Cancer
Sigh. Have to buy new tires Monday. There are less exciting things to do than that, but now you're talking about watching network TV.
Cancer
It's the middle of August, and the peppers and tomatillos are ripe and in quantity in the farmers' market. Fresh salsa season. Pariah
Cancer
My teaching schedule just got yanked around, due to the entirely reasonable action of cancelling the course I was to teach this fall because it only had two students registered for it as of August 10. (Since the incoming class is rather smaller than all projections, and my class was an 8AM class, I rather suspected this would happen.) Unfortunately, to keep me employed, I am now loaded up with lab classes all year, and I acquired a second lecture class in the spring. Spring will be brutal. I have to start thinking hard about labs for winter and spring. Winter especially I am not convinced will be out of lockdown, so the labs will have to be created from next to nothing. We'll see what I can steal.
Old Man
Labs for what subject?
Cancer
Physics (the algebra-based series). I had one section of the mechanics lab this fall before; I've been teaching the 2nd quarter (fluids, oscillations & waves, and E&M) for fifteen years but we were forced to go virtual after the labs were completed late last winter quarter. And then the 3rd quarter (optics, thermo, modern physics), which I have taught before, but again not in the on-line environment. The things that were tried last spring were not popular with the students -- this series includes the notorious pre-med population, the biology students, and then several other majors populated by mathophobes, including the vehemently-believed-to-be-fake SPEX major (though I think those only have to take mechanics, which they are trying to get out of). Pariah
In this morning's "Welcome Back to School" faculty meeting, our principal all but said he doesn't expect us to be back in the building longer than about three weeks. I'm relying heavily on PhET this term.
Cancer
Saw a scrub jay at my house on Saturday. Hitherto, all the jays I've seen in our neighborhood have been Steller's jays. They have been seen pretty frequently in other parts of the city, but our neighborhood is a pretty heavily wooded area (and the trees are big evergreens), which is Steller's jay habitat. Cancer
It is my studied opinion that Word under Office365 sucks concrete Jersey barriers permeated with green, filthy, toxic slime at the bottom of an illegal hazmat dump backwards through twelve meters of catheter tubing while said tubing is in use, and tries to leave them permanently emplaced in the unfortunate trying to use it. Cancer
I find myself pondering the symbolism of reading twelve-year-old posts and punching the "like" button on items posted by people now deceased.

Cancer
Well, I've been here "only" about 15 years, and 15 years is ... a significant interval.
L. Marcus
I joined these boards in the spring of '03, I think, and you joined that summer. Seventeen years, now -- yeah, significant.

Pariah
Sounds to me like Fluff Butt could use a couple of trips around the track. Admittedly, so could I....

Cancer
There seems to be a bunny who's taken up residence in our yard, the neighbor's yard, or in one of the drainage ditches to north and south of us. Saw it in our north yard this morning. Others have seen it over the last week or two.
