    Create a Hero Theme Team!

Herocles, the world's strongest man, is really Barney Strife, a rail thin man, who happened to gain a collection of artifacts resembling souvenirs from the Twelve Labors. CES

Yeah Supermodel seems too obvious. She is the doyenne of the Jet Set, she is Supra-Model ! As famous for her magazine covers and features as she is for crime fighting, Supra-Model can fly has greater than normal strength, endurance and agility. She is somewhat bulletproof but not fully so. She can play at being a ditz as it can sucker the villains into overconfidence and then she can take them down.

    Supers Image game

For years, MegaLass was your standard flying brick - super-strong, incredibly fast, and able to survive the toughest attacks with nary a problem. Then, she discovered she can duplicate. While her duplicated form is less powerful than her combined form, all of them are still fairly formidable, and there's something to be said for being your own little super-team. (There used to be eight MegaLasses, but one was lost in action when Mechanon self-destructed one of his robot assembly bases.)

Becca Monroe was your average model. On a photoshoot one day for a line of superhero-inspired fashion outfits, she was abducted by a group of aliens searching Earth for superheroes to help them with there planetary warlord problem. When it became apparent that she possessed no special powers, instead of taking her home or destroying her, they gave her some using a method which only works on humans. When she returned, she returned as Wonderbecca (what? Were you expecting her to be called Super Model? That just plain crazy.) Now she fights for justice and truth between photo shoots.

After three months at home on sick leave after the surgery, am I about to get my arse back into work! The hardest part, I suspect, will be getting used to not wearing that darn thoracic support vest-harness-pillow all the time.

The opposite of a tautology is doublespeak. Anyone else read Marc Stiegler's Brain Trust books? Politically not as much of a reach as one might fear. Trump sees the world through blinders, and thinks no one can do anything to retaliate. What scares me more, tho, is that his approval ratings remain so high. And THIS is why the whole alt-right aspect is scary. Perhaps they don't have the public support...but they have the climate planted, watered, weeded, and maintained by Trump working in their favor to grow behind the scenes, like any other noxious and toxic weed.

    Legion of Substitute Supervillains

Madame Patissier Her power is to create, en masse, the pastry of your dreams...be it a simple glazed or fancy maple bacon donut, eclair, or even an elaborate napoleon or torte. And the Mind Control that locks your attention on the savory, luscious delight, so you can do nothing but savor its taste, its texture...you always want just that one more bite, and it's always there....... All while she clears out the jewelry cases and cash register, lifts a wallet or two, and saunters off completely undisturbed. The cops particularly dislike her because her donuts, of course, trigger their fundamental Psych Lim.

But not content to leave well-enough alone, he decided to branch out into lightly armored suits and acid-based weaponry. Not being as good with chemicals as he thought he was...well, let's just say there was an accident. And a lot of vomit. Then a lot more vomit. Then it started really getting gross when Mr. Stanley couldn't stop...for days. When he finally got himself under control, he'd found a good use for his newly patented Slides-Right-Off fabric coating. The money from his patents and sales are well-separated legally (and internationally) from his criminal activities so that the US justice system can't stop or seize his businesses or money. And Stanley has taken to challenging random superheroes who have a code vs killing so he can use their battles as infomercials for whichever gadgets he is field-testing that week (notifying the media in advance of the confrontation and prominently mentioning his products by name during the fight) . He's even done the same thing to a couple of supervillains, who have taken the experience of battling The Regurgitating Man with just as much grace and aplomb as you might expect.

Flags and emblems in science fiction

Here are three emblems from the Alpha Centauri system in my Star Hero setting. Two of the three refer to Alpha Centauri being a trinary star system: A, a yellow star a bit brighter than the Sun; B, a cooler and dimmer yellow-orange dwarf; and C, or Proxima, a red dwarf star so faint and distant from the other two that it wouldn't be visible from any planets around the other two. Nevertheless, being trinary is part of the system's "brand," for lack of a better word. Hestia is the most populous world. Its emblem is actually that of the dominant society, which has a strong American influence. There are several other large cultures, though, and numerous small ones. Poseidon, the next planet out from Alpha Centauri A, is a waterworld, the result of it formind deficient in radioactives elements to maintain mantle heat. Nobody planned to settle it; colonization happened through a typo that nobody cared enough to correct. Blue for the world-ocean, the three stars for Alpha Centauri, and the trident for the planet's name. The Centauri Belt Alliance occupies an asteroid belt around B, where a planet was prevented from forming by tidal disruption from A. It's a no-frills design, black and white, with the initials CBA and little stars to represent the asteroids. These are rougher than the preceding. At the time I designed them I never got past scanning the pen-sketch originals. For this I just colored them in. And why circles instead of rectangular flags? They're based on NASA mission patches: the ones I remember were circular. My assumption is that these mission patches were more influential in early space colonization than the classic flag. After all, no air in space to set a flag fluttering and looking flaggy. So even when planets were settled, the official form of the government emblem often remained the circular patch. Reward players' cool ideas. If they voice ideas that are cooler than your planned adventure ... go there.
  18. 1 point
If the players are not following genre tropes you want them to follow, this is often because you are penalizing, rather than rewarding, them. Design the game around how you want it to play out. Examples: "My players always try to kill the villains". When they don't, the villains escape and make their lives miserable. "My players distrust everything to the point of paranoia." Everyone they trusted has betrayed them. "My players never show restraint." If they do, the villains take the opportunity to crush them into the dirt. Ensuring you and the players are on the same page about the game is important in any game, but even more in Hero where the game can be varied so markedly.

Turnaround, every now and then I get a little bit lonely And you're never coming round Turnaround, every now and then I get a little bit tired Of listening to the sound of my tears Turnaround, every now and then I get a little bit nervous That the best of all the years have gone by Turnaround, every now and then I get a little bit terrified And then I see the look in your eyes Turnaround bright eyes, but every now and then I fall apart Turnaround bright eyes, every now and then I fall apart And I need you now tonight And I need you more than ever And if you only hold me tight We'll be holding on forever And we'll only be making it right 'Cause we'll never be wrong together We can take it to the end of the line Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time (all of the time) I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks I really need you tonight Forever's gonna start tonight Forever's gonna start tonight Once upon a time I was falling in love But now I'm only falling apart And there's nothing I can do A total eclipse of the heart Once upon a time there was light in my life But now there's only love in the dark Nothing I can say A total eclipse of the heart Turnaround bright eyes, every now and then I fall apart Turnaround bright eyes, every now and then I fall apart And I need you now tonight (and I need you now) And I need you more than ever And if you only hold me tight (and if you only) We'll be holding on forever And we'll only be making it right ('cause we'll never be wrong) 'Cause we'll never be wrong together We can take it to the end of the line Your love is like a shadow on me all of the time (all of the time) I don't know what to do and I'm always in the dark We're living in a powder keg and giving off sparks I really need you tonight Forever's gonna start tonight Forever's gonna start tonight Once upon a time I was falling in love But now I'm only falling apart And there's nothing I can say A total eclipse of the heart A total eclipse of the heart A total eclipse of the heart Turn around bright eyes

I have a dream, a song to sing To help me cope with anything If you see the wonder of a fairy tale You can take the future even if you fail I believe in angels Something good in everything I see I believe in angels When I know the time is right for me I'll cross the stream - I have a dream I have a dream, a fantasy To help me through reality And my destination makes it worth the while Pushing through the darkness still another mile I believe in angels Something good in everything I see I believe in angels When I know the time is right for me I'll cross the stream - I have a dream I'll cross the stream - I have a dream I have a dream, a song to sing To help me cope with anything If you see the wonder of a fairy tale You can take the future even if you fail I believe in angels Something good in everything I see I believe in angels When I know the time is right for me I'll cross the stream - I have a dream I'll cross the stream - I have a dream
