The cranky thread

Cherish these times. My own mother passed away last summer on Hiroshima Day (though she had been incapable of communication for about three weeks by then).

And I get a call today that my mother has had a mild heart attack. So I get ready, rush across the capital and catch a train to Plymouth. Turns out she is alright but spending the night in the hospital. Might have been an angina attack. Still a close one.

I hate being foresighted. Just hate it.

Best wishes, DT.

Okay, I know that this is small potatoes compared to what far too many (read as any value greater than zero) of you are dealing with but...

Why, dear Dog why, am I having to explain the concept of time zones to someone who has nearly 20 years experience in software support?  Why have I had to spend half of my day explaining that, just because it says 5:30 on your PC in the Central Time Zone, it does not mean that there is a problem when the server you are viewing shows 6:30 when it's in the Eastern Time Zone!

I suspect that there's a reason this person has never been promoted past level 1 support in 17 years.

Sorry, just needed to vent.

It's hot outside. Like nuclear hot. Perhaps a slight exaggeration but it feels that way.

I hate at a local Mexican food establishment and got sick as the proverbial dog.

Combine the two and it made for a miserable day.

Top it off with the wife saying that she isn't getting a promotion so the boss can hire somebody from outside to do the job that my wife has been doing.

Stupid day.

Why, yes, I am working with the department who was smart enough to arrange the vendor visit ahead of time, and no, your last-minute "emergency" call to that other vendor isn't really likely to be worked on today. Especially since your vendor had been telling you that you needed to reserve IT support in advance, and that he'd gladly make an appointment for tomorrow with IT to fix your issue once and for all*. Yelling through the bars that I'm needed urgently really doesn't cut it, as I also had to organize the security escort yesterday, and I'm not going to drop helping the department that did what they were supposed to do for your emergency. Calling the Help Desk won't make much of a difference, either, as the department I was working in is a cell phone dead zone**.

*Appointment made for tomorrow, vendor tech had been suggesting it to them for several hours.

**The voice mail came through 45 minutes later, after I'd returned to my office and was about to call my boss. The next call came through as I was walking out of the office to meet the tech, the next call came through as I was about to put my car into drive, 5 minutes after punching out.

Held my nose and logged in to Facebook to get some contact info. "Enter your mobile number to enable two factor authentication", it said. Well, I've done it for a bunch of other sites, might as well do this one too.

Then I start getting text notifications for birthdays, PMs, tags, likes... God. F__k you, Facebook.

I missed an appointment today because I didn't get a reminder of the appointment. I made the appointment a couple of months ago, and things got hectic, so I didn't remember.

So I called to reschedule. I had an important question to ask, and the person I was talking to kept interrupting and talking over me. Small wonder I snapped at her.

I could have made the new appointment for later today, but I'm still pretty irritated with that person on the phone, and I'd give the staff an earful about their crappy customer service.
