Cancer
I'll want the tough stuff. So six times 10 kg, plus the weight of the frame, plus the ancillary junk and then the rocket motor. Probably between 100 and 200 kg all told, not including the main rocket engine. But we want relatively low velocity, for the terror aspect. L. Marcus
Say, how big is the warhead on an anti-shipping missile?
Cancer
An Exocet warhead is 165 kg. That's in the right ballpark.
Old Man
Anti-shipping missiles vary drastically in size. An Exocet has a 165kg warhead, a Silkworm's is 500kg, a Granit/Shipwreck is 750kg. Modern RIM-67 Standard missiles have a 135kg warhead, double what it originally had, though the Standard is mainly for surface-to-air. L. Marcus
The Swedish RBS-15 has a 200 kg warhead -- but it uses a turbojet for propulsion ...
Cancer
Pretty sure I want this thing to be going less than 150 kph at impact. well, I'll put it on the back burner for now.

L. Marcus
The orthopedics books costs an arm and a leg. Pariah
Cancer
What do they cost? This is for the freshman seminar, so cheap. Jon Butterworth's "Most Wanted Particle", and Evalyn Gates's "Einstein's Telescope". I've used the latter before.
Old Man
"Cheap" nowadays is what, $3000?
Cancer
Well, I think each of those is under $25 new from the publisher, and (as I will ensure the students know) there is no reason NOT to get used copies from wherever from this course. And those can be under $10.
L. Marcus
Used books? There are people who sell their books? For money? Books that are theirs? That's monstrous! Bazza
Old Man
$25 is not bad. Most of my astronomy and physics texts were more than that. Significantly more in the case of my particle and quantum texts.
Cancer
I think the text for the freshman physics series (three quarters) is $260 or so.

Old Man
Monstrous indeed--my freshman-level physics text was best described as a "tome" or "compendium". It was so massive that it would throw off gravity experiments in the physics lab.* Conversely some of my later physics texts were like little handbooks, yet they cost even more. * Kidding. As if you could accurately measure anything with the garbage they called "apparatus" in that lab.
L. Marcus
My cellular biology textbook would put most phone books to shame.
Cancer
My intro physics text ... I bought in two hardbound volumes, about 700 pages each. Bob & Dave 2nd edition, © 1966. ... Walking downstairs ... opening the covers ... those cost me $11.50 and $9.95 in 1975. The second one was used when I bought it.
