We have a character with both Danger Sense and Clarisentience. How would you rule on the activation of the Danger Sense in an area where the character is currently remote viewing? Danger Sense is a sense after all and Clarisentience simply allows the senses to be used remotely. Would it cost +5 points to have this unusual sense used remotely? Thanks in advance for you opinions and comments.

I relise it's a dumb question, but I'll post it anyway. Is Telekenisis visible? From what I can see it's a "Standard Power/Attack Power" that costs End so per page 71 it should be a visible power. Then I see the BOECV note that Psychokenesis is both visible and percieved by Mental Awareness. Then I think, usually when Telekenisis is portrayed in movies or TV it's not visible. I'd hate to use up extra points for an un-needed advantage but, as I see it, you have to add the Invisible Power Effects advantage if you want TK as it's usually portrayed.

Hi, I'm new to the game and these boards. My DM from a D&D game suggested we try this system after I accidentally killed a major character, ending the campaign. Having played twice now I've decided that I absolutely love the system. I purchased the 5th edition book and will be buying more. I am currently trying to build a gliding brick. A 400kg gargoyle with wings, claws, and a tail. The claws were easy enough, Reduced Penetration on a HKA. The tail is a Prehensile Extra Limb with 1" of Stretching. The gliding I'm having a bit more trouble with. He has a jump of 12" with his 60 STR, with that I want to give him Fly at x4 END and then Glide. I guess what I am…

I want to make a FF, but I want it to work like this - THe FF runs off an END Reserve, but it only uses END when it gets hit. So, special effect is that the FF runs on a built in recharging amount of power, but when it gets hit, the reserve has to expend some additional END to bolster it back up. So, the FF can be super strong, but can be undermined by enough attacks (the weak Energy Blaster hits the guy 10 times, and by Segment 12, his Reserve is out of power and the FF shuts down, and the Brick hits the guy hard). How do I do this?

Steve, once Marvel and DC newest Roleplaying systems fail, which they will, has there been any thought of licensing. I know I started with the original Marvel (pre-Advanced Marvel) system from TSR. The system had a wonderful universe that I cared about, but once you’re over about 14 you discover the system fails to live up to the level of HERO (or even a modern d20 system). If Hero games contracted to create Marvel and/or DC settings it would bring in a lot of new players. It would also, I believe help the comic companies, as you have a much better game mechanic then they do. I like the Hero Universe, don’t get me wrong – but I’d rather meet…

Hi Guys, I'm working on a character whose primary (and pretty much only) power is teleportation. She works as a courier and messenger because of her ability to get around in the blink of an eye. That got me to thinking about her usefulness in combat, specifically as a defensive person, t-porting people out of danger just before impact. If she has first action, I imagine she could hold action until the incoming attack, then try to interrupt. According to the book this is resolved by DEX rolls to see who gets their move in first. Harsh way to live. What's more, I wanted her to grab somebody AND teleport... two half-actions. This sounds fairly reasona…

Greetings all. I've been lurking for some time, and now it's about time I said something. I've noticed a lot of people discussing using Hero in various different gaming worlds through conversion and such. So I ask this: has anyone ever tried to run Paranoia via Hero? I know that Paranoia and Hero are about as diametrically opposed as you can get mechanics wise, but I got in the mood for Paranoia recently, and, well, I don't have any of my old stuff. I do however have a big black book with a green man on the front. Just thought I'd ask. Logan

Can anyone point me to a written example of a detailed HERO system combat? Something that explains exactly who goes when and what happens? I'm trying to explain HERO combat to some potential players and I'm having trouble because of language and time factors. Ideally I would like to find something online that explains the course of a combat written out like the italicized sections of the rulebook's sidebars.

Steve - Feel free to move this post, I wasn't sure where it belonged. Oh yeah, and this question is probably directed at you, too. Why was Ninja Hero published? Not "why do we need a Ninja Hero", but why has it already been published? And, of all the genre books, why does it not have any support? It seems to me that Fantasy Hero is a more popular genre than Ninja Hero. This can even be seen here, because we have a Fantasy Hero forum, but not one for Ninja Hero. We also lack any support for Ninja Hero, other than the Ultimate Martial Artist, which is a great sourcebook for any genre. There is no setting, or toolkit, or anything. If Ninja has demand…

I hope no one minds me asking the question, I was just curious. I haven't seen too much lately in my WOTC store but then again it reorganized to be more general games and cards. On the other hand, there seems to be a number of products that are planned. Personally, I am pulling for the line (I've bought the Hero 5th edition, Champions genre book, Champions Universe, and CKC with plans for others possibly) since it's a great system and the best to simulate super hero comics. Thanks.

I've got a brick in the campaign. Now, I have no problem with figuring out how far a thrown vehicle goes; I actually remembered this and applied the rule appropriately before I even looked it up to make sure I was right. But then the brick in question decided he was going to use a car as a club. How do I go about this? As near as I can tell the following things come into play... The survivability of the car. It can only do as much damage as it has DEF + BODY, and in a swing or two is likley to crumble to nothing. The weight of the vehicle. Should I figure out the STR required to lift the vehicle, subtract said STR from the character's STR being applied? D…

People have often wondered how to do an immunity. A player of mine pointed out that a person could by the advantage personal immunity say up too 100pt active points. This would run 25 points. This could be lowered to show that while he is immune to fire he isn't verses a high powered fireball or fire breath. While the ability was meant for powers outside the character, this is could work with GMs permission. Would also have to be watched by the GM as well, but for the cost of plus 1\4 it could work.

I'm thinking Desolid, with a minor (-¼?) limitation that the possessing entity (spirit, Agent, whatever) does not take the damage, but the body they're possessing DOES. A Mind Control would also be required, enough to reach EGO + 30, in order to place the 'possessed individual' under full control. Most likely the possessor would want to reach the +10 'Does Not Remember' level as well as the +10 'Contradicts Psych Lims' level, so you'd be looking at +50 total -- or an average/reliable roll of 60 points. Using the 'Average Effect' suggested rule, then, we're looking at between 11d6 (low end) and 17d6 (high end) to reliably possess normal people, even 2-3d6 higher if you…

Is there an advantage to Autofire that I'm not seeing? You make one attack roll for the entire volley. You hit with one shot for every 2 you make your attack roll by, after the first hit. So basically, when you Autofire, you take a -2 to your OCV for every shot after the first. Against a target with comparable CV, you'll have to roll very well to land more than 3 shots. So why would someone buy Autofire past the +1/4 value? By the time you're firing 4 shots or more (+1/2 Advantage or more), your chances of hitting your target are slim to none. On top of that, the target gets to apply its defenses against every shot. Taking the points spent on that +1/2 adv…

Someone suggested I post my method for dealing with precognitave characters, fortunetelling and such in my campaigns. The method is actually very simple, just follow the first rule: The future is unknown until it is known. In other words if a character is silly enough to look into the future and ask if they will ever defeat their arch-rival, I decide the chances of success (usually low) and roll secretly to find out. Then I make a note of the results and exert my control of events as GM to guarentee that future comes to pass (faking rolls of the dice as needed). If that means the enemy kills the character, then his days are numbered, unless something grand such …

-The Hulk stops the dam from leaking by putting a boulder in the way. -Spiderman stops the bridge from collapsing by using his webbing to mesh together the cables that snapped. -Superman stops the ship from sinking by welding the breach closed with his heat vision. Is this just a SFX or is there something that refs require (Body Aid?) in order to do such things? I use just good RPing myself but wondered if anyone required rules for it.

I have a puzzling question. One of my fellow gamers said his last GM informed him this power could not be built for a 75 AP limit. I am unsure why? I am thinking that the prior GM did not want to deal with it...it seems pretty straightforward. The character (Bob?) is a Telepath who is trying to teach himself to use his powers. He suffers from the XMen "Jean Grey" effect of being unable to easily tune-out the surrounding mental noise. He's has yet to learn to block out surface thoughts. IE: His Telepathy is always running at a low level picking up surface thoughts from everyone around him. Bob has been built with 360 Mental Sensing, and the Telepathy in his…

I don't want to start another long thread about how well Hero manages to represent the damage one takes when one falls off a 6-story building onto the pavement. But... Ralph, Randy, and Rupert are identical triplets, all with PD 4. Ralph is wearing a business suit (Def 0) and empties his pockets of keys, cellphone, and other sharp or blunt objects. Randy is wearing a suit of full plate mail (Def 5) from his armor collection. Rupert is wearing Super Power Armor (rPD 10, rED 10) that his genius stepsister invented for him. All three jump off a typical urban apartment building which is six stories tall - let's just say it's 10". All three brothers jump from the bui…

I'm not really needing a rules answer as much as a how do you think it should be handled answer. The question? If you link two (or more) powers together, should many of the limitations on the primary power also be on the secondary powers? the reason for this question? A character can transform into a body of living stone. The intire process is linked thru a mystic amulet for which he must utter a command word. Several powers turn on and off together for this. so if the primary power (density increase) has the IIF and incantations limits, should the other linked powers get them as well? I'm for saying yes, but wanted to see what the board says. TimS.

Hello, folks. I'd like to know how you could simulate the "Memory Absorption" power in HERO. You know, part of what Rogue does when she touches someone, or Brain Trust's (from the Wild Cards novels) only power. The "skill copy" part is pretty easy. Use a VPP with the appropriate Limitations to simulate the pool of absorbed skills the character can access. The problem is the memory part proper, getting access to the victims's secrets. Telepathy seems a obvious choice, but it's kinda awkward. It allows for the target to "breakout", and in this situation there is no breakout possible. You just copied their memories inside your own head. A Transform would do th…

Imagine this, Diamond Head, the invulnerable brick faces a pack of Hells Angels. One take a mighty swing at Diamond Head and breaks his fist. The others run. How can we simulate this? I think one mechanism would be a variant of the rules on Movethorough. If the attacker does no body or stun or knockback, the attacker takes full damage from his own melee attack. If the attacker is using a melee weapon, then the weapon takes the full damage, and the attacker takes 1/2 the stun. If hit locations are used, the striking part takes the damage. Why only for Hay Makers? Well this is to simulate that most strikes are not done with so much force to hurt the assa…

Here's the situation: I'm creating a superhero character who has a small (30 pt.) Magic VPP. One of the main uses of this pool will be to make potions & scrolls for small, useful power boosts (say, 5/5 Armor, that sort of thing). The intent is that to activate a scroll, he has to read it out loud. So, it looks like Focus (OAF) Incant to Start, 1 Continuing Charge (scroll blanks itself after use) Here's the question: the effect (say for this it's Armor) should continue until the time runs out; if the scroll is snatched out of his hands *AFTER* he's read it, it doesn't do anything, since the effect is independent of the scroll once invoked. This make…

OK, I've been playing since FIRST edition, and generally can work out the rules for myself. However, this one has sat wrong with me since 5e came out. What am I missing? A 350 point character spends 150 points on Duplication. He gets Telkekinetic Sidekicks as listed on page 101. These duplicates should have 250 points and be identical to the originating character as they are not altered duplicates. But the base character has 350 points, not 250, so they can't be identical. More to the point, only the base character pays points for duplication. The duplicates, therefore, should only be 200 point characters - they have all of Base Character's points, less …

There's an item in my game that can teleport people back to the entrance of any area they've entered. Should I build the ability to return to an entrance as a fixed location, a floating fixed location, or something else? This is what I'm using so far: Escape Rope: 40" Teleportation, 8x Mass, 1 Fixed Location (back to the entrance), (AP 101); OAF (-1), 1 Charge (-2), Charge Does Not Recover(-2), Can Only Teleport To Fixed Locations (-1), (RC 14).
