Musings on Random Musings

Re: Musings on Random Musings

I'm lowering my hero games profile and sanitizing my user control panel.

My email is there if someone wants to make contact for some reason.

I simply find I have an increasingly hard time relating as time passes.

I feel I have little to contribute and nothing relevant to say about "issues."

And I don't have 6E, which is where 90% of the gaming discussion is going.

I'm not leaving.

I'll lurk and comment occassionally.

I just don't have anything worthwhile to add at this point.

Be well.

Don't be a stranger! :)

Re: Musings on Random Musings

MapQuest really needs to start their directions at around #5. Pretty sure I know how to get out of my own neighborhood.

I always edit my directions before sending to the printer. I have started directions from the intersection that I know will begin the straight shot for instance, but usually I bring it up in an editor.

Re: Musings on Random Musings

Spoilered if people haven't seen the full message, but I just wanted to highlight one bit.

All names have been changed to protect the innocent and guilty alike...

The situation: A user from another office cannot get into our network.

My e-mail to the VP of my department:

I've had a few chats with [admin from That Other Office] trying to get into this laptop. They insist that no one changed the default admin account, but the default password isn't working.

They also say that they manually assign IP addresses to the laptops for access to their network. Outside of [That Other Office] office, they need to use wireless. But, as you know, we need to install and configure [software package] to use our wireless, and I cannot install that on this laptop as this log-in account does NOT have administrator rights.

In short, thanks to the way they set things up in [That Other Office], we have *no way* to get anyone from that office up and running in [our office].

My VP sent this to the VP of Security, and CC'ed me on it:

Any ideas, [security Chief]?

The VP of Security's brief, but appropriate, reply:

None that I want to put in writing on corporate e-mail.

Different situation, but I've been heavily editing my emails lately.

I also wish they'd add an "Avoid Ghetto" feature, kinda like the "Avoid Highways" checkbox they've already got. :ugly:

Re: Musings on Random Musings

Agreed.

On importing ritual objects: don't.

We keep running into these problems.

This season is shofars (rams horns), which are used during the High Holidays.

The ones made in Morroco use a synthetic binding agent rendering them unfit.

The ones made in China are smeared with pig's fat to make them shiny.

The manufacturers are clueless.

Besides: as ritual objects they should be made by a member of the faithful.

I know not everyone agrees, but I believe you should blow your own shofar.
