Logan D. Hurricanes
Many legends surround the legendary serpent called Gorgotha, the Colossal Serpent. Some say that it is so large that no living man or woman has seen the entire span of its length at one time. Others say that it could bridge The Canyon of Crose without help, though it has never done so. (That anyone knows.) What is known for certain is that he lives in the trees below and around Arboretia and he is committed by Tranvers to protect The Highest City. He is rarely seen, though, beyond a distant slithering through the branches. Locals have their own name for it in an ancient tongue and they regularly offer sacrifice to Kev’n Bak’n. Old Man
Mythic Monster or Guardian: The Creepusculan Composed of pure darkness, the Creepusculan can appear from any shadow at any time, anywhere on the world or in the heavens. It can remain incorporeal or solidify parts of itself at will, as appropriate to its purposes. Those purposes usually involve the protection of the innocent, the capture of evil sapients and giving them over to the Creeping One, or the conveyance of the fallen to the followers of Pooftah. Sometimes fearful people will try to drive the Creepusculan off using various light sources, only to find that it can extinguish light sources at will. The Creepusculan usually appears in humanoid form out of habit, but is fully amorphous and can form wings, tentacles, appendages, and orifices as necessary in order to accomplish its goals. It often does so especially when supporting Umbscurnox’s domain of Romance, and it is especially fond of interrupting the Sleep Paralysis Demon and converting its victims’ nightmares into something… more pleasant. There are rumors that the Woman in Black sometimes participates in these activities as well, but there is no proof to these rumors. Logan D. Hermit
When a group of laborers seeking to clean a train more quickly mixed Chloramine with an abundance of ammonia, well, it was not pretty. Worse, this sort of mistake was not uncommon. People who knew architecture weren't always around when someone decided to build housing, without understanding of HOW it worked, often found them ready to fall over like dominoes in a few years. Oh, Technology had been gifted to civilization, and there were many masters of their craft, but not all of them had the time or energy or desire to pass on their skills to others. Those who needed a particular type of tech might learn it, but then neglect languages or history, or the like. Some morons didn't know that not ALL gigagallus were domesticated and got eaten by flocks. If they studied the beasts, really studied them, they would have learned from... From whom? Someone had to teach them she supposed. Experience was a bit of a harsh tutor. Experimentation even rougher. They should at least give some basics on math, language, history, natural sciences, and yes, ethics damnit, to the young for a period of time. Honestly, something as simple as a Valvi elder saying to youngsters "Eat the gray mushrooms, but not the speckled ones" could help a village a lot! Really, the obvious need for this as a profession being ignored made her eye twitch. She tried to instill in some of her ethical teaching a sense of DUTY in those who knew that they should offer to raise up those who did not, but wanted to learn, to be their peers! It worked, kind of. A far too small percentage of the knowledgeable, skilled, and specialized discovered they rather liked sharing what they themselves had learned with others. Unfortunately for Kjósa, these ladies and fellows did want SOME societal recognition for their efforts, and what was the other stuff? Oh pay. They also saw themselves as equal to the shaman. One would say "They can teach you of the spirit world, WE can teach you of the world of the MIND!" Not a bad boast, really, Kjósa had to admit. And they seemed to pray to her a lot, which was nice. But then folks began to consider them HERS, and what they did to be a part of her own godhood. Yes, she had pushed for it, but... ah ,right, not even she was free from consequences, was she? Resigned to her duty, she accepted these "Teachers" as her own and Teaching as part of her purpose. The good news is the Teachers would surely be loved and respected by all societies and totally given a fair living wage commensurate with their hard work and sacrifice! Right? Cancer
Pooftah Blowhardt announces Their contribution to the stuff of that world, and that is a lightweight substance often called frostite or feathermetal. In places where the ground's surface sits largely undisturbed and not covered by water, fire, or living things, a substance seemingly condenses out of the air and accumulates as thin, uniform layers of a lightweight solid. In regions where winter and cold are common, the substance is called frostite, because its deposition is like that of frost. In warmer climes, it is called feathermetal, because the layers are as fine as the barbs of down feathers. It is the same substance from all areas. It could build up into layers of appreciable thickness before collection, or individual gossamer layers gathered individually. The material can be hammered and worked like common metals, but it cannot be melted by any fire yet ignited by mortals; when subjected to extreme heat, the bulk merely diminishes, as the substance sublimes away. When worked into forms via smithcraft, the metal is very strong and reasonably tough when subjected to blows, but exceedingly light in weight, and by careful working at temperatures below the freezing point of water it can be made flexible and remain in that condition after allowed to return to normal temperatures. When hammered into a sheet of metal, frostite looks like silver, but has a faintly lavender luster when polished. Without question, its greatest shortcoming as a metal is its hardness: it scratches easily, and when polished even light use dulls its appearance. The extreme lightness of frostite makes it all but unusable as armor: unless a handspan's thickness or more, the impact of a blow is simply transmitted uncushioned to the flesh underneath, though the sharpness of edges or points is blunted (in effect, the blows of swords, axes, and spears are made as they were blows from a club or mace). Nor does it take and keep an edge well, so it is difficult to put it to use in most weapons. (It can be worked into superperlative bowstrings, however.) The Nightflyers gather it and make it into baskets and carry-sacks, as the weight the members of that race can carry cannot deform the frostite at all, but it can hold volumes so large that the limits for the bearer are imposed by balance and bulk rather than mass. Other races have their own preferred uses for it (to go with frostite wire bowstrings), dependent upon their gifts and predilections. ========================= Pooftah Blowhardt, God of Winds and Weather Geography. the Blowhardt Zone, a band of latitudes without significant land but strong and nearly constant wind Sentient Life: Nightflyers, large sentient bats Gift to Civilization: the Soothfrost, appearance of which after the appropriate ritual verifies the responder has spoken the truth Fauna/Flora/Ore: Frostite Interference. Pattern Ghost
A HUGE parking lot, with no close spaces open, ever. Thousands of hectares of floor space! Air conditioned (slightly too cold, always blows on something it shouldn't.) Shops offering all manner of goods: fake jewelry, real jewelry at an elevated price, DRUM SETS, gag gifts!, cheap decorations, perfumes of all varieties, fine clothing (or clothing with fine prices), large food courts serving delicious delicacies (but not too hot, don't want to burn any tongues), and all manner of things. All of the peoples of the World come together in joyous commerce. Then there are the people. Lots of crowds of adolescent sentients, slightly older folk with their tiny, crying babies, friendly people offering perfume samples right as you enter some of the shops, lots of loud conversations, long lines of people for all of the restrooms.
