Fever

Does anyone have any ideas on how one would duplicate the effects of a fever (or a disease that causes a fever)? How about any ideas on how to reproduce other common (real-world) ailments and symptoms? Thanks!

Instead of using Change Environment or Images, perhaps Transmit for Detect: light as a naked adder would work.

I'm working on a new character concept that's actually a pair of Siamese twins. They share everything from the stomach down, but have separate chests, two arms each, etc. How would you build this? I'm thinking Duplication, of course. They have to be able to act somewhat separately. I'd like them to be able to be knocked out separately, but of course they'd suffer penalties when that happened, since each twin controls only one leg. They can't be recombined. BODY damage to one would be BODY damage to the other. Would both forms pay for the Duplication? Is there a limitation for that? I'm anticipating the 25% differences option--they have a few different skil…

Hello Herodom. One of my players wants a duplicating character (why not; i don't like them since they tend to slow combat but whatever). but something in my words worried him: "if your duplicate is killed then you'll lose it forever; you will have to pay XPs to get a new one" as it is written in the holy Big Black Book. So he came with that idea : Duplication (250 pts duplicate) RC/AC : 50 pts Healing 1D6 (2 act. pts) to Duplication + 0 END +1/2 + Persistent +1/2 - self only -1/2 - extra time (one turn): -1 RC : 8 AC : 20 so, he says, "even if my duplicate is killed, i can have a new one in 5 minutes" Would you all…

How would you build a power (let's just say, for example, a clunky grenade launcher) whose ranged attacks take some time to reach the target at long range? It wouldn't be a flat "delayed effect", because the delay scales with the range.

Ok, I am thinking of building an M4A3 SOPMOD which is basically a carbine version of the M16 with tons of add ons. I want to build it as a multipower. Should I put Real Weapon (-1/4) on the multipower and each of the slots or just on the multipower itself??? Thanks!

I've thinking about a blood magic (or blood powered superpower), i mean that cost STUN (or BODY) instead of END How can i do this? I've thinked about a Reduced END (0 END) and Side Effect; do you know another limitation? (maybe more simple than an advantage and a disadvantage)

There I was all set to do a D20 campaign; either D&D (yes I bought 3.5) or a Spycraft/SG-1 hybrid, or GURPS. Hero had not (seriously) crossed my mind. Then I foolishly asked the players opinion. Why don't we do that Danger International/Fantasy Hero thing we played a while back. It was cool. You could base it on the SF short story you did it seemed excellent. Flattered but thrown I prepared my defence. Er... okay. I've got the new stuff but it's like strange. You know, points for everything and, and, and ...this big book is the basic rules. There are extra books for everything! It didn't work. So... some questions. 1. I'd like to use chamel…

I was working out how to do drills in HERO. Basically killing attack, lots of extra time, OAF. steel tips being armor piercing diamond tips being penetrating I would add "real weapon" limitation so they don't blow a hole in the wall when you use them. But I wanted to have the hole be round and smooth, not some jagged hole like stabbing a spear through a wall. A similar desired effect would be for a scalpel which only cuts what you want it to cut. So I thought of "conforming" from AOE, a +1/2 advantage. For AOE conforming makes it not affect walls and other things. This seemed like basically the effect I wanted. So does conforming make s…

I have no idea what game I'd want to play this in, but I have recently been inspired to create a sort of odd character. An "evil house", ala Rose Red. What I am doing, here, is fishing for ideas on how one would build such a beast. A couple of things come immediately to mind. 1. I could go the classic route and make it a ghost with the house as a focus. But I was looking for something even more enigmatic. 2. I could also build the house itself as the character -- removing such elements as movement -- and use various powers to interact with those inside the house (strong powers) as well as those in the campaign's city (a bit weaker or not quite as dange…

Almanacs?

Hi everyone! This is my first post to here and I'd like to tell you about my first experience of the Hero System - which wasn't very long time ago? I really loved the game and I'm going to get more of those intresting resource books as soon as I'm able to. So far I have only played the hero Fantasy but I can tell it's one of the most fantastic roleplaying games I have ever played. But I do have a question for you guys. As I have searched for those books I have found two books called Almanac 1 and 2. They seemed to belong in the same system as this amazing product made by the Herogames, but yet I have not discovered any info about them from here. Neither have I found…

I have a couple of questions about the Delayed Effect advantage. Essentially, it let's you suffer all the disads of the power when you prepare it instead of when you use it. So what if I want a power that requires certain limitations when preparing (Concentration, Extra Time), but also has certain limitations in effect when used. It seems like it might be appropriate to increase the value of those lims, but by how much? Would it be possible to take a lim twice, once for preparing, once for using? Also, how would you create a multi-part power without having 2 separate Delayed Effect slots? The normal Linked approach doesn't seem to handle that right.

I'm creating a hydra-like robotic summon, and need some help coming up with a suitable defensive power. This robot is not terribly large, about man-sized or a bit smaller, and doesn't have a ton of basic defenses such as PD/ED/CON/STUN (and is not necessarily an automaton either.) However, it is built of 9 independent sub-robots that combine to form the whole. Currently my thought is that its main offensive powers will be (a) a small HKA for bite attacks, and ( fire-based ranged attacks. I'm trying to think of a suitable defense power besides extra PD/ED that would be appropriate for a hydra. One possibility is smoke-based Darkness, but I am concerned that may not be…

It seems like killing attacks are more effective than normal attacks, for a given point cost. For a given DC, killing attacks and normal attacks do the same BODY and STUN, except that the normal attack does +1 STUN per DC. That's a small bonus but could be significant in a large DC attack. But killing attacks completely bypass normal defenses if you don't have resistant defense, while normal attacks always get PD+DEF against both Body and Stun. So, if an opponent has no armor, he gets his full PD against both STUN and BODY of a normal attack, but no defense at all against a killing attack. The normal attack does get +1 STUN/DC more than the killing attack, …

This appears mostly in fantasy, but could be high tech or something else. The character has a body. It can be impaired or crippled through damage, can feel pain and be stunned. But it cannot be killed. The actual life force is someplace else. Usually an orb, bone, or other small object. Stabbing the character through the heart won't kill them, but breaking the thing that holds their lifeforce will. And it usually is fragile with only 1 body. So how would you do this where they could not be killed but could be knocked unconcious, and how would you do it where they could not be knocked unconcious or killed.

Detect Being Detected (10) Ranged (5) Sense (2) 360 (5) Discriminatory (5) Targeting (10) Total: 37 points I thought this one up in calculus and thought my fellow posters would get a kick out of it. The idea was to bring truth to that infamous fallacy of logic "If I can't see them, they can't see me!" The user of this sense automatically knows if he's been detected (invisible power effects senses excepted), What kind of sense he was targetted with, and where the POV of the sense is. A munchkin sense if ever there was one, but I would like to see any rivals that might exist out there.

Say you've got a base that's set in a cliff. To get through the front face you just need to get through a relatively normal stone wall (assuming you couldn't just break down the door or teleport inside), but to get through any other face you need to bore through a few hexes of solid stone. How should a base like this be dealt with, ruleswise? -- Pteryx

How would you deal with someone (or something -- I'm trying to figure out how to build a base from an old game I was in) being a weirdness magnet? This wouldn't necessarily be good or bad, but certainly plot-affecting and potentially inconvenient. It'd be something I'd want to track seperately from Luck or Unluck. Would it be a Disadvantage, SFX, or what? -- Pteryx

I'm trying to build a versatile power armor. In the game, the pilot has a choice between 5 modes, deciding which to choose at the beginning of his phase. The first three are classic : Power (more Strength), Speed (high velocity Movement), and Reach (Ranged Attack). That works like a regular multipower. The last two are custom, and can be changed in a matter of hours back in the lab. Those can only be simulated by a VPP. If I am to include all these in a single structure (doing otherwise would cost twice as much), it must thus be a VPP. Since changing between any mode is a free action, I think it is a Cosmic VPP. Now how much of a limitation is : Only 5 Possiblit…

I would like to make an offer to ANYONE who is doing a conversion/setting for HERO 5th and doesn't wish to pay for a site that is free from banners/popups I am willing to host you for free. You will be totally responsible for your own layout etc and I will upload them for you. I'll even give you a free POP3 e-mail address at My domain. it is a ".org" domain because people have voluntarily donated to help pay the bills. anyone so inclined to do so I suggest $12 USD for "a year". I do NOT turn away those who don't have the funds. To see some of the stuff on the site go to http://www.hackwurld.org

First, let me say I'm a real newbie; ok, let's go on to the work Question One: Is it possible to use "extradimensional travel" with the advantage "usable as attack"? In my thoughts, it should work as a one way travel to a "dark dimension", on touch (successuful hand to hand roll). Do I need other advantages? Question Two: My body is composed by such dark matter from that aforementioned dimension, so that every bullet, projectile or even a character charging me, should disappear in that dimension as soon as it comes in touch with the body. What's the right combination of power/advantages I should ask my GM to give? Thanks in advance

If two players are creating their characters together and decide to link them in some way, how can this best be simulated in the write=ups? Some examples: The PCs are boyfriend/girlfriend before the campaign beings or are a married couple. One PC is the parent of another. One PC has an unreqited crush on another. One PC is, under the law of the campaign world, the property of another. One PC is the commander of a military unti and the other PC (perhaps all the other PCS) are under his command under the military table of organization, and have to follow his orders (but are free to interpret them to best get the job done). The entire party cons…

Got another question for people here. A character of mine is a teleporting martial artist (think Nightcralwer, but with gateways for the teleportations). His teleport ability is designed around an Elemental Control of the teleportation gateways. He's going through a ...change, and I'd like to see (if I can even get GM approval for this) him be able to recharge his end a little whenever he himself passes through the "dimesional cosmos" that he passes through whenever he goes from one gateway to another. It's technically instantaneous, but the special effect is that there's this energetic cosmos that he travesl thorugh so he can puch thorugh a gateway picking up…
