The cranky thread

Anyone not feeling despair right now isn’t paying attention. You guys have listened to me vent here for decades so the least I can do is return the favor.

As for getting through each day in times like this, sometimes all you can do is eat the strawberry

I just need to rant and let it all out right now.

I'm in a really bad place right now. I feel so much despair about everything, and there's no one I can talk to. Family, friends, either they've got problems of their own, or they're just tired of listening to my problems. Psychologists have never done me much good. In the past I would pray, but I've lost my faith.

But I feel a little better after typing this. Not much, but I'll take what I can get.

I can't tell you what works for you, I can tell you what sometimes, for a little while, helps me when I can't talk to anyone.

Laughter's medicine is not a long term fix, but for me it's a short term balm. I find some stand up comedians I like who rarely fail to make me laugh, and the chuckles help hold back the dark.

Sometimes I try to write. This is very touch and go, as if anything MORE often 80% I feel blocked by what's troubling me, but sometimes just writing down to myself all that's rotten and really venting as if I were talking to someone helps me. More frequently I go the other way and am happy to throw myself into creating a place so different from my current world I can get a breather.

To a certain point a long walk or some activity can help me but I'm not in great shape so that's not always an option, and it doesn't help me as much or as often.

I do sometimes pray to God about my troubles. I've tried the 'count my blessings' as I state some thanks, but more often I have been somewhat tongue in cheek with something that sounds like a disgruntled customer complaining to the manager. I know you say you have lost your faith, and I'm sorry. I'd be lying to say I don't some times doubt mine. Things have gotten so bad for my family and country in some ways that I sometimes find myself taking COMFORT in the book of Job..which sounds crazy, but it's a sign that rotten terrible horrible things happen to GOOD people, and it's not always their fault or failing. I fear my fellow Americans have forgotten that, that injustice in this life is not punishment rightfully earned. We want things to make sense. Even in a world of faith, they don't sometimes... and it sucks.

And I play music that either inspires hope, or expresses outrage. Sometimes the old teenage cures have merit.

My mom just had a stroke at 2 am. She is in the hospital now. I wasn't allowed to ride along in the ambulance because of COVID. I'm going to call the hospital and see if the family can come over to see her, but we may not be allowed in tonight.

There’s no prize for “Worst 2020”, you can stop trying now.

Seriously though, sympathies.

I saw the headline last night of Chadwick Boseman's passing. After getting over the initial gut punch I got pissed. How is it that we lose great. talented people like this; but the POTSUS (Piece of Total $#!t of the United States) survives. This is such bull$#!t.

Here's the good news: My mom is doing better. She was transferred out of ICU.

Here's the bad news: One of the pipes in the house got backed up and water filled my bedroom floor. Plumber fixed part of the problem, but the pipes are old, and I need to have a specialist come in and stick a camera inside the pipe to see what's going on. This will set me back about $400 just for the consultation, but I figure I should go ahead and do it anyway. But in the meantime, I can't sleep in my own bedroom because it smells like a sewer.

Pipes need to be replaced. Costs are going up. Now the dishwasher is broken. My mom is still in the hospital. Everything is piling up. I'm going completely nuts right now.

No kidding. I’m going nuts just reading it and I’m not you. If you have family or friends you can call on for help, now’s the time.

Brutal week you're having there.

Hope everything works out!

Just when I thought it would all be over by the end of the day, something else happens! We couldn't use the sink or the toilets while the plumbers were working. Then they said the adhesives needed another 8 hours to dry out, so another 8 hours of waiting. Then the machine broke. Maybe they'll have a new one tomorrow. The nightmare just won't end!

You're going to think I'm joking, but go buy a lottery ticket. Just one. Maybe there's some crazy balance due in this universe and you'll hit it big. If not?Well, you're out 2 bucks but at least it was a loss you had control over.

Hell, I think each of us should buy tkdguy a lottery ticket. (Except that I live in one of only six states that doesn't sell them. Road trip...?)

My state doesn't have lotteries either. The casinos won't allow them.

There are slot machines in most casinos statewide which are part of a joint jackpot called Megabucks. The grand jackpot starts at $10 Million, and goes up fairly steadily. I always shake my head when walking by our machines, and noting that the patron doesn't have max coins in (which means that they'd get something like $10,000 if they hit the grand jackpot).
