NFL 2023

Funny but likely bogus.  Especially the lady on the left...she's well into her 70s by the visual cues.  Their last SB win was '95, so she'd have to have been in her, probably, mid-40's.  Not impossible...but not likely.

Now, I could see the Cowboys bringing back a couple from the *first* SB...that was the '71 season.  Or from multiple groups;  the lady on the right looks to be younger.  Perhaps the first Bronco SB collapse...that was the '77 season.

Soph year in college.  Weird year for me.  Honestly wasn't watching much sports at all;  MNF was perhaps the most common exception.  The campus Pizza Hut ran a deal, and had a BIG projection TV.  Place was generally PACKED.  Some games in the dorm's TV room, from time to time...but not so much, soph year, as freshman year.

Note that you're already conceding  that the defender was beaten in the first place.  Why should he get a break?

As I said, not a good example, as that defender was beaten. but how many of that type of PI have you seen that the defender wasn't beaten, maybe half step behind the receiver as they ran and the throw takes WR into the defender and causes PI because the defender didn't turn around.

Yeah, that happens too.  But whose responsibility is it?  You have to play the ball, that's the central rule.  The receiver is;  when the defender has no clue where the ball is, he isn't.

Also note that an intentional underthrow risks the defender turning around in time, and getting himself an EASY pick.

If Joe Burrow's out due to the wrist, on a non-contact play...one has to wonder if this was an issue for a while, from reports.  And if so?  Whether this is something in the wrist that went from "sore" to "failed."  I'm wondering if he's basically gone for the season, just on that basis.

Even if it's just a week or two, this is a major blow to their playoff hopes.

EDIT:  can put this one to bed early, 3 scores now.  Bengals fall to 5-5;  worse, 0-3 in the division, 1-5 in the conference.  Their only tie break advantage is with the Bills, and that may not hold up in a multi-way tie scenario.

Speaking of bloodbath, Beckham's getting his shoulder checked after that 50 yard gain...

Various youtube doctors are guessing Burrow has a torn TFCC ligament in his wrist, which would cost him ~4 weeks.  His backup played mistake-free football against the Ravens defense; the next four games should be less difficult.

Next up is the Steelers...and it's close to a most-win game.  The Steelers play the Browns;  winner goes to 7-3, loser to 6-4.  If the Steelers sweep Ohio, the Bengals are 3 back in the loss column with 6 to play.  If the Browns beat the Steelers, but the Steelers beat the Bengals, Cincy's 2 back, and losing tiebreakers, to both.

After that, it's the Jags, Colts, Vikes.  Who knows about these 3.

If it is 4 weeks, tho....well, gee, Burrow comes back just in time for Steelers redux...and KC.  Both on the road.  And end with the Browns.  The good news...KC will likely have clinched the AFC West, but may still be battling for the #1 seed.  Cleveland is the last game of the year;  with Watson out, and if they're out of the playoffs, they might mail that in.  Ya never know.  IF the Bengals can sweep those 3 mushy-middle games, it's possible this game becomes an elimination game.

The Donkeys get Minnesota and Cleveland in Denver and without their respective high-dollar quarterbacks the next two weeks. Win those two, and they're above .500 in November for the first time in forever.

Could it be? There's a part of me that's with Jeremy Renner on this:

Poor Joe.  Oh well...we Bengals fans are used to it.  50+ years without a superbowl....

Time to root for a high draft pick...like usual.

Think of it this way: next season, Burrow's wrist and calf will be healed.  But the Raiders will still be the Raiders.

Who is the LVP (least valuable player) on the Seahawks roster and why is it Dee Eskridge?

Dee, Skyy Moore, and Corey Davis have seen to it that the NFL won’t take any receiver from Western Michigan early in the draft for another 20 years.

Love Friday-before-game fanblog snark.

Seems like this is the season of addition by subtraction...knock out the starter, the backup plays better.  At leas for a little bit.

DeVito in for Daniel Jones...3 TDs, none gift-wrapped.  Shortest was 45, the other 2 around 60 yard drives.  He's 18/26 for 246 and 3 TDs, no picks...and this, despite getting sacked....

9 times

It's only early 4th but he's got them up 9.

I see where Eli's saying stay the course with Jones, and perhaps so, because that line is atrocious.

Heh...Kyler Murray underthrows a streak.  There's a PI call.

Against the *receiver* because the DB is in position and is looking back...prepared to make the pick.

EDIT:  Oh....well, that explains it.

Washington sacks DeVito 9 times....but commits 6 turnovers themselves, including a pick-6 that sealed the deal late, when they had a 1st and 15 at midfield, altho the clock was running down.

Ron Rivera's days are running short.  Home loss, to a league doormat in a divisional game.  #7 in the NFC right now is the Vikes at 6-4, so they're 3 back in the loss column...and the next 2 games are the Cowboys and Dolphins.  Heh...their victories are even worse than Cincy's.  Cards, Broncos, Falcons, Pats.

An ugly win is still a win.

3 turnovers is still worse than 4 red zone FGs.

Vikes lose an opportunity to keep the gap between the WC and non-WC teams at 2 games in the loss column, so they join the Chargers, Commanders, and Seahawks as teams that lost games they may well regret.

Broncos aren't a train wreck, but man, that offense still worries me.
