Cumulative Mental Illusion

Grailknight

Question

The villainess Delirium hits a pc with an 8d6 cumulative mental illusion with a 96pt. effect maximum. She manages to strike 4 times for 28,30,22 and 31 pts and achieves her max effect. The pc's inner demons manifest and attack him using the cause stun option. How much damage do they strike for? 6d6 or 19d6?

Re: Cumulative Mental Illusion

The effect of a Cumulative Mental Power depends on the total target number the character declared when he began using the power. In this case, if the character declared that he was attempting to achieve a 96-point Effect Roll, when he achieves that, the power takes effect at a 96 point level, with all that entails.

In the case of a damaging Mental Illusion, the character would have to declare in advance that he was trying to create a harmful illusion, and at what level (since it takes either +10 or +20 on the Effect Roll to achieve). Per the rules, “The maximum Active Points in an illusory attack equals the Effect Roll achieved with the Mental Illusions dice or the Active Points in the Mental Illusions power, whichever is less.” Since the Active Points in the attack you describe are 60, the attack would do 12d6 damage.
