Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Dark matter, I think. Black holes emit balck-body radiation. Dark matter doesn't do electromagnetism at all.

Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Is black-body radiation different from Hawkings Radiation? Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER OK, to be clearer: Hawking radiation includes both black-body radiation (which is electromagnetic) and particle emission. For the last to happen, you need the local energy density to be higher than the rest mass energy of the particle(s) to be emitted. In the Hawking black hole radiation, that happens when the curvature of space-time near the event horizon is sharp, which happens for low-mass black holes. archermoo
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER . . . So Black Holes aren't actually black. They're a very, very deep maroon. Heh. My brother at one point got a chance to see up close an F-117 stealth fighter. He also got a chance to take a picture of it. Oddly enough rather than being black the plane showed up the colour of undeveloped film.

Cancer
Re: Longest Running Thread EVER Actually, the only owls I recall hearing in the last dozen years or so were a pair of Great Horned Owls hooting at each other.
