Re: Musings on Random Musings

For about 2 weeks a year, yeah. The rest of the time ... the wire morasses of the Western Front in 1917 were more pleasant to walk through, machine-gun fire and random artillery bombardment notwithstanding.

Yeah, but just think, you can grow hedgerows and have realistic simulations of the WWII post-Normandy Western Front.

The other problem I have is that this past winter we got lots of constant rain, and the weeds just took off. They were knee high before I was able to do anything about them and for some of them "anything" meant "Roundup". The scorched-earth policy worked, but there are still scorched patches of lawn.

Oh' date=' and since when do the spring rains break in your area? Don't they just kind of evolve into fall rains?[/quote']

Well, we haven't had three rainless days in a row yet. Usually we get a dry week in late May or early June. And it hasn't happened yet, and won't for at least a week, either, from what I read in the forecast.

Late July through very early September is usually dry here, with a couple of breaks earlier in the year.

We have a dead zone for a yard' date=' but it looks to sprouting some tumbleweeds. Eventually the plan is to xeroscape and just have rock. Maybe a nice pit to throw solicitors into.[/quote']

Only after you give them the "Madness? THIS. IS. SPARTA!" line. :D

Re: Musings on Random Musings

I always kind of liked tumbleweeds but I imagine that'd change if I owned a yard full.

Well, all the thorns are annoying and our empty lot that we plan to build on in a few years has a fence, also called a tumbleweed collector. I probably had a hundred built up on that thing.

Re: Musings on Random Musings

When I was living in the Mojave I saw people who would lean pallets or chain link or otherwise make ramps for the tumbleweeds so that they would jump the fence and become the neighbor's problem. :)

Well, the lot on the other side is totally empty...

I'm still a 'nice guy.' I will die a 'nice guy.' :(

Curious that we haven't heard from any of the women lately....

I'm looking forward to mindful and lamb being able to post here.
