Damage Shield Abuse 1 2 3

Over in another thread we have been talking about the big arguments, one that comes up over and over again is Damage Shield being over priced (I think everyone agrees with this, or at least the VAST majority) Now on to the "Why" questions Why was it changed (And yes it was changed), what abuses did people see in the old system (+1/2). Second Question, I have heard MANY people say that there house rule is to make it a flat +1, my question is "Do you feel that it is actualy equal to a NND attack, and if so why?"

I posted this on the Rules Question board before I read the part about how only Mr. Long could answer those. Oops. Therefore, I'm going to post here, in the hopes of getting thoughts from more people. I’m relatively new to non-Fusion Champions. I was reading the 5th Edition book, I ran into something that sparked a question. I was hoping that some of you veterans who own everything Hero could answer it. After reading the 5th edition book’s definition of Indirect, it’s clear that it does not work for creating tube artillery and similar attacks. An artillery shell arcs over top of a wall, missing it entirely. Therefore, it doesn’t matt…

this is my first time posting (atleast i think it is, i only just made this account) and for a good reason. All you out there are Hero's fans. I hope all of you also have experience withit (i prefere to not assume, but if you look above i did with the fan bit). So, i have been playing these things (RPGs that is) for 14 years now, over half my life, great that. And have become dis-enchanted with Palladium's clunky system, FASA's (though FASA is no gone, leaving a Wizkid in their place) odd sense of RPing (no offense to be taken, just my opinion) and the current incarnation of D&D (and then tyhere are those dark days of White Wolf and so many others it drives me craz…

Havin' trouble with an idea, here. I'm goin' with a pheromone/charisma type character, and I want him to be harder to hit, and I want the attacker to maybe not hit as hard, all because "it just doesn't seem right". Extra DCV and Damage Reduction seem the order of the day, but I'm not sure how to simulate the fact that it's based on whether the attacker can overcome the urge to NOT hit the character, or NOT hit them as hard. Between having a cold and not having the book I'm comin' up with NOTHIN'. Help, obvious or otherwise, would be appreciated.

I was just flipping through the skill pages. And paused to look at "High Society". How do you guy's handle this? It looks like an amalgam of several other Knowlege and Proffesion skills. It mentions, for example, knowledge of who's who among the aristocracy, as well as their sundry relations with each other. Um, shouldn't that be "People knowledge: Members of the Aristocracy"? If High society can cover things like that, what other proffesion skills could it include? Winetasting? Familiarity with the High Arts? Ballroom Dance? Polo? Roulette? Carried to an extreme, Fencing and Pistol Dueling?

I'm a mean GM, apparently, for disallowing a PC to have an Entangle that uses non-STR CHA to get out of (ie: Entangle vs INT). Has anyone actually allowed this?

Compared to GURPS the fifth edition of the HERO System is quite new on the arena. The HERO system has done a really good job in trying to catch up, but doing all the books I want for my campaigns takes time, and I hate to wait, so I some questions for you. How easy is it to use GURPS material in the HERO System? The inspirational material should work just as good, so there isn’t much need talking about that, but the rest? Do I need the GURPS Basic Set to convert the world books to HERO, or is it just as easy to use the books without the Basic Set? Can you recommend some interesting GURPS book that cover stuff that isn’t covered by existing HERO books? …

Okay, I have a question for you HEROphiles out there, any advice will be appreciated! As those who read the NGD and General Roleplaying boards should be aware, HERO system is pretty new to me! I sat my players down tonight after our regular session and had them vote on what they would like me to run for the "next big campaign", from three different campaign ideas. "Robot HERO" was the result. The concept, essentially, is a high-tech post apocalyptic sci-fi universe. The game is set shortly after a massive war which has devastated many worlds as well as much of the structure of interstellar society itself. Many of the ground battles were fought by powerful artifi…

I could almost swear that I've seen this written or discussed somewhere, but I've searched thru the FAQs, thru several of my Hero books, and the forums themselves. If what I'm speaking of is there, I missed it, likely because I was searching too hard. What am I speaking of? I vaguely remember someone writing up a 'tar baby' power, wherein when Hero A Hits Villain B (who has this Tar Baby power), Hero A's fist is now stuck to Villain B. The question is: how does one write up this power? Start with Grab? Start with Entangle? Sticky? No range? Trigger? Has anyone seen this, or did I just have a dream about it?

I am going to be working on a project, Simply put a summary of all the rules that have been Added sense 5th edition came out. Now I call on the masses of Hero Assembled to help me compile the different rules, so if you could please tell me what books have what new rules. Example: Star Hero provides additional adder "Mobile Perception Point" to the Clairsentience power I am not looking for a description of the additional rules, while page numbers would be nice. I am also not looking for things that are campeign rules or guidelines (IE Allowing martial artists to double there leaping) Any help would be appreciated, when I am done I will submit…

360 Degree Sense Combat Bonuses? Specifically 360 Degree Vision, but I would assume any sense would be the same. A char with this power would obviously be very difficult to surprise. But beyond that what direct influences does this power have in combat. I was thinking that no opponent could ever be considered “Behind†a Char with this power, thus the ½ DCV from behind would not apply to this char. However all other combat bonuses and penalties would be standard? Input? Much Thanks

I'm trying to build out a martial artist/bodyguard. Is there a way to raise perception rolls specifically against standard assasination type attacks? Oh, and this is a 75/75 campain. Thanks in advance.

What would be the best way to simulate the villian of the old 60's splater movie The Wizard Of Gore's powers? Especaly the "I invite a 'volentear' up from the audeance, kill her, then reserect her...then after an hour, she falls apart again" power. I would say a Killing Attack, Range, with the Time Delay advantage, and say the gore is a special effect, but he can use any hard, sharp object to do his 'magic tricks'? I beleve this should be an OIF, but should it also give him an Varable Advantage on it? If so, how much? And, how much d6 in Killing Attack - Range does it take to kill a normal istantly anyways?

Okei, i want to use Hero System as "Ultimate Gamer's Toolkit" for my D&D3 campaign(s) i means: to build new strange magic items, D&D is "a little" limitated, so i want try to build using Hero System: 1) converting some existing magic items in Hero System 2) modifyng or rebuilding magic items with hero 3) re-converting in D&D3 rules for examples: pick a "+3 magic longsword", and converting to Hero System. For longsword conversion/cost i use Fantasy Hero stats; for every "pips" i bet some CSL (1 CSL +1 OCV, 5 points, only to OCV (-½) plus 2 CSL +1 DC, 10 points, only to DC (-½)) Same cost for "flaming", "shocking" and likes ability (i…

I just read the Hero policies on internet usage and I wanted to applaud Hero's stance. It is a very nice balance between protecting the money-maker and letting the fans talk about and share thier favorite hero home brews. I'm mentioning this because Wizkids just posted their internet fan site rules and they are a far far cry from the ones here that support and nurture the fan base. It seems that you guys always manage to do the right thing. (Unabashed fan boy moment) God I love Hero!!!

I have noticed that many complaints about abuse seem to stem from the use of a high number of advantages on low based powers. I would not pretend to say that I am not guilty of it either. [comment] I made a couple of characters with the monikers Nightmare and Bloodbath(using variants of AF, pen, AoF(hex)characteristic drains) to challenge a friend of mine who thought his character and his allies were unstoppable. It came down to his main guy couldn't be touched but his 3 friends were made into insane quivering masses of jello(and not the good kind)... them's the good old days [/comment] Since then I have recovered and found out that one could indeed have…

GURPS has an optional rule for telekinetics whereby they can reach inside a living target and damage internal organs (or rip wires in robots, etc). This is a cool, very in-genre for psionics, but VERY potent effect. Here is my take on it for HERO: 1d RKA. BOECV: +1 AVLD: +1 1/2 (vs. Mental Defense). Does BODY: +1 IPE: All but Mental Group: +1/2. RSR: INT Roll at -4 or Physiology (or Paramedics or similiar): -1/2 (to visualize the inside of the target). Concentrate (half DCV): -1/4. Can be resisted by another telekinetic (STR 10 will nullify): -1/4. Total Active Cost: 75 Real Cost: 37 Whaddya think? An…

I'm looking to get some people's different ideas on pocket dimensions. I've got a character who's a teleporting martial artist. He uses gateways for his teleports which allows him to teleport others through the gates, teleport himself, and "stretch" his hands with the assistance of small gates. The idea has always been that the gates allow him to pass through another dimension, his own personal alternate dimension of..well, nothing. Another thing about the character, he's a kleptomaniac. So he's always taking things, small tiny trinkets, files from the Mayor's personal filing cabinent, these things =) So what I'm building to submit for GM approva…

Hey everyone, I am in the process of running a new campaign for Hero. The genre is set in the sg-1 universe. The Hero's are a specialized team the go through the Gate on Special Missions. There are some other things they would do but, this is the general focus. My question is... does anyone know of any resource sites that might help with some of the renditions of sg-1 in hero? It's a 250 pt campaign. Thanks.

SPDs above 12. Each SPDs above twelve simply gives you an extra action in the phase approriate added for the SPD. Thus, SPD 13 get two actions in the Appropriate SPD 1 phase. One for the SPD 12 and one for the SPD 1. So SPD 15 would be an extra action 4 8 12. It seems like a decent way to add on, wrapping the SPD around as often as you can spend the points, since in theory in a world of superpowers there are all sorts of effects that could give a character this kind of SPD. Now then.. as a specific example of a character this fast: Bullet Time in the Matrix.. everything goes so slow that relative to everyone else you are going FAST). Ho…

Here is something I've done in a moment of boredom: How to use fractionary SPDs correctly in the time table? http://zara.verge-rpg.com/spdchart.txt The asterisks mark the phases. Notice that for 0.1 increases in SPD, you need ten times as many segments for the chart to wrap. This method has the advantages of eliminating the round-down chink in SPD calculation, as well as making odd values of DEX more useful. Unfortunately, it has the disadvantage of being total bonkers. Comments are welcome.

OK, trying to build a small VPP here. This is the concept: The character can call upon the favor of a group of animal spirits and/or minor gods. Each entity confers a pre-defined set of abilities based on their nature. Each time the VPP is used, the character takes on some of the psych limits of the entity granting the power, and possibly other disads. (Up to here is easy.) Now, here's the catch: The character doesn't always get answered by the entity he's calling on. Sometimes, there's no answer, and sometimes another entity answers. For instance: If the character calls upon a warlike entity for some combat prowess, he might instead be answered by a trickster entity…

To apply the Variable SFX Modifier to an EB or RKA, in order to make it possible to use any kind of energy SFX (fire, electricity, cold, radiation, particle beam, magnetic, laser, gravity), do you need a +1/2 Advantage, or a +1/4 one suffices ?
