wcw43921
Goodness, gracious, but how could Tru Calling have escaped notice on this thread??? (It certainly never escapes my notice.) I thought one of the requirements for being a Herophile was the Psych Lim: Obsessed with Eliza Dushku.
freakboy6117
hmm i think of teh gerry anderson supermariantation shows the superheroic ones where JOE 90 and captain scarlet captain scarlet had everything indestructable heo in cool uniform with code name. flying base evil alien forces trapping the hero in easily escapable death traps not to mention sexy female fighter pilots. though i think a grown up JOE 90 wioudl be a cool character to play I'd want to be able to swap skills without going back ome. Oh and his only weakness is darkness which shuts down his regeneration powers and can kill him if he's kept in the dark too long. Forgotten about that one! I actually liked it (at least I think I did - vague memories only. Somebody already got the Gemini Man, darn it. How about a one-shot pilot - maybe Nemesis or something like it (hard to remember, maybe it was some type of bird?) - it had a man and a "defense robot" or some kind get teleported together, and when he was in danger he would transform into a robotic being. I think it might have been a Sci-fi Channel pilot, but I'm not sure - early 90s probably. Several others from the same year had a similar theme. Do any of the Japanese heroes count - Ultraman, Space Giants, and Spectreman were standard tv fare of my youth. Not quite super, but he had a nom de guerre - the sword of justice, a vigilan-type character who caught criminals with their own tricks. I don't think he had a costume, unless it was your basic black commando-style pants/shirt.
Badger
I didnt watch the Buffy TV show much but wasnt Eliza Dushku the one that played Faith? I'd definitely would like to see a write-up on those critters from the Herculoids. And for my suggestion what about the show Dark Angel would that character qualify as superhuman would seem to me. Is Sci-Fi doing new episodes (ala SG1)--a quick search of their site shows nothing. John Doe is much cooler than that dopey Pretender guy, but it's clear he is only built on 20 points-- he loses his nifty powers when he buys off his total amnesia disad in one episode. Space Cadet
Oh, yeah, Badger3k, I remember Sword Of Justice all right. It always struck me as kind of funny -- I mean, the hero was virtually telling the cops who was helping them out (using the 3 of Spades as his calling card, with the 3 representing the number of years he spent in prison for a crime he didn't commit), but the cops (one of whom was the hero's best friend) never once tumbled to who he was. His signature line would definitely have a place in a Dark Champions campaign: "The Spade is the Sword of Justice. Its rapier marks the end." McCoy
Phoebe Figalilly? She may, or may not, have had paranormal abilities. Personally I think she did, but they were very subtile. Magmarock
Let's see: 1) Kwai Chang Caine- David Carradine "Kung Fu 2) The Six Million Dollar Man- Lee Majors 3) The Bionic Woman- Lindsey Wagner 4) Lucan- Kevin Brophy 5) The Crow (tv version) Mark Dacascos, mmmmm! 6) The I.M.F team from "Mission Impossible (1966-1973) These guys had mini reel-to-reel tapes before cassetts were invented- how about that? 7) The Avengers & The New Avengers (1961-1969 & 1976, respectively) 8) Jeanie- Barbara Eden "I Dream of Jeanie" 9) Samantha & Tabitha from "Bewitched" 10 ) Sabrina "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" 11) Anthony Blake- Bill Bixby "The Magician" 12) Johnny Smith- Anthony Michael Hall "The Dead Zone" 13) Radar- Gary Burghoff was psychic on "MASH" Oh, and I second the motion of counting Vincent from tv's Beauty and the Beast! I never missed an episode of that show and was very sad when it was cancelled! And if you are countingTru from Tru Calling, then you'd best count Joan from Joan of Arcadia, too... they are pretty close, power-wise. And no one mentioned the A-Team! Whazzup with that? There were the "one trick ponies" too, like "Mr. Ed" a talking horse (pardon the pun on that one) or "The Flying Nun" played by Sally Field. Egad, I am grasping at straws now! Uhm... now, how about some villains? 1) Dr. Shrinker & his sidekick Hugo, comes to mind (remember Billy Barty?) 2) The Sleestak from "The Land of the Lost" 3) The Trickster from "The Flash" tv show (Gotta luv anything that Mark Hammill does! and I think they made up that villain character, just for him!) 4) Jeanie (the evil one, you knew she was evil because her hair was black...) "I Dream of Jeanie" 5) Serena (the evil one, you knew she was evil because her hair was black...) "Bewitched" 6) Uncle Arther- Paul Lynde "Bewitched" Man, was he ever demented! 7) The "V" aliens... 'Nuff Said! 8) The adversaries in half the episodes of X-Files were odd enough to count as super-villains, characters like Victor Tombs and Pusher. Hoo-boy! Time for me to get some sleep! Ghost who Walks
I think that if a TV show is based on a movie, and has completely different characters, then it qualifies as a seperate creation. Remembered a couple more: Friday the Thirteenth: the Series Despite its name, it had no connection to the movies. Antique dealers sell cursed antiques and must recover them or have their souls taken by the Devil. Poltergeist: The Legcy Started as a movie, but they expanded on the concept so much, I believe they qualify as a seperate event. A secret society battles mystical menaces in San Francisco. Much better than Charmed could ever hope to be.
Chromatic
Remembered another: Tracker - Adrian Paul (the tv highlander) plays an alien bounty hunter sent here to recapture a group of 230+ alien bad guys that escaped from prison. Paul isn't toooo egotistical, the form he supposedly takes upon landing is that of an underwear model.

Badger
As far as the opinion of some being "not superhuman other than usual tv-ness" or whatever. I do have to point out that characters like Batman and the Punisher are not really supers but we bunch into the category a lot. Just my 2 cents on the subject. Though why did you have to mention Touched By An Angel. i had to suffer for years. It was one of my mother's favorites. My thought on the matter is that while the characters did stuff we probably can't in the real world, within the context of their world anybody could do it. Their superhuman feats weren't meant to be superhuman, they were just overzealous writers. The fact that the A-team got shot at all the time but never got hurt doesn't mean they were intended to have buttetproof skin, it was because they were a tvshow in the '80 and that level of violence was unacceptable. This is what I mean by "TVness" Batman and Punisher are not typical guys off the street. You need origin stories to explain them. The Rat patrol were really skilled, but were not superhumanly so within the context of their show.
SDK
Anyone else remember "Golden Years"? The hero was a 60 some year old janitor who stumbled through a lab explosion, and woke the next day in his 30's with the ability to heal with a touch. He spent the series running from the lab who wanted to dissect him. Or something like that.
