Almost put that as a guilty pleasure. The Rifftrax version especially is pure joy.

New day and I already am sure that I could easily change 3 or so of my choices ;) But I'll leave as is.

Looking forward to others sharing theirs

Yup, already wondering if I should have put Toy Story for my trilogy.

Toy Story as a trilogy is a good choice..

For me, the 'MOVIE THAT CHANGED MY LIFE:' category is one I had to think about. I mean, it's kind of vague. Jaws changed my life... I avoided the deep side of the swimming pool for over a year ;) More seriously, there have been years in my life where I was caught in very deep depression and a movie helped pull me out (The Greatest Showman was much needed in that regard) So that's a change. ...and then now and then there is a wisdom in a movie I must ponder.

I went with the Last Unicorn... because it's one I keep coming back to for new insights, old enjoyments. When I was young, I so understood Schmendrick's desire to be magical, to be really powerful and important. When I hit my late thirties or so, I looked back at what I had and hadn't done in my life, and I got WHY Molly Grue was so angry at the Unicorn at her timing, at her failure to live up to promises the world told us. And yet Molly still helped. Schmendrick was still an old friend, and I realized his desire for greatness didn't just arise from surrendering to magic, but helping others with their story. Older now still, I look at Haggard and Mama Fortuna as warnings... Haggard shows  how one can be so desperate to relieve his own misery he inflicts on others selfishly.  Mama Fortuna fascinates me.... "So that's MY immortality, eh?" For all her mockery of Schmendrick, she wants, like him, to be great. Better to be slain than forgotten and unimportant. Another warning I suppose.  Lyr is faith, and idealism, and a fool and a hero and a good man... and the story shows how essential those few like him are.

Some of this I knew even at a younger age academically, but I didn't understand it, didn't really grasp it, till later. The Last Unicorn, Movie and Book, has characters, small and large... that keep teaching me about the human condition, each their own lesson, each their own facet. As I am human, it often teaches me about myself too.

Which is why I picked it... every now and then, I watch it again and let it change my life just a little, or at least let me think about it.

This was a very hard one, and I'm not convinced that there's something I'm missing. The reason I chose Unforgiven is that this was the first movie I remember seeing where I couldn't stop thinking about it for a week. It really got in there. That was after just one viewing. Life changing? Debatable. But it sure got to me like few movies had before, or since.

Field of Dreams is a good alternative there. That really hit some hard emotional chords despite not being a big baseball fan.

I'm not a big movie watcher or fan, so I have to give some of these a pass. But other people's lists remind me of several movies I've enjoyed, so thank you all.

MOVIE I HATE: All the Marbles. Seen with friends because the movie we wanted to see was sold out. Absolutely dreadful waste of money and at least 90 minutes of my life.

MOVIE I THINK IS OVERRATED: Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Pretentious claptrap.

MOVIE I THINK IS UNDERAPPRECIATED: The Last Action Hero. I think many critics just couldn't keep up.

MOVIE I LOVE: Several, but I can't fix on "The One."

MOVIE I CAN WATCH OVER AND OVER: The Raven. Roger Corman production, with Vincent Price, Boris Karloff and Peter Lorre as rival wizards.

MOVIE THAT MADE ME FALL IN LOVE WITH MOVIES: I'm not in love with movies.

MOVIE I WISH I MADE: Nothing here.

MOVIE THAT CHANGED MY LIFE: Yellow Submarine. Saw it when I was very young; shaped my imagination from then on.

MOVIE THAT SURPRISED ME: Raiders of the Lost Ark was much better than I expect4ed.

GUILTY PLEASURE: Thermonuclear Dreams. Saw it only once, on TV, but one of the more enchantingly deranged low budget flicks I've seen. Runners up Eagle Shooting Heroes, a wuxia spoof, and Robot Monster. But how can I leave out Battle Beyond the Stars?

MOVIE I SHOULD HAVE SEEN BY NOW BUT HAVEN'T: So many. My brother even has copies of most of them, so it's not as if I can't get them.

MOVIE TRILOGY MASTERPIECE: Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Young Frankenstein. Not made as a trilogy, but Mel Brooks' decades-later spoof showed great affection for the originals. And more understanding than many "serious" versions of the story.

MOVIE MASTERPIECE: Fantasia, as something truly timeless. If civilization survives that long, I think people will still appreciate Fantasia a thousand years from now.
