Christopher R Taylor
So if someone were to, say, set up a super basic campaign as a followup to Champions Begins, what kind of things do you think it should have? I'm thinking a neat base, a basic big city, a few useful NPCs, and a string of loosely connected adventures leading up to a finale. The PCs would be what players want to make, and the book could include super basic ideas on building characters. I'd like to see the Goodman tips brought back, too, stuff we vets all know but new players would find useful. They could even carry over Champions Begins characters if they want. The adventures maybe we could update and reuse some from the old Adventurer's Club magazines, for ease of construction. It shouldn't be too hard to find a few that relate somewhat and create a storyline that connects them, leading up to something. I mean it could be as basic as leading to The Island of Dr Destroyer, but that would require people to purchase an additional product, and I don't know if that would be ideal. steriaca
Prehaps the infamous "What Rogue Beast" should work. The adventure should have a nice laboratory and maze work location, and a monster hunt with a terrifying bear/spider hybrid monster. I believe Viper's Nest was used already for Champions Begins. With modern modifications of course. I never read What Rouge Beast, nor played in it, but the title and premise of the adventure is stuck in my mind. The perfect villain behind it would be The Great Beast. But he of course wasn't the original mad scientist behind the adventure. Honestly I don't remember any other adventure from the Occasional, err, Adventurer's Club. Scott Ruggels
If you do a city, try to proceed like Hudson City, with a colorful Rand McNalley sort of map, with all the streets freeways and important locations.
Christopher R Taylor
Honestly I'd really rather not have to build an entire city for a quick fun campaign but its probably necessary 😕 Its easy enough to do in one sense: just steal parts of existing cities and paste them together but still. Scott Ruggels
If it’s a one shot, you don’t need the city. But for a campaign, you need it. Also the details spawn campaign Ideas.
Mr. R
If you can get it San Angelo is a nice city and for a change is on the west coast!
Steve
For a city, you don’t need to be very detailed. Here are the docks, there is the city center region, the local university, and so on. Add more pieces to it and detail as needed for players. Call it Generic City or Everytropolis and start playing. Christopher R Taylor
Well that raises the question: should this be entirely self-contained, or require outside products besides the rules to run? That is, should it have everything you need in one package or have the campaign in the package, then require buying say, San Angelo and some Enemies books? Eventually they are going to have to add their own stuff. Be it enemies, cities, important NPCs, or whatever. It is best to simply provide a framework where others can build upon and call their own. (Also, some light adventures can't hurt any.)
Christopher R Taylor
Well the theory is for this to be a single self-contained story arc with a setting, for GM's to just buy and run as their first real Champions game (after doing Champions Begins, possibly). It would be a larger project, necessarily. And this time not free. Scott Ruggels
