Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

Well' date=' then it's about time. You never know how it's changed.[/quote']

Actually, I usually have a pretty good idea. I know enough about optics and how things should work to be able to work that out myself. It isn't that hard to do, if you've had even an introduction to optics. Now, getting the quantitative assessment I can't do, because I don't have the equipment, but qualitatively I have it pretty much spot on.

I startled the first optometrist I visited by telling what was wrong before we started, and his response was "We'll see about that." At the end he admitted I had been correct.

Yeesh. I picked up my old copy of Bracewell's "The Fourier Transform and Its Applications", 2nd edition hardbound, which I bought in 1983 or so for $48 ... the price is inside the cover. Used, the 3rd edition now is $144.

Lord, I hate the textbook industry with burning passion.

Re: Longest Running Thread EVER

Last night at work, I noticed a black mark on the wall next to the whiteboard, and pointed it out to my coworker. The black mark appeared to be (imo) accidental, from a dry-erase marker, and was about 8 inches long.

My coworker, who is British, said "Maybe someone was trying to be a Michelangelo, and make another one of those... Sixteen Chapels."

0.o

I had a good laugh and told him I was going to get a Twitter account just so I could tweet that comment. :D

me too, it is supposedly low print runs. Well I'm guessing that there isn't that reason if they went digital.

And I'll have to check out that book later. Holograms are FTs I'm memory serves me correct.

Physicist to the bone. ^^

However the optometrist has the edge in biology! Come to think of it, optometry is bio-optics.

Actually' date=' the bookstore piped-in music was playing "She Blinded Me With Science" when I was in there getting stuff an hour ago.[/quote']

A coincidence? In my Universe?!

Well in MY universe there is cause and effect, and I do not believe in coincidence (much), or accidental synchronicity.
