ability to speak with dead. My first though was to use clairvoyance but that does not really work that well. The other way I am considering building it is to use transdimensional telepathy. I only want to be able to talk with the dead person so I probably only need to get surface thoughts. The communication only limitation looks like it would also fit this. I have bought a detect soul ability that has the perceive in a single dimension adder to allow me to see dead souls. What do you think of using telepathy to speak with the dead.

How would one build the ability to cut through a tree in a single blow? Is it just having enough damage dice, or would it involve an advantage like Armor Piercing? I was watching Blue Eye Samurai, and there are scenes where Mizu slices through a thick tree trunk (and others where bisecting armored humans happens). Is this just a matter of having a lot of damage dice, or is something else going on?

How much Strength would it take to knock a rooted tree over? I don't mean a young tree; just your average tree you see outside your window or in a forest.

Just wanted to think as to how players feel about the complexity of Hero Games. I personally like the extra items that you can do with Hero Games and feel it's combat system is one of the best out there. But could character creation be getting up a bit to far? What do you all think?

Basis for an information gathering specialist. HRRH, with discriminatory and analyze...I don't figure there'd be much argument about how well he could process the signal. Oh, and a great Cryptography roll, to break secure transmissions. But there's a lot of radio traffic out there, so if he wants to find a specific transmitter....... Sounds like Mind Scan, for the Radio class of "minds"? Make sense to folks? The Machine class is too broad, he can't read a computer. A radio typically has no EGO...for purposes of finding here, I'm thinking --the MDCV base would be 3; unfamiliar minds, and number of minds, apply. --for determining …

So as part of me filling out my world. I have been building magic items so far it has been streight forward untill this conundrum came up. How would you build a sack that looks completely normal on the outside as a sack but when you open it a ladder appears in the mouth to which you can climb down into a 8m x 8m room. This room can be used for storage or whatever. It is considered to be on another plane of existence rather than just shrinking. In which you can come and go freely unless someone outside has closed the bag shut. Which would be anything from simply closed shut with a hand or turned upside down. You can breathe normally here and the weather is cons…

How would you build a surface or an object that Clinging doesn’t work on? Some sort of drain on clinging built as a damage shield? Perhaps a Change Environment construct?

So I have been trying to create a spell that does an AOE that heals allies while at the same time knocks back undead. So far this is what I have got: Healing 3d6 AOE 4m Radius (Selective), Does Knockback Incantations, Gestures (Both hands), Requires Divine roll (-11), Knockback only works against undead and Demons Is this correct? The heal doesn't have to do damage to the unded, just knock them back. If I selectively heal allies in the radius does that mean the undead are not effected by the heal so therefore are not knocked back?

Howdy HEROdom! I've been looking more into HAPs for my upcoming campaign, and kind of dig the rules in the APG where Luck adds to the HAP roll. That said, how would Unluck work in the same respects? Would this subtract from the initial roll? Get roll by the GM to use against the player with the Complication?
