I wish I had those outlines. It always helps so much to have something to remind people what they are!

I have some old characters on those sheets (who I still throw at people in 5th ed), but I really wish I had those templates.

I found the 1984 Witherby ones. I know I have those sheets from the Champs II somewhere around here.

Hmm, found the Vipers Nest that was in the box set edition. Creeks & Crawdads, Macho Women with Guns outlines, lots of different characters, a Paranioa GM screen with Treason Accusation Form, etc...

This might take a bit. I'm a OFCL packrat.

There's still hope that I can find the first sheets. Mark Williams did those IIRC.

Woo! Just found the poster advertising the 1984 edition.

New ways to join the OFCL.

4. If you ever dialed-in to Red October BBS.

5. If you ever debated Champions/Hero System on rec.games.frp (not .misc or .superhero). Bonus points if you remember SeaWasp. Extra bonus points if you ever had a Champion ruling flame war with him:).

6. If you ever refered to Bruce Harlick as the new guy at Hero Games.

7. If you own a complete set of Adventure's Club magazine, which you bought new when they were released.

8. If switch from Superhero 2044 or Villian and Vigilantes to Champions.

So far: 1,2,3,5, & 7. Woo Hoo! it's not a perfect record! Though I remember 6, for #8 used V&V for the scenarios early on and still have the counters. "SeaWasp"? Why does that name cause a burning sensation in my brain?

I didn't do anything with Red October until it got civilized and hooked into the net. :)

though if you're going to add Red October,

9. If you joined the Hero Mailing list when it was hosted out of a machine at SGI.

Extra points if you remember what the purpose of the mailing list was at first.

First Character outlines

Success. Naturally they were in a completely different box. These are the sheets from the 1982 box set. I'll scan them in right now. I'll probably have to do a little bit of clean up, but that shouldn't take too long. Are people interested in the full sheet or just the outlines?

I got nothin'

Just the templates should do nicely. I plan to Photoshop them then drop them into my character sheet pdfs.

BTW, I never did Red October pre-internet, but I did PBEM on Compuserve dial-up BBS. What's more, I first logged onto that service using my Texas Instruments 99/4A computer with a 1200 baud modem. I had a 300 baud, but it was tooooo sloooowww!!!

Sign me up too. Hey, do any of you fellow geezers use the Champions I character sheet picture templates? There were four or five different ones...a brick, a chick, a flyer.

Absolutely! We still use them almost exclusively. I made TONS of copies of each of them long long ago, and they're still around. There were 4 males and 4 females, IIRC. One of the female poses has been lost to time, but I still have folders full of blanks for the rest of 'em.

BTW, I do qualify for the OF club via #s 1 and 3. Is there a card or something we get so I can get discounts at Denny's??

Secret old fart club

Yes!! Discount at Denny's, secret handshakes, decoder rings, Old Fart Club nicknames and key to the executive shower room.

I'm not necessarily endorsing your sharing the templates with the rest of the club, but hey...isn't that my email address in my profile?

I'd like to add a few more possibilities:

9. If you ever played a game at Hexworld

10. If you have copies of Danger International, Justice, Inc, or the original Fantasy Hero.

11. Four words-"Golden Age of Champions"

12. Two more words: "Autoduel Champions"

10. Yes, Yes, Yes (and a FH playtest)

11. The Firebird version I presume.

12. Had two copies for a bit, Bob Greenwade got it when he was first working on TUV.

I have the templates ready. I'm going to post a question in Company Questions to see if I can just post them to the site, or maybe Ben can even make them available.

Unfortunately I don't have them scanned, and since my wife got her new computer we have yet to upgrade her scanner software. They're on the top of the list of stuff to get digitized tho.

Hexworld was a "game center", for lack of a better term, in Austin in the mid 80's. Not really a game store per se, more like a very small gaming convention, that was open every night of the week. You paid a small fee, they had snacks, a game library, big tables, chairs, etc. It was a bit of a clubhouse for the Austin Hero mafia, as well as the Steve Jackson crowd. A lot of GURPS and Hero playtests were done there.

Amongst the many games I played in there was based on "The Network" from Danger International, run by none other than Ray Greer.

And how about this for entry into the Old Farts Club

13. Playtest credit.

Fantasy Hero Companion II. Never even got my copy, though.

I too, have had a similar experience with d20 players. My sister will soon be joining my group which is strictly HERO only. I figure it this way.... I'm not in High School anymore, so I really only have time for one system. I'd also really not have to lug around 50 different books to each session on the off chance that I'll need to make some obscure reference.

That being said,...make mine HERO.

Amen brother! Reading all these posts about the dozens of different systems some people play, I can't fathom it. My co-GM and I have played exclusively HERO for 20 years. In fact, except for one-shots of Car Wars, the old TSR boxed space game (don't recall the name), and the 1st Edition of MSH, we went straight from D&D to Champions to HERO and never looked back. Playing those other games was like learning to play chess and then trying tiddly-winks. I have never felt the need to try different systems because we were able to do anything we wanted with it.

This has a lot to do with our main interest being superheroes (and our fondness for hugely intricate plotlines which leave no time to play anything else), but when we finally did do a Fantasy Hero campaign under 4th ed. it allowed us to create our own universe, magical system, etc. which no other game allowed you to do, as far as we knew. We just never needed anything else.

I guess I'm one of those rabid Hero types spoken of in other RPG forums... :D

That would be interesting, though i think i still have the original sheets in my Champions box set. The box is mostly made of duct tape at this point, but the sheets are still in fairly good condition. Still, it will save me the work of scanning 'em myself. (Not to mention locating the box.)
