Ragitsu
Hey there. I'm curious...in your games, how frequently are the PCs accompanied by NPCs and just how many of these NPCs - on average - are there? --- For my next campaign, I'll be adding a few personalities to the party in order to boost their survivability until they have a level or two under their belts. Below are the three NPCs joining the party. * A young buck from their town that wants to become a paladin. * A "war wizard" returning home after a lengthy tour; they fancy the scenic route and they aren't terribly choosy about their company. Said wizard is presently located in the starting region's center of trade. * A ranger tasked with escorting the PCs out of their territory. This wood-wise warrior is the last to be encountered. The adolescent is least capable of taking care of themselves while the two adults are roughly comparable to one another in terms of experience. --- Would you consider the above trio to be very reasonable, merely "acceptable" or too onerous? Christopher R Taylor
I have often had an NPC wizard along with a group because nobody played one, and we usually had a roaming backup PC named Bacis Tira around that anyone who was a guest could play to be part of the adventure. I think too many and its a bit of a pain to keep track of and run as a GM, plus you don't want the PCs to get too dependent on your characters. drunkonduty
I'm not seeing a need for the entourage in this case. Sounds like the PCs have enough oomph to deal with low level encounters. Remember you run the risk of overshadowing the PCs and the players if you give them a bunch of much more competent NPCs to hang out with.
