Mark Rand Posted June 17, 2004 Report Posted June 17, 2004 Assuming he didn't live in Gotham City what real world and CU cities would Batman work well in? Quote
Blue Posted June 17, 2004 Report Posted June 17, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? Well, Hudson City would seem like the obvious choice (being the Dark Champions hub). But in the real world, NY City is the only place he should be. I can't picture Batman stalking the dark corridors of Toronto, the grimy backlots of Tinsel Town, or the Potato-Mafia controlled hub of Boise. Quote
Arkham Posted June 17, 2004 Report Posted June 17, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? Chicago or Detroit. I could certainly see him running around in on of those... Quote
BobGreenwade Posted June 17, 2004 Report Posted June 17, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? Atlantic City, perhaps? Jersey City? Hoboken? He might even be willing to try a city outside New Jersey -- New Orleans, for instance. Quote
Hermit Posted June 17, 2004 Report Posted June 17, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? Mmm, wealthy billionare, surrounded by social debutantes, and he drives a long car? Dallas... of course... he could have JR Ewing as a hunted Quote

lemming Posted June 17, 2004 Report Posted June 17, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? Potato-Mafia? What exactly is that? Spud guns are used. The bodies are found with a pack of fries in the mouth. Quote
Hermit Posted June 17, 2004 Report Posted June 17, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? Spud guns are used. The bodies are found with a pack of fries in the mouth. I had heard rumor that some of the people behind "Supersize THIS" had died violently... now we know. Quote
TheImperialKhan Posted June 17, 2004 Report Posted June 17, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? For a CU city it really has to be Hudson City, and more correctly the Justice not Law Hudson City. there should be superhumans, they should be rare or very low-level but they need to be a viable threat. As for a real world city I'd say Chicago is your best choice. There's just no way he could operate in Manhattan without getting caught, particularly with the car, it's an island after all. Quote

I agree, even in the Batmobile traffic in NYC is horrible...I should know, I live there (in NYC, not the Batmobile...although I sometimes wish my car was the Batmobile...) And if Batman found a parking space (a truly superheroic thing in Manhattan), the poor yutz would probably come back to find a ticket and a bunch guys having lunch on the hood of the Batmobile. Quote

Spence Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? Spud guns are used. The bodies are found with a pack of fries in the mouth. It's kinda sick. But this just gave me an idea for a Villian and gang to use when the PC's are getting uppity. Hmmm... the ideas.... Quote
Citizen Keen Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? Maybe I see Batman differently... Yes, early Batman, from Adam West to Frank Miller would definitely be Hudson City... But Justice League Batman? Teamed up with Supes and Wonderwoman and Flash and so forth? That's really Millenium City. When Batman has the Batmobile, the Batarang and Kung Fu, he's Hudson City. When Batman has a rotobotic BatSuit, a Bat-ExoSkeleton, the Batjet with BatMissiles, Kryptonite Napalm (I love the Kryptonite Napalm), and the Orbital BatLazerDeathRay, he really enters into the realm of Champions, not Dark Champions. I mean, he's got to be built on a 2,000 pt. VPP. That's big stuff. Dos centavos. Quote
tkdguy Posted June 18, 2004 Report Posted June 18, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? I can see Batman operating in Los Angeles. Some parts actually need a Batman. In game terns, any city will do. I ran a Batman-like character in a friend's campaign, which was set in San Francisco. Quote
Mark Rand Posted June 18, 2004 Author Report Posted June 18, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? One idea I had was Las Vegas. Batman, Batgirl, and their associates (the PCs) aren't the only heroes there. There's also Lady Arcane, who lives near UNLV, and her team who deal only with supernatural threats. (Her support staff includes her housekeeper, an electronics engineer, Lucius Fox's daughter, April, a nurse, a computer expert and a DOSPA liaison.) The general public thinks they work only for Lady Arcane, but gates give the four women access to the Batcave. Bruce, his secretary, Maggie, (who is secretly Batgirl), and Alfred live in one of the two penthouses at the top of a hotel/casino/resort Wayne Enterprises owns through its Wayne Entertainment division. The other penthouse is occupied by Lucius Fox and his family. (Lucius thinks his daughter works only for Lady Arcane.) When Bruce or Maggie place their palms against specific wall panels, they are transported to an area of the Batcave where they can change int their costumes or disguises. The Batmobile exits onto a cave north of Las Vegas. If anyone tries to follow them, all they hit is solid rock. The Batmobile and other Bat vehicles can gate to the Batcave, but other vehicles can't. This same precaution keeps unotherised visitors from accessing the Batcave from the penthouse. Quote

wcw43921 Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? Well, remember, Batman relies on swinging on his Batrope to get around as much as he does on the Batmobile, the same way Spider-Man relies on his weblines. That means Batman would need a city with lots of skyscrapers, like New York or Chicago. Anywhere else and he'd need a flying vehicle, especially in Los Angeles. Quote

Most of Pittsburgh's skyscrapers are Downtown and Las Vegas's are mostly on the Strip. Quote

Metaphysician Posted June 23, 2004 Report Posted June 23, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? Um, wha?? Multiform to cover different gadget sets?? Way too complicated. You wouldn't need that big a gadget VPP though. Quote
JmOz Posted June 24, 2004 Report Posted June 24, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? I think on bats VPP you could get away with a 30 point Cosmic VPP, with a couple of not so limiting lims (May only carry 10 gadgets -1/4; must take foci, -1/4) Quote
Siberian Tiger Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? I've often wondered what Batman would be like if Bruce Wayne was a Londoner. Couldn't you see him patrolling the dark streets of the East End which in the past have been home to Jack the Ripper and the Krays. The City of London as a financial centre would be an ideal home for Wayne Enterprises Wayne Manor could be anywhere in the Home Counties but Royal Berkshire would be ideal. Quote
tgrandjean Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? I'll give another thumbs up for London. Great (and not so great) scenery. Every sort of architecture under the sun along with bombed out flats from WWII. I loved my visit there especially in contrast to SoCal where the architecture is unrelentingly boring. I'd also like to toss in Berlin and Moscow (though you have a slight lack of skyscrapers). Quote
Sociotard Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? Why not try a nice east asian city? Tokyo, perhaps? It has skyscrapers and such. Of course, traffic congestion would be a problem . . . but then that's everywhere Quote
Vanguard00 Posted July 16, 2004 Report Posted July 16, 2004 Re: What cities could Batman call home? I'd also like to toss in Berlin and Moscow (though you have a slight lack of skyscrapers). Interesting take on Batman in the Soviet Union in the "Superman:Red Son" graphic novel. Of course, he was an anti-establishment terrorist, but it was still a plausible portrayal. Quote
