I figured this would be the place to ask. I Love the Hero System. I hate looking at a pile of monopoly dice. Once, at a hobby shop, a few years back, I saw a type of die that I thought was very cool. They had them in all different sizes (ie d20, d12, d10, d8, d6, etc.) but, they weren't shaped like traditional dice. Instead, they were shaped like long crystals, of a sort that, if you were to spin them, they would almost look like "rupies" from the Legend of Zelda. I would like to pick up a bunch of d6s in this style for my upcoming Champions game. Does anyone know who makes these?

I played my first game of Hero (Champions) yesterday. I really enjoyed it, but one thing irked me - after you attack, you can't move. Coming from D&D, I am used to the "half move and attack or full move" restriction, and I think it makes a lot of sense... but why oh why can't you attack then move in Hero? It seems to really restrict the player's option for tactics. In my game yesterday, they were plenty of times when I would have attacked then moved behind cover or something similar, but that option just doesn't exist. Is there a reason for this? Do you think there would be a big problem with allowing attack then move? -Nate

I'm thinking of running a session of Fantasy Hero at a local con in a few months. I am planning on running for 6 players and am going to use pre-generated characters. Most of my Hero system gaming has been with people very familiar with the system. Anyone have any tips on introducing newbies fairly painlessly?

I'm trying to build something similar to the GL power ring/ lantern battery effect. It would seem to me that the HS5E solution to this would be that the power ring (or soul gem in this case) has an Endurance Reserve with the limitation only recovers when in contact with lantern battery. Any suggestions on the lantern battery half of the equation? Is it just a big Endurance Reserve that automatically grants END to the ring or does it need a mechanism to do so . . . say for example Aid with all the appropriate bells and whistles added? My version of the battery would actually be a function of a base's AI, so it is a little higher end than GL's EverReady.

Is there a delicate way of voicing one's opinion to the GM about how concept boundaries are handled? My GM sets the stage and then lets the players build whatever they want, and even he is often frustrated with the results. I'm in a medieval fantasy game where the brick has a 70STR, and a 32DEX (in a game with starting DEX max of 30). No particular rationale for it to be that high, just that the player had all these points left over from making a simple brick. Sort of leaves us martial artists with egg on our faces... What the GM did eventually was impose a 2RP per 1AP cost on STR. But that only solves one isolated problem. My preference is to play a heavie…

I cant, for the life of me, remember all of the "classes" of characters for the Hero System. I remember Brick, Mentalist, and Martial Artist, but I know that there are way more types of characters for the game. I know they arent classes, but more like niches for characters to fill, created to let you know which types of powers you need to fill to have a well-rounded superheroic team or adventuring party. Does anyone remember the offical niches/classes? Brick... Mentalist... Martial Artist... and... uh...um... ARGH! -=Grim=-

I posted this in the Champions Board but thought I'd ask here too. How would you build a web power that is more like a spider's web than Spider-Man's webs. Trigger? Time Delay? I went with 5d6 entangle, personal immunity, trigger, sticky, cumulative, and area of effect (hex). I was thinking about maybe invisible too, like the silk is too fine to see so you walk right into it.

As always, one of those "I don't have my book handy" questions... Are fewer dice rolled on knockback if the individual is knocked unconscious by the initial blow? I think this was an arbitrary ruling by a long ago GM in a game I played, but I wanted to verify (because I've never implemented it in my games). Example: Mr. Fist hits The Human Target with a Martial blow of some kind, doing 12 BODY. He'd normally roll 3d6 (2D6 base, +1D6 for it being a Martial Manuever) and subtract it from the 12. But on the blow The Human Target is rendered unconscious before the KB is even applied. He therefore is an unresisting target. Is there a subtraction of 1D6 from the…

A while back, I stumbled across a website that had several of the Warhammer 40K weapons listed in the Inquisitor game converted over to the HERO system. I'm considering trying to do a homebrew 40K RPG using HERO and unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate the website again. Does anyone here know of any websites that have done HERO conversion of the 40k Universe ? Thanks!

Now here is a quandary. I am creating a character as an NPC for a friend of mine, and I don't know how to set up her powers. Pretty much she is a seer, with no control over her powers. She blanks out to prophesize at the GMs discression, however, she consciously has no conception of the passed time. Furthermore she is incapable of understanding her own prophesies, even if they are as obvious as "You are going to die next tuesday". Now, how on earth do I set up something like this?

Howdy, folx! Just wanted to let the Digital Hero playtesters know that THE HERO SYSTEM VEHICLE SOURCEBOOK manuscript is available for playtesting/testreading in the usual area. If you have any questions/comments, please post them in the Company Questions thread of the same name.

If you want to avoid the penalties from the Move-By & Move-Through maneuvers, why not just make a martial art with the appropriate maneuvers?

Well, today I ran into something that I've never thought about before...I was making up a sailor and wanted to have him know both semophore and Morse code.....Hmmm is this a language skill or a KS? Expanding on the thought, if I know russian the default is that I am literate and can write in cyrillic script, even if I write in english I can use cyrillic...that seems to be a no point flavor/realism thing, but what about just knowing an alphabet like elvish? Should Hurricane O'Reily have KS:Morse and KS: Semophore or do I buy expanded literacy for english? I think this also includes codes and cyphers...something I've always purchased as KS's in the past. Thank you for any i…

Heres one I cant answer for myself: How would one simulate staking a Vampire? I know it would be a called shot, and Id make the target small of course, so Id use the OCV penalty for striking a hand. But what would the mechanic be for: "stake through heart equals torpored, like in Vampire the Masq.? Would it be like a zero range entangle linked to a massive h-t-h attack OAF? Im totally stumped on this one. -=Grim=-

I have a Vampire Package for my game, and I couldnt find a good way to simulate the fact that an undead creature doesnt get STUNned, so I gave them the Takes no Stun ability that Automatons get. Is this wrong? Is there a better way to do it, or is it sometimes OK to give a PC Package an ability normally not open to them? -=Grim=-

Inspired by the post 'Powers' Activation Time' thread: I would really like to see HG produce a Quick Ref booklet of very common charts. I did my own photocopy version and then lost it. I'd like to see: STR chart throwing chart combat maneuvers chart (all of them in one place!) roll modifiers chart (per as well as pre) mind control 1,2,3 list materials def/bod chart attack modifier formula reverse modifier formula (for the players, so they don't know the villain's CVs) a dozen others that I'll add as I go. Anyone else? Am I behind the times? Does this already exist as a HG product?

I want to try and make a character with a bloody huge leaping score, who is able to double-jump. She's a martial artist/fire elemental (lots of energy HA's/HKA's). In addition to this, she's very agile. One of her abilities is the power to jump really high, and then her next phase (before she lands), she jumps again. So far, the best way I can think of this is as follows: She has a vertical leap of 30", and a SPD 4. Double Jump: Flying 30"(60pts). 60 Active Points. Linked to Leaping (-1/2). Only usable once per Leap (-1/2). Requires Acrobatics and Fire Tricks skill rolls (-3/4). 22 Total Points. Comments? Suggestions? Thanks for any input.

Recently, I posted the questions below on the 5e questions section, but didn't really get an answer from Steve. I've also scoured the FAQ, searching under the relevant page #s, the term "activating", etc. to no avail. So any help on the questions below would be appreciated: On p. 71-72 of 5E, it says all powers are 0 phase unless they say otherwise, but very few powers say anything about taking time to activate/use in their description (e.g., Duplication says 1/2 phase, Force Wall says 1/2 phase to change wall shape). It takes an 1/2 phase to attack someone with a power, so that presumably covers attack powers. Also, it takes a 1/2 phase to move, so that presumably…

I'm using Hero Designer v2. I've got Shapeshifting with the Costs END Only to Change Advantage. On that I place x2 Increased END cost Limitation. Easy enough right? I do not want the hero to shift back to his normal state if he falls unconscious. According to HDv2 (and the rules), I cannot buy Persistent unless I buy the power to 0 END first. HDv2 does not allow me to buy that Advantage because I've purchased the Increased END Limitation. What to do, what to do? (In my opinion the Costs END Only to Change Advantage should also allow the Persistent Advantage for non-attack powers. Its the same as buying the non-attack power to 0 END; you're not lay…

I've found the most excellent way of keeping a running tally of END and STUN during the game -- an abacus. I found this little toy abacus for a couple of bucks at a local educational toy store; it's about the size of a pocket notebook (A6) and has six rows of beads, enough to keep track of up to 999 END and 999 STUN (or 999,999 of either). It saves me a lot of erasing; I just have to make sure that my current totals are noted on my character sheet at the end of the session. Yay for ancient technology

I've got a puzze for you, good folks! I was concidering the judicial system in my fantasy campaign, and was musing over torturers/executioners when I remembered a thing from Feist's and Wurtz's Daughter of the Empire series. There there was a couple of drugs that, first, made it impossible for the taker to pass out, and second, intensified all sensations (especially pain). Very, very nasty, and very useful to a torturer . . . Now, how could this be built? Any takers?
