Ever consider bringing forward some of the old rules that were dropped along the way? Sometimes old discarded rules are brought back in the official rules, of course. In 6e we regained the Trip maneuver that was last seen in Fantasy Hero 3e, for example. The "Kick" maneuver, however, hasn't made it out of Champions 1e-3e. And although "Hold" was used in every non-Champions game from Espionage to Star Hero in the 2e and 3e eras, it hasn't been seen since. "Killing Blow" and "Flying Tackle" were in Espionage, Justice Inc, Danger International, and Star Hero but disappeared with 4e. Kick: -2/-2, damage x1-1/2, lands at the end of the follo…

Based on the old DnD spell - Prismatic Spray - how would such a power be made for a superheroic game? Below is how the spell was originally phrased: 1 Red 20 points fire damage (Reflex half) 2 Orange 40 points acid damage (Reflex half) 3 Yellow 80 points electricity damage (Reflex half) 4 Green Poison (Kills; Fortitude partial, take 1d6 points of Con damage instead) 5 Blue Turned to stone (Fortitude negates) 6 Indigo Insane, as insanity spell (Will negates) …

There is more than one instance, such as Viper, where someone has an obvious focus, yet the attack itself is Invisible. Do you simply treat the attacker as Invisible for purposes of hitting an opponent? I doubt this. If an agent is pointing a weapon like a blaster at a hero - even if the attack itself is invisible - the hero will be trying to get out of the way. However, it should be harder to get out of the way of an attack you can't actually see. How do you handle this?

The old villain, Fire and Ice, has been around in the campaign so I gave him a new attack. It's a 5d6 EB NND (LS: heat or cold). He fires intense cold from one hand and intense heat from the other hand; the hero getting hit gets caught between fainting from heat and falling unconscious from the cold, hence the NND. I ran into a situation last game where a superheroine is immune to cold but vulnerable to fire. What would have happened if she'd been hit by the attack? Been pondering this and I'm thinking she'd still take some damage in a convulated way, since she would still be getting hit with intense heat. Fortunately, she wasn't hit by the attack and I didn't…

A hero has a 50 Str TK power, and using TK grabs an opponent to hold him in place. Can the hero on his next attack PHA grab another opponent with TK and hold them, for a total of 2 opponents?

Something that I only just noticed in the APG2 is an extension of 6E2's info on Aborting an Action (pg; 21). Namely; "If a character’s suffering a DCV penalty based on a previous action and he Aborts to a defensive action, whether doing so removes the DCV penalty is up to the GM." APG2 pg 56. The example given is a half-move NCM then reserving a half phase to abort to a dodge to reset your DCV to full, +3. But this applies to something like a Haymaker too, right? In other words if I’m Speed 3 and I drop a Haymaker on an opponent on phase 4, it of course lands at the end of everyone’s actions on phase 5. If I sense an overwhelming attack…

I have a question about endurance characteristic. Do you use the END characteristic in your games or do you ignore it? If you do use it how do you keep track of it? Do you have any house rules concerning it's use?

Hi everyone, I just noticed there was a Cyber Hero book during the 4E era? If so, is it possible to have this officially updated to 6E? I think it would sell. Can we add it to the Patreon queue? Thanks!

I'm working on a probability-based character and was considering a limitation that would require Luck Point (aka a 6 on a Luck Die). What would folks rate this at? -1? -1/2?

The effect I'm trying to simulate is a spell (or item) that lets the subject leave tracks like those of some other being (woman's high heels, child's sneaker, soldier's boot, bare foot, etc.) or even an animal. My brain keeps going in different directions on this -- is it a penalty to Tracking, or some kind of Images, or even a Transform (the answer to everything)? Ideally, there's a weak version that can be ignored by hounds or basic tracking spells, and a strong one that can even give them trouble. I'd swear I saw a writeup for a magic item, but I can't find it. Anyone have an idea for this?

I have an NPC with Affects Desolid for his STR. I had been assuming that included the ability to touch things that are desolid, but now I'm not sure... However, page 209 of 6th edition, volume 1, states that a character cannot buy Advantages or take Limitations for their standard Senses. Am I overthinking this? How would you suggest creating the ability, if so?

I once saw a character with a power that had a conditional limitation, “active points Ego x 3” -1/2. It was explained to me that the power limited the player from spending points on it to make it better, by placing a maximum active point cost that cannot exceed the characters Ego x 3. For example, a character has an Ego of 20, then the most active points the power could have would be 60. I believe it was on an VPP that was a focus. Has anyone ever seen or heard of something like this?

I'm trying to replicate the idea of the Sealed Advantage from GURPS 4e. Paraphrasing, Sealed means the character (or device) is: "encased in a layer impermeable to both gases and liquids, making you waterproof and immune to corrosive or toxic substances that have to touch you to affect you." According to the advantage write-up, you still need to breathe (no LS: Self-Contained Breathing), but whatever means by which you breathe is covered by the Sealed effect. You also get no protection from pressure differences (no LS: Safe In High Pressure, Low Pressure/Vacuum). Currently, the build I have is Life Support (Immunity To Corrosive Or Toxic Agent…

Ok so I want to have a campaign where you can attack someone's soul with mystical attacks as well as someone's body. So as an example let us say there is a martial arts master with secret chi techniques that don't do any physical damage but attack the EGO of the target. I was hoping to avoid the difficulty of using Drain to do this and just have an advantage that stated Attack does Ego Damage +xA where x is whatever the advantage should be in the campaign. The way I want it to work is to use EGO as a substitute for BOD. So the attack if a 1d6 killing attack does 1 to 6 body damage and 1d6 times that number in Stun. So average of 3.5 and 12.15 or…

As I look back at 4e and what was changed for 5e, I wonder what the effect of making some different design choices would have been. For example, Hand-to-Hand Attack. In 4e, HA cost 3 CP, which misaligned it with the DCs. So in 5e, the choice was made to up the cost to 5 CP, then back it out at the Limitations stage with a required -1/2 Limitation "Hand-to-Hand Attack." An unprecedented move in the design of a Power, AFAIK. Another choice would have been to make the cost 5 CP, but make HA require no END by default. That would have effectively built in a -1/2 Limitation to the previously 3 CP Power, getting us to the 5 CP cost we want so it can align…

In any system, there will be many things that make up the social network that exists under the surface. Most of these either were discovered or created by scientists in some form. Human health wouldn't be at the point that it is if not for people pushing for herbal, chemical, and other fields. Many other examples in every place of society that one desires to address. Even today, people need science and it was greater in a fantasy setting. Regardless of the period, how would one obtain the title of Ultimate Scientist? What skills would be required? Anything else that you would like to mention is greatly appreciated.

I apologize. This question seems obvious and it must have been asked, but a search didn't reveal it. If a character has Missile Deflection, can they use Martial Block to get that nice +2 OCV to make the attack?

There is someone rampaging through the city that another is defending. Exactly who is doing this rampaging and who is the defender? Both of these will need to be decided in each post for the next poster. In the current post, you will need to take the contestants given and state the nature of the battle, battlefield, and victor. Up first : Spiderman versus Blue Beetle

So, I was thinking (danger music queues into existence)... When I first learned to play Champions, I thought that the Body and Constitution characteristics were redundant. Why have both? I haven't given it much thought since then, but I was thinking, why not make Constitution do the work of Body too? The idea is if you take Body damage, the damage goes to Con. A negative Con value means you are dead (just like Body). Some possible benefits: As you take more and more Body damage, your Con lowers, showing an effect for the damage you have taken and making it easier for you to be stunned. In heroic level play, the loss of Con could …

Hello everybody, I'm an italian fan of Hero System and since years I'm trying to introduce the system in my rpg party but without success... a part the barrier of the language (I'm the official translator of the party) the main problem still remain the speed chart. My friends can't accept the complexity of this approach (even if I understand it's the best one)... and I was wondering if a well balanced alternative exists. Have you ever applied a different approach? Looking forward to read about your experience.

Why do you not like them? I am sure it has been considered by many but... I realy like the HERO way of doing vehicles, in fact I like them better than any other system I have played in except maybe the Pure War Gaming Systems. Bringing this up because of this thread http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=32414

Volume 1 pages 34 and 35 have guidelines for the different levels of power you can find in HERO, but I'm having some problems extending the table and would appreciate some input from the forum, if that's all right. Firstly, the ability guidelines seem quite loose to me, and I'd be interested in tightening them up. My first thought is to tie the rough power level to the expected DC of a standard attack. From there you could derive expected defences, and increased or decreased CV would adjust the damage dealt out or taken accordingly and factored in, along with SPD and everything else. With that said, how many points would you want, thereabouts, for a given DC? …

Exactly how would you build Rohan Kishibe's "Heaven's Door" powers? My guess is reading a person would be a "read only" Telepathy, and writing in a person's 'book' could be a Mind Control effect. Also, for skill creation that would be Transform (as he did for Koichi to have him speak Italian). Or would it? What do you think?
