VOICE of DOOM

Okay, to get someone off my back ;), I've decided to finally begin work on converting the VOICE characters to 5th. I've tried to a) stay reasonably true to Steve Perrin's vision for the characters, and 2) make them still fit as rather bronze age villains.

 

I've contacted Steve Perrin about the backgrounds and will adapt those as he direct (if he cares at all what I do to them :D) so without further ado:

Very nice writeup, Enforcer. Especially the Skill set - that resembles a 700-year-old immortal more than the earlier versions.

 

It looks like you've borrowed some of the elements from Steve Perrin's 4th Edition Lung Hung character sheet posted on the earlier VOICE discussion board thread. I'm a little tired to go into a detailed analysis of it now, but one point raised on that thread did strike me in relation to your writeup:

 

Steve Perrin's 4E version included a -1/2 Limitation on his Damage Reduction, "Figure Death/Stun first." You would use whatever damage total from an attack got through Lung Hung's Defenses just to determine whether Lung Hung was Stunned or Killed by that attack, then apply Damage Reduction. This was meant to reflect Lung Hung's near-instantaneous regeneration, which was the SFX of the DR.

 

I'll be back after a good night's sleep to offer more input. :)

hmm, I missed that. I thought of giving him the USPD "Immortality Syndrome" power.

Are you "updating" them all with experience points and giving them new flavor, or are you just converting some from the adventure to 5th Ed? The reason I ask is that I've already done a straight conversion on them, if you want me to post them (or post a comparrison to what you update the thread with).

 

For example, your Lung Hung has 1620 points while mine has 857. Just fyi.

I like this conversion also and it is very similar to one I did on Lung Hung. I would greatly enjoy seeing anyones conversions as they always provide ideas even if I may not have done them the way other people would have.

They are somewhat scattered, though; for references purposes and general interest, it would probably be useful if I attached them again here:

Yeah, I was concerned that not everyone would be set up to read them. That's from my wordprocessing program, "602 Text." Most Windows wordprocessors should be able to open them.

 

At the time I first downloaded them, my computer wasn't too receptive to the format that Steve Perrin had posted some files in for some reason, so I had to save them in another format. If you still can't view them you can always find the originals on the previous VOICE thread (which I linked to above), although you'll have to do a fair bit o' scrolling.

In case anyone is interested, I did some research into translating Black Raven's English name into Japanese. It would come out as Burakkukarasu or Burakku-karasu. (Personally I always found that name rather redundant - I mean, what other colors do ravens come in?) ;)

 

For her later moniker of "Steel Raven" (which IMHO is very :cool: ), that translates as Kouseikarasu.

Since she has plenty of points to spend before reaching Standard Super level, I'd suggest using some of them to buy her Cyborg Sharks as Followers. Also, it would probably be appropriate for her to have Environmental Movement: Underwater.

With Carrier I see that you chose to make his disease touch an innate Power rather than using Gadget gloves as in his original writeup. I agree with this move; it suits his origin as being transformed by the "goddess of disease." I also like your choices for Life Support. I'm not sure about the Expendable Focus for his gas gun, though - could you explain that a bit?

 

With all his extra points Carrier could and, with his background, should have a bunch of medical Skills. My suggestions would by Paramedic, SC: Biology, SC: Virology, SC: Immunology. Because of his extensive work with the natives of Brazil, he should probably have an aboriginal Language - from my research "Arawak" would seem most appropriate. Due to the same circumstances, Survival: Rainforest would be justifiable.
