A player character is the great-great-grandniece of John Reid, the Lone Ranger. She wants to carry, as a backup weapon, Granduncle John's antique .44 revolver, loaded with six silver bullets. One player insist that silver bullets should cost more than lead in character points (character does have money perk, she's the freaking Kemo Sabi Silver Mine heiress, and her grandfather still owns a chain of newspapers). As I am giveing no game advantage to the silver, it is a Marvel-ish superhero campagine (Werewolves and Vampires not impossible, but no indication they will be a regular feature of the campagine), and I am inclined to simply call it a special effect. …

I'm sure this has been covered before, but I'm almost out of internet time (I only have the net at work). Apologies where needed. How would I make a character who could do super knockback? Like, I hit someone with my stick and they fly back three blocks, and fifty feet in the air? Is that just lots of increased knockback, or leaping UAA, or what?

How would you build a power that destroys armor? Maybe some sort of dispel? What about a power that could make a hole, but not completely destroy an armor?

Didn't want to "hijack" the Heal thread, so I'm starting a new one. Those already tired of the Regeneration discussion can skip this. Rather than base Regeneration on Healing, I use extra Recovery, with a +1/2 advantage for each step up the time chart. Like normal Rec, it costs 2 pts to regain 1 Body per month. Shorter intervals cost more: 2pts Rec 1 Body per month 3pts Rec 1 Body per week 4pts Rec 1 Body per day 5pts Rec 1 Body per 6 hours 6pts Rec 1 Body per 1 hour 7pts Rec 1 Body per 20 minutes 8pts Rec 1 Body per 5 minutes 9pts Rec 1 Body per minute 10pts Rec 1 Body per turn This probably looks familiar; IIRC, when Regen first…

I think this is a rules question, but I'm erring on the side of caution and posting it here. Either way, I'd appreciate Steve's feedback. What's the difference between Inherent (an Advantage) and Always On (a Limitation). I was building an Alien race and I stopped to consider this. If I buy Extra Limbs, and they're always there, why pay an extra point (5 * 1 1/4) when I can pay one less point (5 * 3/4)? Or is this just a "If it's good to have it on all the time, it's inherent. If it's bad to have it on all the time, it's Always On" kind of thing? -cK

Hi, i'm trying to organize the advantages in different categories. the purpose is to offer to new players (which i'm currently dealing with) a easier-to-understand panel of the different advantages of the game. here is the first draft : i would be grateful if some people could help through suggestions/opinions/comments/etc... a) "counter-protection" advantages - Affects Desolid - Armor-piercing - AVLD - NND - Penetrating "Duration/Sustaining" advantages - Continuous - Persistent - Inherent - Uncontrolled - Difficult to dispel c) "Triggering/Delaying" advantages - Delayed effect - Time Delay - Trigger d)…

I am converting Privateer Press' Iron Kingdoms over to Hero. They have a trilogy of adventures out and in the first one there is an unusual weapon: Alchemical Fog Machine. It produces a thick fog in the target area. At first I was going to use Darkness for it - but darkness is too strong. It is described as giving a bonus to concealment (Stealth in Hero). So I defined it as a skill level as follows: Cost: 3pts Gobber Fog Machine: +2 Stealth, Megascale (1" = 1 km; +1/4), Area Of Effect (One Hex; +1/2) (17 Active Points); Extra Time 5 Minutes (-2), OAF Fragile Expendable (Difficult to obtain new Focus; -1 1/2), 1 Continuing Charges lasting 1 Hour each (-1/4) …

I am working on an idea for a campaign and have come across a problem with armour. Say I have a character that wears a Bustier/Leotard made of super spandex that gives her let’s say 12PD/12ED. She also will have super hose to cover her legs of let say around 4PD/4ED. Now I would I handle the activation rolls on this? Thanx in Advance G Illustration to Follow on case I am confusing:

So, a friend of mine asked me how to build Castle-ing in 5th edition: you know, one guy trades places with another. In this case, it's always the same two people, and the power resides in only one of the characters, and she wants to castle the other person up close and at (very) long distance, even when the target is unconscious. Just to level the playing field, say that she only wants one charge. On my first crack at it, it got pretty expensive. So, what's the cheapest legal way to build this? --d

I humbly ask that one of my fellow anally retentive Hero fans checks my math on the Galleon listed in the TUV. As listed it has a SPD 3 and Swimming 3"/6" This makes me wonder if average sailors have to have a SPD 3 to keep up or do they just let the ship run wild on the extra Segment...but that is for another thread. On page 55 of TUV: 1 nautical mile per hour = 926" per hour. On page 232 of the rule book: Each Turn = 12 seconds. That would mean 5 Turns/Minute and 300 Turns/Hour. 926"/hour divided by 300 Turns/Hour would mean 1 nautical mile per hour is roughly 3.09"/Turn. Assuming NCM 6" x 3 SPD = 18"/Turn. 18"/Turn divided by 3.09"/Turn = 5.83 k…

Cost 9 +4" Running (10" total), x4 Noncombat, Reduced Endurance 1/2 END (+1/4) (19 Active Points); Limited Power Reduced endurance only in noncombat (-1/2) OK this is part of a racial package for a tall desert race that can run very fast for long distances. What do you all think and any other ways you can think of to do this?

Hey guys, I could use some advice. I've been playing Hero/Champions for many moons, but I haven;t lately. Geez, play d20 for a couple of years & they put out a new Edition on ya. Go figure. Anyway, I have a good bit of 4th ed material, either myself or available from friends. I have a few questions, if you'll be patient. - How important is it to buy 5th ed anyway? - Is there a big difference between 4th & 5th? - Will my 4th ed stuff still be compatable? - would it be wise to buy the new FH or Star Hero & use it w/4th edition? - If a tree falls in the forest & no one is th... whoops, got carried away. Anyhow, you ge…

I have a character I am trying to create (the gliding brick). He is a Gargoyle who is living flesh at night, but during the day is a statue. That in and of itself I have no idea how to pull off. On top of that he has to instantly heal and and all damage/drains/etc. at dusk when he breaks free of his stone slumber. It is important that the effect coincide with the transformation at dusk because it is possible that at some point, rather than turning into a statue, he will turn into a normal human, though still fully heal at dusk as he transforms back into a gargoyle. How do I do this? The character, interestingly enough, is immortal, and has seen much of the world…

GM Organization 1 2

I realize GM Organization really depends on the individual and the type of game they are playing. However I was wondering how all the GM's out there organize their binders before each game, etc. I have some good ideas but I really do not want to reinvent the wheel. Plus learning from experienced GM's would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I'm trying to model a firebreath attack for a Dragon. Should be area of effect - cone, 2d6 Killing dmg. Now I'm trying something else: 3d6 Killing dmg, but with something like an explosion style diminuishing damage class system. As explosion is ruled only for circular shape, this does not work very well. Version 1: I just cut off everything outside the cone, but I lose a lot of area (about 2/3) and pay the full price anyway, I don't like that idea much. Version 2: I cuonted the hexes under the explosion radius. The problem I had: even 7 damage classes have a giantic area filled, and reshaping that to cone has quite an extreme range. And it gets worse with every …

Disclaimer: I don't claim to be a Hero System guru. I did search the discussion boards for a similar topic but didn't find one but if one exists I apologise for going over it again. As I understand it, the simplified version of Heal for dealing with wounds results in the restoration of 0 to 2 BODY per dice of Heal. Firstly, isn't this unfair. If you bought the Heal the normal way you could get up to 3 BODY back. Secondly, might it not have been easier to define a return of 1d6 BODY as 2d6 of Heal. Given this last point, doesn't healing cost more than inflicting damage - it's 15 points for 1d6 killing damage but it would cost 20 points of heal to restore up to 6 …

An absurd question, I know, but for pure entertainment value, how would you build the famed Trogdor the Burninator?

Okay... in my Modern Day Horror Campaign, a couple of my characters want weapons not provided by the BBB. The list is as follows: Katana Tri-Staff Nunchaku I don't have the money to spend on a book, or I'd already have bought all the HERO 5e books (kinda sucks being stuck in 4e). Anyway, I just need the Stat Blocks for them, not point costs (I'm running a 75/75 game).

I was recently reflecting on how I would convert characters from my old GURPS Supers game to Champions. Everything was pretty straightforward until I got to Harlequin, the clown/acrobat with the rubber body. Harlequin was built with the GURPS Supers Bouncing advantage (p. SU37). It reads: Okay, this seems straightforward. Simply buy PD and Leaping, perhaps in an EC. But GURPS goes on: Phew. Okay, so now we've got the 90% thing. I have no clue how to build that in HERO. Lots of extra Leaping, with a limitation Only after vertical fall? Except it works horizontally. Then we've got Damage Reduction, apparently, with RSR, so that when you hit the ground a…

I've been looking around for a "Superhero" RPG. I've been reading up on the new Marvel RPG, but Im not too impressed. If I would like to start GM'ing HERO, knowing that I have never played it before. What books do you recommend I pick up first? The Hero 5th Edition Rules I know is a given. Thank you.

Can anyone tell me where to find the STR adds to damage advantage? I've heard it mentioned a couple times in the forums, but I can't find it anywhere in my 5th edition book.

I've got a lot of stuff figured out now, being a newbie to the system. The thing I am having the hardest time with is bringing it all together. Actually creating a character. Is there anywhere that I can find a concept to concrete character creation document? -Preston
