zornwil
So here's a goofy thought - will Dark Champions have any tips on the "comedic" or "light" edge for Starsky and Hutch/Dukes of Hazzard style campaigns? Does anyone CARE??? I don't care - as of just this moment (though perhaps that has to do with it being 4 AM and not getting any sleep) - but just thought of that as itis indeed street-level heroic fiction, just on the silly edge. And as I thought of that, it occurred to me there might be people running games like this or wanting to. And though I don't "care", I can now imagine being in a game like that or running one. Though it seems such a low priority it would never happen.
BobGreenwade
Re: Light Dark Champions I do agree -- this probably should be at least touched upon in the "campaign styles" section. Besides what you mention, there's also the A-Team, the later Lethal Weapon movies, Sledge Hammer, and probably several others....

Since I "don't care" I was loathe to put it into the "what do you want to see" thread.
Citizen Keen
Re: Light Dark Champions I don't think it'll be mentioned, because I have an agreement Steve signed in blood that Dukes of Hazzard would get an entire series of sourcebooks. But I guess it could be added so we could make a Knight Rider campaign... And a 6 Million Dollar man campaign... Bionic Woman....

Steve Long
Re: Light Dark Champions The book has the usual section on mixing the genre with the Comedy meta-genre. That's about it. As for a Dukes of Hazzard supplement, no comment.

Though it seems such a low priority it would never happen. I tried something once... where I didn't tell the players what I was doing (so they didn't munchkin the game) but then I rolled normal damage dice for the guns of the badguys... in conjunction with the hit location... but they got their PD against it, even unarmored. This allowed for a lot of "hits" without a lot of lethality... but the players still ducked and covered and played it "real" where if I told them I was rolling 5d6 normal instead of 1 1/2K they would have just charged the hill. Again... as the GM... just translate killing damage to normal damage... apply defenses... and you get a much less lethal game (as long as you are playing normal PD levels of 3-5) but still doing a body here or there. Not my normal kind of game, but it worked for this one scenario I was running... and could work for low level "comedy action" like Jackie Chan. Chris Goodwin
Re: Light Dark Champions Hey' date=' Citizen Keen, I see you're in Portland - me, too.[/quote'] Me three! Well, Beaverton actually, but close enough. Oregon is thick with Hero System players. You can't swing a dead cat around here without hitting several. Then why can't I find any Hero books at either of my FLGSs??? Maybe it's just a Portland-area thing, and a dearth of us in the mid-Valley.... Anyway, I'm glad to see this is going to be touched on. Hopefully the phrase "Light Dark Champions" will make an appearance.

I've heard "HERO mecca" applied (heh, I misspelt that "HERO mecha" at first)

I don't have trouble getting books at Bridgetown other than occasional minor delays. Only rarely do I get up there. Last time I was, I visited Bridgetown and saw all but two or three Hero books there -- an excellent selection all things considered. I wish Trump's and Matt's would (or could) follow suit....
