Am planning on running some sample combats for my groups that is FINALLY developing enough of an interest in the genre to try some super hero games. We've already dinked with M&M somewhat - my idea was to do a quick convert on their M&M character ideas into HERO 5th - then run some mock combats in each and see what they think of each. For the most part this is simple, except for the Powered Armor characters one ability. He want's his armor to be able to do it's own thing when he is not armored up - so he can do the Stark standing next to Iron Man type of thing. In M&M we wrote this up as the armor just being a sidekick of the character with data …

Hey i picked up the Bay city source book for the setting and everything, but it thought i would ask if anyone knows how to convert Fuzion to Hero because it has some stuff that would be nice to not have to re-write incase i decide to use it... and before you start flaming me for buying fuzion, it was only around five bucks, and i don't have any of the old books for stuff to read, so i made do, though i don't get what the big fuss is, right now the only problem i have with it is that it looks like you had to buy the books to get thte rules faq and stuff but since i don't intend to play fuzion, it doesn't matter to me....

I'm still slowly converting over old characters to 5Th and with the extra points I can afford various "cool" powers that I always wanted and I'm stumped...I have Time twister speedster and I want him to be "Immune to becoming dizzy"...is this an aplication of Life support or an odd Environmental movement style effect? Either way it should be cheap as it is a flavor power that is unlikely to ever actually be used...Thanx

Acid Damage, PD or ED?

So, how do people play acid attacks? In your games does it work against PD or ED? I could see arguments for both sides. ED, because it doesn’t hurt via inertia. PD because it has a physical component, lacking feel of lasers, fire, cold, & lightning. As you can see my reasoning is far more defined for ED, but I still have the inklings for PD because of the gut feeling.

At one point, a player in the group I'm in played a character who's powers were based on Vash the Stampede from Trigun. He lacked one of Vash's powers though, and it's been wearing at my mind as to how to do it. How would one manipulate the trajectory of bullets in a gun fight one isn't involved in? I'm specifically thinking of the episode with the pistol dueling competition. Vash used his trajectory mainuplation powers to help others hit their targets, but making sure the shots were all non-lethal. I don't know how a Person A could effect Person B's shots at Person C. He could make Person B's shots more or less acurate, and always made sure that when Person C got …

1.) If the "Hero System Rules" board isn't the proper forum for discussing "design philosophy", when where IS the proper forum? Certainly I can exchange opinions back & forth with other players in any forum, but I would be interested in learning the "official party line" on why certain rules and powers were changed from the way they were in 4th Edition when they already seemed to work perfectly well. Is there a FAQ on WHY the revisions were made? 2.) I understand your point that a debate over which way is the "right" way to simulate various effects would ultimately be meaningless because at the end of the day we would only be comparing opinions and there's no …

I just had a discution with a freind. He sees a Vampire's BloodLust as a Beserk, feeling that once the Vamp has subcomed to it (made that roll) he is lost in the feeding Frenzy and that he'll do anything to keep feeding. Now I agree with him to a point. I say that Beserk/Enraged have set rules for thier aplication and that these rules alter the specific way that the char (Vamp) can act while in this Frenzied state, (such as they will continue to attack anything as long as the recover roll hasn't been made) even if the only viable target has been killed. Granted my friend said that they would just look for someone else to feed on. (But I say that's a bit too rational for …

First post...and I hope it isn't a stupid one. I'm a relative newbie to the Champions universe. I played a few times (twice, actually) many moons ago and enjoyed the game. Recently, I decided to buy the 5th Edition rulebook and see if I could get my band of geeks into some superhero roleplaying. So i bought the 5th Edition Hero rules, and the Champions sourcebook. Today at lunch, I wander into a Wizards of the Coast store and noticed that all non-wizard products are 70% off! Squealing with delight, I peruse the Champions section and I see the Resource Kit and Champions: New Millennium. I page through the New Millennium book, and notice that it is compatable with 5th…

Why would anybody buy a Ranged Killing Attack and then put the limitation of No Range on it when you can by a HtH killing attack instead, which is what you are really buying, isn't it? Or am I missing something. I ask because I see many powers that have this set up, but I also notice that many of them are linked to a different power, like the Laser Sword in Star HERO that represents a lightsaber. I am just confused.

I may have missed this, but I did a search on Armor Piercing and didn't see any thread specifically adressing this. Question: In 5th Ed, am I correct in understanding that, if you buy a Hand Killing Attack, and put AP on it. (Say 2d6k + AP for 45 Active points)... you get to add your STR (say 15 STR so add 1d6K to the attack) and get full AP on the total 3d6 attack... even though you didn't buy AP on your STR. Is this correct? If so, it makes things simple, but I find this very unbalancing. HKAs are already the most easily abusable attack out there, and giving any Power Advantage on the HKA to the STR automatically only seems to make it worse. J…

In everyone's opinion, would a standard hand grenade be Trigger (Pull Pin) or would that just be a Special Effect? I'm thinking in terms of the scene in X-Men 2 where... (Spoilers) . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . 5 4 3 2 1 ...Magneto kills a group of soldiers by magnetically pulling the pins on all of the grenades that they're carrying.

I'm sure it seems like we just updated the FAQ -- because we did -- but I want to get back on the monthly schedule now that Ben's not busy writing. So, the May update is now available; AFAIK the PDF hasn't yet been updated. If you have any questions/comments, please post 'em in the "Company Questions" thread of the same name.

That's damn funny. Okay, here goes... If my mouse has universal translator and I want to buy it down by restricting the languages so that he must be "taught" them (Kind of like the Cramming perk, only for languages) and I were going to require use of pipe cleaners, duct tape, and a kilo of pure heroine, what would the limitation be worth? (You can't imagine how hard it was to make up a question to fit those answers)

HISTORY: Special effects can hurt some PC's more than others, e.g. a vulnerability to fire. A PC could, therefore, take more damage from "magic" effects, or "mental" effects. PURPOSE of thread: A friend and I are going to be debating magic vs. mental powers soon. I'd like to hear other opinions from Hero Gamers. It is not a debate that we can turn to the Hero rules to solve since it isn't necessarily a rules question. I perceive mental and magic as being two entirely different things with vagely similar trappings. To me, a Mental power comes from the mind; it cannot function without an actual, tangible brain behind it. Magic, on the other hand, is more ethe…

As I recall, when Xavier put on that shiney headpiece he basically megascaled a few of his powers (he claims it takes them to the thousandth power). I was wondering how you would do this. The character I'm tinkering with is a weapon of mass destruction. He was sent to observe humanity over the course of seven generations and then decide whether to give them vast alien knowledge or obliterate them. Six generations have gone by, and he feels torn, and decides to try to nudge humanity along (by joining a superhero team, of course). He has a vehicle in orbit that megascales his teleport, clairsentience, and telepathy. I was considering just figuring out what his powers wou…

Hey all! I've (finally) had a chance to go through the chat server code and start to refine it. Hopefully this will prevent any crashes during the Monday/Thursday chats. To that extent, I could use your help. I need to "stress test" the chat. I'll be in the chat room all evening today from now (~4pm CT) until about 9pm CT. If you have a minute, please stop into the chat and see how it works for you. Thanks in advance! Dan

Ok I have written in here before and I recieved some great help but I'm still lost. I need some help in Basic (extremely Basic) Character creation. Please , please, please, please, Help!!! I need to understand the system. Point of clarification I have both played and GM'd games but I do not (as of yet) understand the Concept of Hero Games. If you could break the process down using simple terms ( yes I may sound stupid but I have had others try to teach me and failed) Please explain it as if to a ten year old (I am 29 years old but I feel stupid) I am not afraid to admit I have NO clue how to do this. Yeah I know I should give up and move along but I'm also…

I was just flipping through the book, reading the combat section and noticed that no matter what the characters will go in the same rough order all the time and I was trying to figure a way to change it. Then I was reading JAGS and an idea popped into my head, which is this: At the beginning of each combat, each person makes a DEX check and compares it to their Dexterity roll. If they fail their roll, they subtract 1 from their total DEX for each they missed by unless they roll a natural 18. If they succeed they add one to their respective DEX for each number they succeed by unless they roll a natural 3. If they critically fail, they roll 3d6 and subtract th…

Dual Brians

I'm working on a creature with 2 brians. I have thought of a couple ways of doing this but wasn't sure on the legality of them. 1)Increase the Spd, Allows the creature to act more an could reflect the two brains. I realize this is legal 2)Limited form of duplication. Doesn't create a second body. Just a second brain. Speciall effect is that the body would react twice in a round. This I'm totally unsure of the legality

In response to a recent question http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=3186 Steve talked about the business of being an actor. I think his response was spot on (I bet Steve's really relieved I agree with him ), but Harry asked about KS: Acting as well (at least in the heading of his question). I suggest that PS: Acting is not only the business of being an actor, but also other practical things such as learning your lines, knowing stagecraft (or television or film etc) and being able to take direction. KS: Acting would cover theoretical or anecdotal knowledge about different methods of acting, famous actors, acting schools, great per…

I'm trying to design a character who is basically a Sabertooth rip-off and I'm trying to model the toxin/disease immunity. Simple enough on the whole. The problem is, I don't want the absolute immunity bestowed by LS - Toxin or Disease Immunity. I'd like it to be more of a resistance. i.e. it can be overloaded with huge doses of toxin and even with normal doses, the character gets a slight, temporary effect. After all, who'd want to be totally immune to all of the effects of alcohol? Any ideas? Preferably costing less than the 10pts for absolute immunity! Thanks in advance. Smudge

I was wondering, you know how in shows like Vultron and Power Rangers they each have robots that can combine into one? What would be the best way represent these mechas in HERO? I'm thinking of giving having the characters pay for the mecha's stats and giving it OIHID and OIF. Also, if I wanted these mechas to combine into a super mecha, how would I do that? I was thinking of each of the pilot's contributing a portion of the super mecha's CP with some limitations such as Must Have Mechas Combine or something like that. Any ideas from the HERO gurus out there?

I figure we may as well start a list now. With ten years worth of input, "SREd" should write itself.
