Mark's Astounding CyberEmpire O' Doom! This gentleman (whom I have yet to contact) has an interesting alternate SPD system that my GM is considering testing for adoption: SPD and actions In a nutshell: roll a D10 (or so) on a 5, SPD 5 and up characters have an action on a 1, SPD 1+ characters go (everyone) etc. Of note, - this system - randomizes not only *when* everyone gets to go in relation to each other, it also adds an element of variance to the *number of times* everyone goes. - can be made to cut back on "free" phases, thus I believe it could penalize high-SPD characters who stand to lose phases in which they could use held action…

ok, this is the first character i've dabbled with (other then a celestial). This guy has no skills tacked on as of yet, but what i need to know is whether i did the math correct and did i do the powers correct. another thing. When getting armor (Brigandine in this case) is the Defense rating equal to bothe PD and ED or just PD? I used the Heroic rules (ie. don't buy armor and weapons, unless special in some way, with character points). ok so here it is. STR 18 (8) DEX 15 (15) CON 15 (10) BOD 15 (10) INT 12 (2) EGO 13 (6) PRE 16 (6) COM 12 (1) (may be reptilian, though the sketch i did used scales more as a lady uses make-up to beautify then mortify…

Hi there. I guess the subject have allready been disscued herr, but last time I checked, the results wasn't rellay "officialy unofficial) ;o) So, is ther any way to compute an automaton EGO value in order to resist "Cyberkinesis"? BTW is ther an "official" Cyberkinesis power and the most important: it's limits? (Tech levl of the target, level of autotised functions necessary to be controled, how about Nano-Swarms, etc...) Thank you for your time. Have fun. BadNews.

If I am building critters and I have two competing creatures would it be possible to have them as hunted/hunters for each other? ie if there are superior steeds (Ember Steeds) and natural competitors (Blood Stags) then would it be worth it to make them hunted by each other? what about animal world rivalries for living space and ecology niches?

Hi Great HeroDom Iv'e got a NPC with the following abilities : The NPC is a assassin cyborg (how original !) with a partially electronic memory. He's part of a murder organisation (a bit like I.C.E. in 4ed Dark Champions). Each time the NPC is assigned to a mission, he follows this path : 1 - execute the mission (which is more or less easy to do) 2 - upload his memories of the mission to a central server for verification (and give a proof to the customer). 3 - Erase his memories (electronic and organic) of the event through nanotech so it will be impossible for anyone to probe his mind/memories or confront him with a lie detector. 4 - The NPC will eventuall…

Okay, fellow Herophiles, I'm asking for help on this one... I've spent quite a while converting the characters from the "classic" (pre-Reboot) Legion of Super-Heroes into Champions form. I've managed all of them to my satisfaction except for Star Boy and Light Lass. For the uninitiate, Star Boy induces mass from the stars into another object/person. In essence this tends to make things too heavy to move (unless you're a Kryptonian or Daxamite) and can make things like walls, buildings, and bridges buckle and collapse under their own weight. Light Lass does nearly the opposite...reducing the weight of an object or person (I'm assuming they mean de-gravitating t…

Hello, I am kind of new to the game and have a few questions. I apologies if I missed the answers to these question in the book (its kind of BIG!), or on other threads. 1-Is stun form killing attacks figured before or after resistant defense is subtracted from the total Body? 2-If a character take a half action to attack before he does any thing else the 2nd half action is lost? 3-Can a character declare he is saving is last half action to dodge or parry (or other defensive action) and then attack with his 1st half action. I am sure I’ll have more question later. Thanks

Wow. I was about to post up a bunch of questions, and just before I did so I took a quick look at the FAQ. They are really good! Is there an updated version of the PDF available? Here are two questions that I still have though. The first is really only a clarification, the second is more of a question: 1) So a focus can always be rebuilt given time/materials, and it doesn't cost character points. Meanwhile an Independent focus can't be rebuilt unless character points are spent once again. Does this mean that if a suit of armor is built in a superhero game using OAF, and it gets stolen, that the character can just build another one? If it gets stolen by …

LTE

Is there a point value for LTE? I was wondering because I was wondering if you could Heal or Aid your LTE. It's not really a separate stat. Draining it is easy just buy Drain END with 5 hr recovery time. but aiding it? or Healing the loss (say through a spell). just how would you do that?

I'm going through the mind-boggling process of figuring out who pays for what and how it is charged? Say for example, I have a Tony Stark-esque character on my team. He is the CEO and primary stock holder of a major techno corporation with deep pockets, and the Hero team has almost unlimited access to corporation resources. The team has an independent headquarters on the grounds of one of the larger corporate installations, and several members have their own sanctum sanctorum elsewhere. I would assume that each member pays for their own private base, and that each would pay a portion of the cost of the team HQ, but . . . Do I handle the team member's a…

I’m creating a character who has a 75 point MPP with special effects that I’m envisioning as being a little like a very limited shapeshift, for instance growing claws or toughening skin (and no he doesn’t possess the Shapechange power). One of the limitations I would like is for his MPP to be a little harder to change than normal. I’m looking at making it take him a half phase action to change slots. My thought is that this should be worth about -1/4 if it is a non-attack action and -1/2 if it is a half phase attack action. Thoughts?

Anybody got a good link to where I can find some mass combat rules? Or info on a book I can pick up? They seem to have pulled it out of Fifth Edition. Would appreciate any help. Thanks

I've read various books where a character had the ability to unleash some massive disaster if they were killed. In the book Snow Crash, there was an extemely badass guy called Raven who had an A-bomb as a sidecar on his motorcycle. It was triggered by radio to go off if his heart stopped. There was another book I read where you would get horribly cursed if you killed someone with royal blood. I think that was based on what some slavic countries used to believe. Do you think it's ever worth buying a power like this? How would you construct a power like this? Has anyone already used something like this in a game? I thought of two ways this could be done. On…

How can I be sure that I really grok combat?

Okay, I've run a lot of White Wolf, and eventually I realized that most of the cool things in White Wolf look like they were blatantly stolen from Hero, so now I want to run Hero. I am not experienced in Hero. My players are not either. How do I know if I'm teaching it correctly? I would love some solved problems in combat, where a team of heroes squares off against a team of bad guys, with every point cost and roll of the dice given in detail. Does such a document exist? If not, I could generate such a document by constructing simple heroes, working out a combat, and posting it to the forums. Would such a post be insufferably boring and in poor…

I want outside opinions on Martial Throws, I was thinking about them the other day and I thought to myself that the martial throw maneuver as listed isn't quite right. The theory behind defensive throws in such arts as Akido and Judo is that you're using your opponent's strength and energy against them when you throw. Something that I have never felt the Martial Throw as listed reflected well. It reflects it when someone runs at you (+v/5) but doesn't seem to reflect the idea that your opponent's strength is being used against them very well. One option I thought of to solve this apparent problem is to say that when a throw is used defensively (when someone ta…

Granted, we now have "The 5th ED. book", "The Green Man Book", the new rule book, ok, ok "FRED" not to sure about that one. I am in the process of changing all, yes ALL!! my characters from 4th to 5th ED rules so I can play with other groups, both face to face and maybe by PbEM. I see some poblems, not with the rules persay, I am learning them as I go and am trying to fit characters to rules. But with Hunteds, case 1.) change in the VIPER role call, have read about specificaly no VF-2, have not gotten the VIPER suppliment as of yet, am working on that as well. case 2.) GENOCIDE!!!, I have several mutant characters, and they are hunted by GENOCIDE, are they now to…

This is a cross-post from LOH and Conventions topics so I'll keep it brief. I'm trying to organize a reasonably continuos presence of HERO games in the Open Gaming area for Dundracon. if you are running a scheduled game but would be willing to run it again in Open Gaming OR if you'd just like to run under the LOH/Hero banner in Open Gaming PLEASE post to one of those two threads. Thanks Da Cat

Hi all, I need help with a character who's going through a major reconstruction. I'm running a standard Champions campaign (200+150 points). One of the characters (Bjorn) is a wimpy human with a powerful beast-form (Fenrir). The two forms have different personalities and have a Banner-Hulk kind of relationship. This has been built as a Multiform into a 400-points form. Bjorn is a 150 points character. Yes, he didn't spend most of his points. I can hear what you're thinking - no, the player is not abusing this power. He spends most of his time in his human form and he's very loathe to transform. Most of the time he enters combat in human form and turns to be…

Immune to humor

Player: (giggling) "I cast a gender changing spell on Martok!" (rolls Transform dice after the GM checks the VPP arrangement) Player2 (joining in the giggling) "Yeah, and I teleport a tutu onto him" Martok: (immune) "Go bother someone else" How would you build the stern character, assuming this sort of thing comes up in your game, who is resistant to silliness? I'm speaking of the traditional "silent but deadly monk vampire" sort of thing, the kind of character who would be written out of the scene by any compotent writer who wanted to create comic relief. But, since games with humorous characters are not usualy blessed with this sort of coordination, c…

Okay, I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I can't find it. I am looking to buy a transporter in the style of the old JLA satellite. I've run into a real issue in the megascale realm (as you can imagine). Here is how I have it constructed right now: 63 5" Teleportation (1 Km - 5000000 Km) Mass (Self + 0 Kg) Fixed Locations (0): +0 Floating Locations (0): +0 No Relative Velocity: +10 Safe Blind Teleport: +¼ Ranged: +½ No Range Modifier: +½ Megascale (Range) (1000000 Km): +2 Scale Down Megascale: +¼ Indirect (Any Location & Fires Away): +½ Usable As Attack (1 Targets/100 Kg Mass): +1 Reduced Endurance (Zero Endurance): +½ …

I have a question. Me and my posse are playing the 4th edition rules. Granted, I changed SOME of the things to its 5th edition rule counterpart, like the cost of eiditic memory. But Im wondering how drastically different 5th edition is. Since I have a decent ammount of 4th edition Hero suppliments, it would have to be completely worth it for me to switch to 5th edition. The reason I ask is because not every new edition is better (like D&D 3e IMHO), but sometimes its WAAAAY better (like Talislanta 5th edition). So... should I grab me 5th edition because its superior in every which way to 4th edition, or is it just different, or only slightly better (and thus…

My character, Thomas Temple, has a "matter sense", right now bought as Detect Matter with various enhancements and such. I want to expand this to let him directly analyze DNA samples with his powers, but rather than buying outrageous levels of Magnification, I thought it might be more appropriate to take a separate power, Detect DNA with Analyze, RSR SCI: Genetics or somesuch. Does this power also require Magnification, or is the fact that it can't operate at larger scales good enough?

As I'm slowly getting my campaign together in terms of an actual storyline one thing I've realized that I would like to have in the groups base is a training robot. I would like for the robot to be able to mimic the powers of past foes so that the group can work on their tactics, etc. versus their enemies. I have two different thoughts on how I might build this and want to see what you guys think as well. 1. VPP - Basically give the robot a decent sized VPP that takes a long time to change (e.g. being reprogrammed) so that each robot could mimic certain powers of certain villians or even a mixture of powers. 2. Multiform - Each robot is pre-programmed wi…

I was working with a player last night and we found the non-selective targeting in an explosion fit his concept quite well. However in reading the rules on it we discovered something I thought was rather silly. Range modifiers apply not only on placing the explosion but also on each target. This doesn't make sense. If I am standing next to a grenade and it goes off I am just as likely to be hit by the fragments of it as I would be if someone tossed it at me and successfully hit my hex from 10 hexes away. The way the rule is written the grenade would be much less effective if thrown. As GM I have opted to not apply those range mods on the Non-selective roll as in…
