  1. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Don't expect too much from the TV show. It's marginally entertaining, but it doesn't capture the magic (excuse the pun) of the books. The characters don't match the ones in my head. I thought it just might be me, but every Butcher fan I talked to has said the same thing. As for the books, I'm planning on investing in cryogenics so I don't have to wait between releases.

Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... From our last Valdorian Age game: The PC's come upon a bridge attended by bandits who offer to escort them across for a nominal fee. Brego the Barbarian's player OOC: This is a cheesy line, but I've always wanted to say it. Brego: Certainly. Do you accept... pain!?! *promptly tackles lead bandit* *********************** Less of a quote than a mishap of the night: The PC's hear an elderly woman runs a bed & breakfast just outside town. Marcus knocks on the door and waits patiently. As the door opens, Brego, thoroughly in his cups, rolls all 3 points of his Unluck, announces "I don't think she heard you", and using his full STR (Brego has Psych Lim: Doesn't know his own strength), "knocks" on the poor woman who just answered the door. She crumbles, spilling flaming lamp oil all over the floor. Brego then attempted to urinate the flames out as the other PCs scrambled for blankets.
  3. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... We're starting a Valdorian Age game, so one of my players has been re-reading Howard's Conan stories, and I've been brushing up on Leiber's Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser.

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... From our first Valdorian Age game: Brego (barbarian): I say we just break open the door and slaughter all of these guys. Marcus (swordsman): That's not a good idea. Do you see all those stick-like thingies with the string thingies between them? Brego: *pause* I know what a bow is!

Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... From Friday’s Jedi Academy campaign: Jedi Knight Verra Fortuna (no relation, it’s like “Smith” with Twi’leks) just delivered two disabling wounds to a Dark Jedi’s arms. Verra: Throw down your arms and come with us! I gave Verra's player +2d6 to her Presence Attack for that one.

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... A player reminded me of one from an Alternity Hero game last year. The team has just "retrieved" a Thuldan double agent known to be a mindwalker. Dimitri: I think we can trust him. Elliot: Tell me that again when he melts our brains.

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... I see no shame in borrowing from Dresden. But I may only be saying that because I've done it. I swear the Temple Dog was only around for one adventure

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... From a more-fun-than-expected post apocalyptic Devil May Cry style campaign: “What’s the difference between a Quasit and an Imp?” Kallthor the Demonologist (upon miserably failing his second KS: Demons roll of the night): Uh, um, Quasits… are crunchier… and Imps like to hide their valuables in unsuspecting travelers’ rectums. Diego: *sigh* Everyone go check your rectums while Kallthor cracks open a grimoire. Nash: This guy’s not fooling anyone. We all know his real name's John.
  9. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Currently re-reading my favorite Sci-fi; Hyperion.

  11. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Actually, I'm familiar with the area. My best friend lives there, and I spent *cough cough* years at WCU.
  12. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... [threadjack] I see you live in Arden. I'll be moving to Asheville in a few weeks. Howdy Neighbor. [/threadjack]
  13. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Good choice. American Gods is IMHO Gaiman's best work to date. I also recommend Neverwhere, and if you can find the movie Mirrormask, it's worth a look.
  14. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... I’ve recently discovered Jim Butcher’s Dresden Files. I’m on Book IV, Summer Knight now. Great urban fantasy. It’s heavily influenced my Vibora Bay campaign. Also in the urban fantasy department, I highly recommend Stephen Zielinski’s Bad Magic. I haven’t laughed out loud so much since Good Omens.

Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Very well. I’ll inject some context, and everyone can decide on their own, how funny it is. The PC’s were all Entangled in DEF 12 globes. The Brick (named Brick) with his AP STR was the only one able to escape. He enjoyed the exclusivity so much he kept making excuses to do other things rather than free the rest of the PC’s. Thus his dilly-dallying got him chastised: “Hey! Quit stalling and smash our balls!†At least it’s not you-had-to-be-there funny.
