Old Man Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 Umbscurnox could easily be the kind of father that is perpetually annoyed by all the little people running around in his house. Or he could be that creepy uncle. Or everyone's third cousin once removed that just seems to appear at family functions without necessarily having been invited, and never really was the same after he came back from overseas. In the hush of deepest night, Shadows cradle, hold us tight. Darkness hides, a gentle cloak, Concealing us from hunting foes. Worries fade with dimming light, Darkness grants us sweet respite. He had to be plain. “Tom Neyman was in Manos: The Hands of Fate with Pat Sullivan, who was in It Happened Here with Frank Gardner, who was in All the Fine Young Cannibals with Robert Wagner who was in Wild Things with Kevin Bacon.” =============================== Tranvers secondary domain: Connections! Pariah Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 I am afraid that I need to announce my non-participation this time. I just don't have the mental bandwidth for something this complex right now. DShomshak Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 Oh hey, let's get an illo -- if not for Jarnvoldir, at least an image of his divinity. (There are lots of pictures of blacksmiths, but it may take a while to find one I like.) Dean Shomshak Hermit and Logan D. Hurricanes 2 Quote
DShomshak Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 As forges are usually imagined as needing nagtural materials to work upon, it would be easy and plausible for Jarnvoldir to be the son of Rethormathe. Unless we want to change things up, of course. In the Dwarven Pantheon I designed, the forge-god came first and it made all the other gods in its forge. (And all of them genderless. Dwarves use craft as their paradigm for creative power, not sex.) (But dwarves are not slated as Jarnvoldir's people. Too cleche.) Dean Shomshak A question for the Commissioner: Does the primary domain of the Forge automatically encompass the concepts of Metals and the Ores from which they are smelted? Or should I specify them as a secondary domain? Dean Shomshak Quote

DShomshak Posted July 2 Report Posted July 2 Moving out of the usual order, I decree Jarnvoldir's Gift to Civilization to be Technology. At least those that involve heat and metal. So, clockwork, steam, even diesel. Or rather, clockpunk, steampunk and dieselpunk! This will not be just another quasi0-Medieval Fantasy world. And it will shape more than one subsequent choice. Frommthe ringing of hammer on anvil to the grinding of gears and the hissing of steam, let the nascent World hear the music of Jarnvoldir! Dean Shomshak Pattern Ghost, Logan D. death tribble Posted July 2 Author Report Posted July 2 From the earth she created them. Yes they were ugly, ignorant and unwieldy. Superstitious and fearful. But also capable of great bravery and invention. Rethormathe breathed on the dust and called them forth. Oddly enough she gave them four limbs but only one pair of a visual apparatus and one pair for auditory apparatus yet only a singular device for smell and another for eating. The others could create as they wished but these would be the first. Sentient Race: Humans Logan D. Hurricanes, Hermit and Psybolt 2 1 Quote

Cancer Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 When sadness overwhelms the gods, the whole sky weeps and rain falls according to the trigger: sometimes in violent fury, sometimes in muted grey melancholy, sometimes in brisk salutary respect for that which is no more. Pooftah Blowhardt therefore claims dominion over Mourning, and patronage of mourners, that those who feel like they might not go forward after the loss draw healing and resolve to persevere in the diminished world and, maybe, create new glories in the wake of what was lost. Sociotard Posted July 3 Report Posted July 3 It is said that when Umbscurnox chose to emphasize his element of safety, the sweet slumber that concealing darkness permits, he cut off a piece of himself. The shadow of the shadow. That was the beginning of the Crawling One. Domain: prisons and confinement. Fauna: Spice Lice. The spice lice really only grow well on humans, and for the best flavor they must be kept cool, damp, and dark. Dried and ground ... they make the most delectable condiment.
