unclevlad
I'll admit it's not cheap, but I think it may interest some of you. Metal density's something that can come up. I have nothing whatsoever to do with the project, altho I might back it yet. I just think it's a cool visual exemplar. Pariah
Cancer
It's not playing on my machine here at home, but I'll try another machine when I'm on campus tomorrow. Density is something I teach in a number of my classes.

unclevlad
Ah, sorry. Should've realized my interests take me places not everyone goes... And I'm a little surprised it came up that way. For anyone interested, the project name is Density Cubes.

Pretty sure a pinhead is larger than 19.3 x 10^-13 cm^3. Still, I could bench that.

I was guesstimating. Almost wrote "couldn't see it without a high-power microscope"...but wasn't sure. Lessee..... Yeah...density estimate of a neutron star is in the range of 4-5 x 10^17 g / cc. So we're talking ~ 10^-16 cc, or a cube of about a micron on a side. Adequately small... This of course, begs the question, how many angels could dance on that cube? Cancer
If they're degenerate angels, far more than you would initially estimate. Pariah
Spence
That is so cool.... It is a bummer that I have literally no possible use and simply can't justify $160+ on it.
Pariah
I could justify a legitimate academic use for these. But there's no way my principal's going to go for 160 bucks on it.
Matt the Bruins
Would a sample of neutronium that small be stable, or would the immense pressure make it explode to a less dense state almost immediately? That could make for quite the spectacle!
unclevlad
I expect it couldn't be stable, and would explode. "Spectacular" might depend on how much was involved..."utterly devastating" seems more likely. Pretty sure "explosive power" is the measure of how much, and how fast, the material expands. How much? Gazillions of times. How fast? Microseconds...? I doubt anyone could predict the nature of the byproducts because this is SO far beyond anything we can model. EDIT: over 200 buyers. About half are getting just the new set of 5. Still thinking about it myself. Campaign still has 5 weeks to run. Funding goal will get met; they're at about 8x that level already.
