A Thread For Random RPG Musings

I was thinking of a less-than-lethal pit trap for the low level portion of a D&D adventure, but this could easily be used in other systems. While exploring a cave occupied by ruffians/bandits/harriers/raiders/et cetera, the PCs come across a smaller side room that usually houses one of these persistent foes (though it is uninhabited at the moment); in the room is an assortment of items including clothes and pieces of fabric strewn all about the ground. Underneath an uninteresting drab square of cloth are four boards of thin wood across a hole into a shallow hollow used as a latrine; when the smell within started to become noticeable, the fellow in this room slid the boards over the hole and draped the cloth over them in an attempt to impede the worst of the stink.

The wood is nowhere near strong enough to support the weight of a full-sized human or humanoid; anyone trying their luck - intentionally or otherwise - will suffer a short fall (as in, ten feet or less) and, therefore, minimal real damage...but everything up to their lower legs will be soaked in an aged slurry of feces and urine. Unless the unfortunate soul cleans the affected portions of their body and/or removes any soiled clothing, they'll not only find acts of stealth difficult if not impossible, but normal interactions will decidedly not go in their favor.
