Xavier
I must say. I wholeheartedly concur with the general feeling about Firefly. When I first watched the show I didn't quite know what to expect, but It worked. Thankfully I had problems catching it on television, so I saw everything in sequence on DVD. I think it would make a great setting for Star Hero, which I just purchased. I don't know what to say about the sci fi channel. Unfortunately (with rare exception) in the area of science fiction programming you get what you pay for, and all sci fi wants is generally crappy CHEAP programming: can we say Code Name Eternity? And what's with this seasons new line up? I thought they did the humor/pornography thing with LEXX. Now we have Mad Mad House (or some such) and Tripping the Rift. I'm just disgusted. And like it or not the best show sci fi channel has right now is Stargate and I think they are getting ready to switch over to a spinoff that probably won't make it if sci fi is controlling the purse strings. No offense to those who like those shows, but I detest them I do like Stargate though. I suppose they are trying to appeal to their demographic, but I think it strange when I'm in their demographic too. Ah well what can you do. Unfortunately they are the only all sci fi (Did I say all? I mean't "mostly") and it's all we have. Thank God for DVD's. Hmm...seems I launched off on a bit of a tirade. Sorry folks sci fi channel gets my blood boiling. I don't think I forgiven them for cancelling Farscape.
Al_Beddow
I have to speak up and agree the sci-fi channel has sucked since they were bought by the USA network. First, I wish they would just create a horror/paranormal channel and call it good. The potty humor (Tripping the Rift) has got to end. I've seen the first two and won't be watching another. It's pure stupidity. Unfortunately shows like the Simpsons, Beavis & Butthead, etc. have helped to show that lowering the bar sells. Quality in new shows... Remember that Showtime started Stargate SG-1 and the scifi channel bought it for season 5. Except for Farscape, I've yet to see a GOOD original series show up on the network. (anyone remember "Black Scorpion"? trashy T&A in latex). rant over
Kzinbane
Movie All is not lost... Firefly is in production now to be a movie called Serenity (the name of the ship). Last I heard all the cast except the priest and Doctor were signed on. News today on Cinescape website says they are continuing to cast for other parts. EXCELLENT! Maybe some of the mysteries that popped up in the series will be uncovered in the movie!
Xavier
Cool! I just read the article. It looks almost like it's in the bag. Thanks Kzinbane, you've given me hope!

KawangaKid
Re: Firefly Hey, they say Shepherd Book may not be in the movie! Oh well. I've only seen the pilot and the 1st two episodes from the series so... I guess I won't miss him that much. I was curious however where they were taking his particular plot thread. tancred
Re: Firefly Badger, you don't know how ironically funny that cartoon is. I watched the first 2 episodes after a friend gave me the DVD set for Christmas. Then my wife came home from work. When I told her about it, she remembered watching (part of) the train robbery episode with me when it was first on. She didn't like it then, but wanted to watch the pilot since she'd never seen it. Over the next two weeks, we watched the whole thing. But I kept having to wait for her to get home from work to watch it. Most amazing of all, she enjoyed every bit as much as I did. She's suffered through my Star Trek fixation for 17 years, but rarely enjoys any science fiction show enough to actually say so. Just goes to show you how good Firefly really was, that a non-science fiction fan thought it was great television.

Which is why I'm glad to see that ALL cast members have now signed on for the movie. I picked up the DVD set about 2-3 months ago and finally got around to watching the first ep last week. I've gotten hooked.

Spence
Re: Firefly I read the AICN's article and all I can say is OUTSTANDING!! It didn't give any real spoilers and I for one don't want any. All of the original cast is in it which is good. I am of the opinion that "Firefly" was one of the best sciFi series ever made for TV and I am really glad it has a chance to restart if the movie does well. The best weekly shows on the Sci-Fi Channel are STARGATE SG-1 (which did begin on Showtime) and THE DEAD ZONE (which premeries on USA and repeats on SciFi). I have very much enjoyed their DUNE mini-serieses and I have high hopes that the new BATTLESTAR GALACTICA series (starting in January) will be as good as the mini-series was. I class Deadzone as a metaphysical knockoff more than scifi. Like that idiotic Crossing over with what's his name. But the rest of the shows are good scifi. I do think that Firefly was better written and acted. All just my opinion though.
KawangaKid
Re: Firefly Hm. I understand that Tim Minnear isn't involved in the making of the Firefly movie... anyone know why that is? I kinda thought that both Joss and Tim were responsible in more or less equal parts for the finished product... And is that Ben Edlund of "The Tick" fame appearing as Producer as well? Cool! Susano
Re: Firefly A friend lent me his DVD collection of Firefly. It's like watching live-action COWBOY BEBOP. I keep expecting Spike and the rest to wander by in the background. Sure wouldn't suprise me any. Pity Fox yanked it.
Citizen Keen
Re: Firefly The hard question to answer when the show was on the air was whether the setting was interplanetary or intergalactic. From listening to some of the commentary' date=' I now think the whole show was set in one solar system. The Alliance controls the core worlds, and folks like Captain Reynolds can and his crew make their living out on the fronteir worlds, further away from the Alliance. But, this is up for debate. [/quote'] Actually, in one of the deleted scenes, Captain Tightpants comments that there are over 70 inhabited worlds, so I don't think we're limited to a single solar system. In the words of Jayne, "that's crazy talk". I just saw the show over the weekend, and HOLY F*CK. That show was amazing. I am definitely going to work on a campaign set in that universe. -cK

In the words of Jayne, "that's crazy talk". -cK I agree. I'd have a much harder time suspending disbelief if the show were in just one system. From the way they talk about colonies on moons, however, it does give me the feeling that the Alliance likes to colonize around gas giants -- perhaps to mine them for fuel? Talon
Re: Firefly There's a d20-friendly deckplan of Serenity which is easily found via Google. There's also a hard-core accurate version of Serenity which can be found on fireflyfans.net (go to Blue Sun Room, Graphics, look for stuff by gaidheal). I've pretty much talked myself into running Firefly HERO next Gen Con, so I'm going to be writing up the characters and will probably post them here for comment. GreyGuardian
Re: Firefly Sounds like good material for an E-book - and really if it was done well perhaps it would be possible to arrange a reasonable official liscense. Anyone see anything about the Firefly moved that was supposed to be in the works?
