Christopher R Taylor
Quote The heartbreaker is "Dark Champions replaced it," and Dark Champions isn't the ideal for 'normal guy with a normal gun doing normal guy things.' Yeah and I don't think Steve Long ever meant it to be, it just sort of leaned that way after a couple editions. There's a place for vigilante hero types in Champions, but there also is a place for modern adventure normals as well (or semi-normals, most characters Arnie and Stallone played weren't exactly human in their abilities). So did he use a fusion of sorts between Hero and Traveller for the game? Or was it more a style from DI in Traveller? No, it was straight Traveller. His campaign predated me meeting him, and he ran it while we both attended SAN Jose State University. If you want a bit of flavor of those D. I. campaigns he ran, Doug wrote a book. https://www.amazon.com/Remember-Them-Trade-Book-ebook/dp/B07ZPXZH6S/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=2SMTSGQQPOYUK&keywords=Remember+Them+book&qid=1672287934&sprefix=remember+the+book%2Caps%2C161&sr=8-1 It takes place in the 80s, and is decidedly not James Bond. It has very much the flavor of his D. I. games. BigJackBrass and Sketchpad
Arcturus
On 12/27/2022 at 6:55 PM, DentArthurDent said: “Espionage” was the original Hero Games spy concept. “Top Secret / S.I.” from TSR was a boxed set. “Mercenaries, Spies, and Private Eyes” was from Flying Buffalo games. I played them all ‘back in the day.’ MSPE was my favorite to flip through for game ideas. TS had the best backgrounds for James Bond type missions. Espionage had the best set of rules. (Of course.) So, we ported everything over to Espionage and had a blast trying to figure out who was shooting at us this week. Mercenaries, Spies & Private Eyes and Espionage (and Danger International) are available on DTRPG. There's also a new version of Top Secret on DTRPG. Tech
While going through a box of old Champions stuff, I found I still have the Danger International book (not pdf). I've held onto that for a long time. Sketchpad, Arcturus, Chris Goodwin and 1 other
