I believe he means the Russian superhero movie by that name, which I enjoyed a great deal.  Excellent action, and the first Russian speedster I've ever seen.

There is only one scene in that movie that worked for me.

I have managed to see a top 20 of what I believe are the films on the Rotten Tomatoes list. But the original list goes to 31 so could someone please list 21-30 as Punisher Warzone is no 31.

Films have to be reviewed by a certain number of critics before it can be put on the list. It specifically mentioned the 1990 Captain America film didn't make the list because it wasn't reviewed enough, not because it was good enough to be left off the list.

There are certain films that get a lot of flak. Waterworld was certainly one. But Daredevil is definitely another.

 

However the 1990 Captain America film should definitely be on the list even if we have to hogtie a whole bunch of critics into watching it.

I never understood the hate for Daredevil. Sure, it has flaws, but it was one of the earliest superhero movies to be filmed in comic-book style and imagery. Some parts are very well done IMHO. The scene where Matt can visualize Elektra from the sound of rain falling on her is hauntingly beautiful.

It's encouraging for any new Fantastic Four movie to note this Captain America precedent, that the taste of even the worst interpretation of an entertainment property can be rinsed away when a new one is made by talented people who understand and care about it.

I was thinking it was made so the studio could continue to hold the rights, like later properties Marvel had sold off, and that the studio had pulled it before theatrical release. But I'm not a big "behinds the scenes" movie buff to know a lot of trivia.

 

Edit:

Wikipedia says the film rights swapped studios in mid-production and had multiple re-writes (makes you wonder how bad the versions were which never made it to film).

 

After the film was finished, it was held for two years with the theatrical release date being pushed back repeatedly. It was finally released in the US as direct-to-video with no theatrical release. Internationally, it had a limited release in theaters.

I still think Roger Corman's unreleased Fantastic Four film is the best FF film, but that's damning it with faint praise.
