Please Rename My Characters

This is a strange request but, I have a team of superheroes who consist of 6 women and one man.  The team's great embarrassment is that a novel obviously based on them portrays the ladies as his harem.  They aren't.  Two of them are lesbians, one is apparently asexual (although it's hard to tell since she only communicates through nods, headshakes and shrugs), one is happily married to a civilian and the other two are his mother and sister.  The novel started out as fanfic and was then rewritten to be lawyer-friendly.

Now the "real" heroes are respectively:

Olympia:  Shoots lighting bolts, teleports with a bright flash and boom, forcefield

Amazonia:  Super strong and super fast, a bargain basement Wonder Woman.

Enigma 7:  Completely covered in a super-zentai suit that enables her to be wall-crawl or be slippery, and become nearly invisibly camouflaged.  Strong but not nearly as strong as Amazonia.  Martial artist and contortionist. Apparently mute.

Scarborough Faire:  A magician who can reshape and animate physical objects as well as shrinking things, and deflecting attacks with "spatial distortion."

The Blonde Fury:  A woman who isn't as fast as Amazonia but the more damage she absorbs, the angrier, larger and stronger she gets.

Briar Rose:  A gymnast armed with wrist weapons that shoot needles which can paralyze people or scramble electronics.

Finally the man is Fulcrum:  He can reshape the human body by touch.  This includes boosting or reducing physical strength, durability, and movement speed, altering physical appearance, and healing physical trauma.  He keeps the precise nature of his power secret from the public but he's the source of half of his sister's strength and also boosts his own strength.  Still his team mates do most of the frontline fighting while he is kept in reserve to provide them with healing as needed.

Now here's the request.  What did our fanfic author rename the ladies as?  I'm having difficulty thinking of the new names because I'm too invested in the names I've already thought of.  I know his version of Fulcrum is named "Nexus".

Not bad, Tjack.  Here are my suggestions--

Olympia and Amazonia are partners in the fanfic.  Their names are--Thunder Woman and Lightning Speed, Guardians Of The Greater Good!

Enigma 7 becomes--Nemesis, Enemy Of Evil!

Scarborough Faire becomes--Magik-Maker, Mistress Of The Arcane!

The Blonde Fury becomes--Maxi-Maiden, Towering Power For Justice!

Briar Rose becomes--Silver Stinger, Precision Instrument Against Crime!

Hope that helps.

Okay, let's see what comes to mind.

Regarding Olympia, the name plus her apparently electrical powers sound like they're meant to evoke Zeus. In that case I'd consider something similar from a different mythology. I'm thinking of Vajra, the weapon of the Hindu storm god Indra.

In a similar vein, I think Tjack is onto something by looking at warrior women from another mythology; but "Valkyrie" sounds a little too on-the-nose, since the character's name isn't "Amazon." A comparable permutation would match more closely. How about Valkyrian?

For Enigma 7, something containing Kryptos, the Greek word for "hidden," could be an appropriate name.

I think I'd exchange Briar Rose for something non-botanical, but with similar implications. What do you think of Barbed Wire?

Translating the Blonde Fury to something close sounding, like Red Rage, might come across as a bit too precious. But from your description, I immediately thought of Femme Fatale.

"Scarborough Faire" is a stylish name. For that I would want to look at an archaic noun with similar implications of entertainment. I would suggest Jongleur.

Names...

Olympia: Her new name should suggest someone who would be victorious in contests.  So...Nike (after Athena Nike, goddess of victory) comes to my mind. A little less focus on her electrical powers (but she still has them), and more on physical abilities.

Amazonian: If you don't mind another culture, one could try 女强人 (Nu Qiangrin  or Strong Woman). Ok, I was inspired by the fact that in english the "Village of Strong Women" in the Ranma 1/2 series is called "China Amazon Village".

Enigma 7: Well, I have to say Mistress Mystery . She is probably portrayed as a magical domanatrix, with all her equipment being magical based as opposed to technology.

Scarborough Farier: I see her under the name Carnival . She pretends to be magical, but instead all of her 'magic' is of high technology. Think the DC comics villain Abra Kadabra as a female superhero.

Fury: She becomes a calm woman called The Pacifier. The calmer she is, the stronger she becomes. Quite the opposite of her real game counterpart.

Briar Rose: Taking the Sleeping Beauty fairytale route, she becomes Dreaming Lilybelle. She uses a herbal toxin which induces sleep in others (and she is totally immune to), and seems to be in a semi-sombatic state (much like she is constantly sleepwalking, but is aware of her environment).

I'm partial to Tjack's names - a fanfic writer would probably come up with something close enough to the original to be easily recognized, while being *just* different enough to avoid legal difficulties.  (I'm assuming the original heroes are player characters, so the fanfic knockoffs should be fairly blatantly obvious so as to better get under the players' skin.)  Lord Liaden's did similarly well in my mind, though I lean toward Tjack's as being a bit closer to the originals.

Heck, no reason to say you have to stick with just one person's suggestions.  Personally, I'd go with Tjack's Hera, Wicca, and Rage, and LL's Valkyrian, Kryptos, and Barbed Wire.

Your choices would be excellent ones for someone who wanted original names for their characters, but the setup was someone renaming already established characters for fan-fic.   So I kept the new names pretty basic and easy to connect with the old ones.

The problem is that you’re just too damn good.

Thank you very much for your assistance.

Hera is excellent for Olympia.  Tjack is right in that Vajra is actually too clever.

And yes, Valkyrian seems to fit for Amazonia.

I think for Enigma 7 just "Mysterious" is the way to go with credit to Steriaca.

Precious works for this guy (I mean the guy's writing borderline superhero porn), so Red Rage it is.

'

And yeah Carnival or perhaps Carnivale works for Scarborough.

Still wavering over the choice between Thorn and Barbed Wire.

WCW, your suggestions are very fun but I'd have to come up with another name for the guy because they are very Golden Age and not the kind of girls who would be hanging around with a guy named Nexus as his harem.  Perhaps they are the New Sentinels alternate universe counterparts
