Black Water, Green Death is an extended adventure seed in the same vein as Robert E Howard’s story Queen of the Black Coast and the “Sailing to the Past” segment of Michael Moorcock’s The Sailor on the Seas of Fate. Other influences include numerous tales of European explorers attempting to navigate the Amazon, Congo, Nile, and other great rivers. It features a detailed outline of events, as well as numerous optional encounters, rumors, and possible end game scenarios.

As many of you know DOJ INC - the parent company which owns Hero Games - has a logistics division that provides services to other companies. Its website is http://www.dojlogistics.com. One of the services we provide is the online sale of board, card, roleplaying games, and figurines on our client's behalf. As few if any of these products have any direct relation to the HERO System, we've set aside an exclusive section of our store for them. This forum has been created to allow us to announce when new products of this type become available. Feel free to aks questions, post reviews, and generally discuss these fine non-Hero products with others on the Discussion Boards.

Way back in the day there was a Richard Garfield card game called Netrunner. I loved it, but found it difficult to find others to play it with. I've often reflected back fondly upon it over the years as one of my all time faves. Recently my nearly-7 son has gotten into card and board games. He started off with pokemon, but has matured past that and has wanted to play some more advanced games. He's precocious (I wont be so immodest as to imply it is due to him inheriting vast uncharted intelligence from a parent bearing both an X and a Y chromosome), and usually does reasonably well even on games rated 14+ with a little guidance on the trickier bits. We…

Baour: Strands of Death is a fantasy courtroom novel by European RPG critic Dirk Vandereyken. It is published by Blackwyrm Books. In a small village, a necromancer stands trial. At the center of the universe, the Spider that wove All watches intently. Webs are spun in the courtroom, of magic, of lies, and of scandal. A modern classic from Gorilla Games. Battlestations is a simultaneous ship-to-ship combat and boarding action board game with light role-playing. You and your friends each play the role of a crew member on a starship that faces whatever grief the referee throws at you. You blast enemies, pull outrageous maneuvers, unlock the secrets of alien cultures, and crank the last bit of juice out of an overtaxed engine while trying not to get yourself, your crew, or your starship blown to bits in the process. Battlestations is available from the store here under Non-HERO Products.

This free download contains the opening chapters of five books Blackwyrm published in the first half of 2009. BlackWyrm specializes in speculative fiction (fantasy, science fiction, and horror) by undiscovered talent. First up, comes The Vast White by Jason Walters, the first book in the Murderer’s Edge trilogy. This fantasy book is written in the form of military transcriptions, by an unwilling journalist with contempt for his audience and a gonzo mentality. Second is The Rainbow Connection by Ian Harac. An FBI agent finds a dead Munchkin in a suspect’s apartment, and must travel to the land of Oz to investigate. Oh, and people are trying to kill him, of course…

You’re way past glass beads and plastic chips for your gaming counters. You’re ready for something bold and striking, a counter that screams “yes, that’s my game information being tracked right there thank you very much!” Something that sparkles in the light like the beads of perspiration forming on your opponent’s brow as you brush aside their puny efforts aimed at defeating you and prepare to crush them once again.... Okay, you probably don’t take your CCG, CMG, or other gaming that seriously. And you probably haven’t given too much thought about the counters you use for your gaming. After all, your choices have been pretty limited until now. Introducing Cryst…

He has exposed The Cainite Heresy, and dug up the Secrets of the Ruined Temple. He has broadcast the Suppressed Transmissions, and ventured through Infinite Worlds. Now, horror heresiarch Kenneth Hite, the author of GURPS Horror and Nightmares of Mine, assembles the Dubious Shards of the Cthulhu Mythos! Among the blasphemous contents herein: * An examination of the Cthulhu Mythos, and how to discover it for games and storytelling. In-depth explorations of Dagon, Irem, Dunwich, and other Lovecraftian topics. * Critical essays on the politics of horror fiction, and why John Wayne would have played Call of Cthulhu. * A never-before seen original Del…

Dwarf Stones is an ultra-streamlined fantasy wargame cross-bred with an abstract strategy game. Players start with a fort in one corner of the board. They slowly add armies and spread out across the board (on a defined point-to-point network) to take over mines which allow them to produce gems (which must be transported back to the fort to be useful). Gems may be used to spawn extra units or gain combat bonuses. The game includes defensive terrain bonuses, very simple supply line rules, and stacking limits. Players are eliminated when their fort is taken. Last man standing wins. The game components are a set of glass beads to represent armies and gems and a roll…

From master game designer Ron Edwards: "Basically, elfs are scum. They are not ethereal and wise; they are dim-witted, opportunistic little bastards. Their demeanor is that of a 13-year old powergaming munchkin: Kill, loot, party. Repeat. When not in the throes of one of their mental handicaps, elfs run across the world, hacking and slaying for fun and profit. You play one of these losers and try to get your grubby little hands on as much loot as elfinly possible, preferably while hosing your buddies." - Ron Edwards "Suffice to say that our elfs made some extremely dubious moral choices, and came out smelling like roses. Afterwards, my players spent a while…

This is a two-player game that uses a checkerboard-style movement grid. In addition, each player has a large "village" spot on their side of the board that is connected to all four spaces in their back row. Players have seven regular "elf" pieces and one big "stone man" piece. (All pieces are glass beads or colored rocks.) The object of the game is to move all of your elves into your opponent's village. Players move one piece forward one spot on the diagonal matrix each turn. Two elves (one or two colors) may occupy a single space. If the stone man lands on an elf, it sends it back to the owner's village. The game components include a set of glass beads and po…

Gnome Crystals uses a 6x6 grid as the main playing area. Each player receives a bunch of little plastic pieces and 2 large ones (gnome crystals) with an irregular shape. The object is to score the most points by the time the game ends, which happens immediately when someone runs out of pieces to play. A point is scored by having a straight or diagonal arrangement of three crystals of the same color, and a large crystal as part of such an arrangement scores 2 points instead of 1. A line of 4 crystals scores twice, once for each "end" of the row. The game is played by rolling two dice, one for each side of the grid (rows and columns). After rolling the dice, the p…

Halley’s Hold’em™ is a dice based game of odds and luck something along the lines of some poker games in game play with a space casino theme. Players try to be the one with the most star credits by the end of the game. Jason's Note: I enjoy playing 3Sages various "board" games (they're actually cloth mats), especially when I'm traveling, drinking at a bar, or when we don't have enough people at our local game night. One of the great things about this game is that it comes in a "Bags-O-Fun" playmat that you can wear as a pouch or tuck up in your vest pocket. Highly recommended. This product is for sale in the Hero Store here.
