For those who know, Alter Ego Software closed shop. They took everything off Drivethrurpg and everything. You may still get updates if you have MetaCreator, but support is minimal.

This is a free pdf on drivethrurpg. The author basically reversed engineered the books from the ODD (Little Brown Books), D&D B/X, BECMI and AD&D 1st. Margins, table strokes, layout, etc along with what fonts were originally used as well as alternatives. Included is the PDF of his findings as well as InDesign files setting up Master Pages for the different layouts.

I know it's kind of crazy to ask given that I have the Hero Designer and I can print Character sheets out, but sometimes a PDF form fillable character sheet is easier when I use the Designer to create my character first. The problem is that I have ran across a couple of such sheets but they are both bad. One adds up speed incorrectly. It rounds the number when it clearly says in the book not to. So that one is out. The other is by Wayne Peacock and it seems fine but I find that it does some thing with Strength. It's not a whole number and in some cases the stats can be off by one. I'm not a GM so this is my character I have tried searching via goo…

I found a character sheet in the resource section that was pretty close to what I was looking for as a Play sheet for CONs and Intro Games. Essentially sheet that leaves out all points and give general text boxes for entering info. The one I found that was Fantasy Hero Character Sheet form beta2.pdf Beta2 in the HERO System 6th Edition Documents section. I’d like to upload my 5th Ed version to HERO System 5th Edition Documents and wanted to touch base with the original poster and get their OK to do so. I went back to grab the name of the original uploader, and noticed it was uploaded by “By Guest” with no additional links to contact them I thought I’d pos…

I would love to see an app that would output a character sheet in a smudgy, old-school format: PS: This sheet actually belongs to a poster here named culhwch, I think

Hello all, I'm looking for some advice. I'm an experienced Hero gamer going back to the 80's and lookin to launch a pulp campaign online game with my friends scattered across North America. I'm looking for an online experience that can: provide an online chat with audio and video capability ability to share maps and layouts, I would be uploading PDFs... fog of war would be really nice lol tokens or character pictures, also that I can upload, to allow the players to move their characters on the map share content such as player handouts and character sheets What I don't really need: dice roller - I can use one online or use the Hero …

Back in the 90's, when my group would play the game where ever we could, it was tough to roll 12 to 15d6 on a McDonald's table. I came to the rescue with a little program called Diceroll.exe (at least I think that was the one). It printed a chart on an 8.5 x 11 sheet that had a percentile to roll instead of the die sixes. It listed Body and Stun for 1d6 for I think up to 30d6. I still have the program, but I need a computer with DOS. I don't have one and even if I did, I'm not sure it would connect to a USB printer. (Serial Ports and all) Players would probably find Hero Systems Mobile. From that they can just tap the button on the screen. Yet. No…

I have a 5th edition Excel Character sheet that is dated 2007 and I assume I got from here because there is a link to this site in it. As far as I can tell any other character sheets do not exist on the site before 2013. I have done a search for 5th edition character sheets and there is only one. The one that I have is basically a beta version and is superior to the one that is on the site (no offense to the person that uploaded it). But I am just wondering what happened to the file or files 6 years previous. Would the owner ask to have it removed? I was hoping to find an updated version, but sadly no such luck. There is a link in the file but that is over 13…

Currently I am running a game online and we are using Epic Table which has mostly meet our needs. It is a bit clunky and has a single developer maintaining it. I have been looking at a wide variety of other VTTs to use. I have looked at all the big names - Roll20, Fantasy Grounds, Maptools, etc. A while ago I found Tabletop Simulator on Steam. I was fascinated with the possibility of 3D rendered terrain and figures, shared sound (effects and music), and what seemed to be a big community working on free assets. I didn't buy it because I didn't want to spend the $20 on an experiment. Now it is on sale and I picked up a license. A quick list of …

I'm flipping through these as well as a few comic trades I picked up from the Waco Library. Book Design made Simple is a run through of using Adobe Indesign to set up your books files. I'm only 2 chapters into it, still setting up InDesign. 480+ pages with a companion website. I would say it comes off as pretty complete, my only issue is that it relies heavily on InDesign. [$59.95 USD (OUCH)] Making Books is exactly that. From what tools to use to how to set up different types of stitching. I'd suggest this one if your diy'ing your rpg books from pdf. $35 at around 190 pages.

Hello, I'm in the early process of attempting to make a Power Creation tool for a friend. We'll see how it goes.... My question is, when creating a Power Stat Block, how much would be needed for display? I attached an image of where I'm at with the tool. Still need to do Adders as well. If anyone can point me to a document or reference, I would appreciate the help! Thanks Todd

I never really played many of the old D&D computer games but I’ve heard good things about both Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale. Are they worth picking up for Mac? Anything I should know about them? Any feedback would be great. Thanks.

Hi all, Question: Could someone please provide me a link to either a video or online article showing how one, after subscribing to Roll20 for $$$, sets up a Roll20 game to have HERO support, add hexes, etc? I'm looking for a one stop shop rather than watching/reading several sources and having to collate knowledge. Basically, a Primer before I dive into 50 volumes of encyclopedias, or the equivalent. Thanks in advance!!! Background: I once played one session of Champions in Roll20 with a GM who must have had the right subscription package because the HERO character sheets were in his game …

So, thanks to Corvid, my group will be meeting online from now on. So I need a decent program to run combats online. Mostly I want some thing easy to use and learn, preferably free. It doesn't have to be fancy, just have a map an figs. I have the tts app for Hero and it is incredible, but none of my players have tts and I think learning it will be more time intensive than I can/they will spare.

As we approaching the release of the Mod I thought breaking off a new topic focused on the Mod itself would be wise. Here is an update on the current benefits of the Hero System Mod for Tabletop Simulator. Import from Hero Designer Onscreen Combat Record with sections for: - Primary and Secondary stats Movement types Distance/range finder Ability to alter stats Skills list Maneuvers/ Martial arts list Locational hits Quick dice roller Custom Dice Roll list with roll editor. Where possible all of the above allow the "Click to roll" Dice rolls and modifiers for: - Stat rolls Sk…

I don't know how many people here are prone to order custom miniatures online, but the design software for Hero Forge fanally offers a set of mechanical wings. Not the style I would have chosen for a first offering but acceptable.

So I’ve downloaded the Bard’s Tale games from XBox game pass and I’ll be diving into them tomorrow. It’s been forever since I’ve played Bard’s Tale one so I’d like to ask for any advice on party design that will hold up through all three games. In addition I was wondering if there would be any interest in my posting a “Where I Play” of my games. What day you Herodom?

Has anyone tried using MapForge to create battlemaps for their Hero System games? The app supports hexgrids, and has both Modern Day and Sci-Fi mapping assets available for it (or you can use your own art via drag-and-drop), and there's a selection of content that can work with any genre. Many of the content Add-Ons are free, and there are more on the way (hopefully more Modern Day content, in particular). Maps made with the app can either be printed, or used in the virtual tabletop software of your choice.

Hi all, As the title mentions i am in search for a Hero System ruleset for Fantasy Grounds. There is one in development (in the last years), but it has not been published from Blackfoot. Are there any alternatives? If no, i would suggest for the Fantasy Ground users to add our voice in the Fantasy Ground forum: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?20112-Champions-HERO-System-Ruleset-FG-3-0/page29 so that we can acquire the necessary user base for this project.

I am not affiliated with this product, I am not a spam bot I just thought others might like it or it might help them in brainstorming ideas for gameworlds Want to spin a fantasy world , play with the biomes, put some cultures on it, watch them form nations and then see how they destroy each other as centuries progress? It's limited in downloads and erases your world after 30 days if you don't have a paying membership, but I have to admit this thing is addictive. So far I'm just using the free option myself. https://ui2.worldspinner.com/
