Re: "24" Challenge

I would agree -- Jack Bauer has such a flawed personailty that he is almost an anti-hero. Some of his actions indicate that he has a very flexible morailty -- if he sees something as a greater good, there are no lengths to which he will not go, or depths to which he will not stoop, to achieve it.

This is also one of the few adventure series where the President of the UNited States is a viable character -- and also a signficantly flawed and ultimately tragic one.

Re: "24" Challenge

Let's see... for starters, Jack's disads (at least the ones I've been able to see

in what episodes that I've managed to catch) would be:

1.) A major DNPC (his daughter, at least until the current season)

2.) A Dependency (he's a recovering heroin addict as a result of a previous

undercover operation)

3.) Several Hunters (bad guys who he's managed to make enemies of in the

course of his undercover operations before coming to work for the CTU)

4.) Justice, not Law (he does what he feels is the right thing to do, rather

than what his superiors would have him do)

There are probably others, but I haven't seen enough of 24 to know what they

are.

Re: "24" Challenge

not to say that you have more research to do...but I have seen all every season...and frankly Jack Bauer is too cool to sum up with one season...Id say that to be fair to Jack you should watch all seasons and then write up his character. Jack does some really interesting things past the first season.

Re: "24" Challenge

No time to do a full writeup, but here are some explicitly demonstrated skills & whatnot:

Bugging

Bureaucratics

Combat Driving

Concealment

Interrogation

Security Systems

Shadowing

Stealth

Streetwise

Survival

Systems Operation (high-tech surveillance)

Tactics

Contact: President Palmer

Contact: CTU

Resistance

most likely Combat Luck

That's not including combat skills. He definitely has Martial Arts (not sure which - maybe Krav Maga?), lots of WFs and a large pile of CSLs.

Too true but that might take me months :)

The incidentals can be added as I learn more but I get the feeling he is already a 400 point character so what is an additional 50 points to him?

PS - it will be of great service if you point out things I miss.

He sure does! "I'll need a hacksaw" is one of my favorite lines.

His personality has changed (who can blame him) over the seasons. He must have some regeneration when you consider the latter part of Season 2.

Let's not forget his amazing never-need-to-go-to-the-bathroom power.

Kim should be a 150 pt. disad. ;-)

You forgot to include his most important skill, which he manages to use

at least once per season:

PS: Get Self Into Some Seriously Deep @#$%, 14-.

It's virtually a mandatory skill for guys like Jack Bauer.

Re: "24" Challenge

I watched the final episode of season one last night.....I knew, I knew and it still got me!! Damn it.

Anyway, got sucked into Knights of the Old Republic - maybe tonight I will get it done.

You have to watch season 2 to see the depths of what Jack will do now and how far beyond normal law enforcement boundaries he is willing to go. I won't spoil it for you, but I think it's the best example yet of how much he changed after the season 1 finale.

Re: "24" Challenge

Season 3 is the ultimate Jack suppression of his own morality. Season 1 was good for setting the tempo. Season 2 for just emotional rollercoaster. Season 3 is by far the tightest season. Season 4 just has the writers trying to dumb down the content and be too prententious.

But I'm digressing a bit too much...

Best Jack Bauer to do, IMHO, would be at the start of Season 3.

Here's a quick take on Tony. I don't know much about Krav Maga, so anyone with a better take on what moves best simulate it, sound off.

Re: "24" Challenge

Krav Maga Martial Arts:Note that this is based purely upon the data in the UMA. Personally I know very little about Krav Maga: The UMA says that Krav Maga has no Counterstrike, Fast Strike, Joint Break, Killing Strike, Nerve Strike or Reversal maneuvers. The Block should an normal Martial Block rather than a Defensive Block.

The UMA give Krav Maga the following maneuvers:

Block (Martial Block)

Choke Hold

Disarm (Martial Disarm)

Dodge (Martial Dodge)

Escape (Martial Escape)

Grab (Martial Grab)

Kick (Offensive Strike)

Low Kick/Knee Strike (Martial Strike) (2d6+7 location roll)

Punch (Martial Strike) (2d6+1 location roll)

Throw (Martial Throw)

Weapon elements: knives and clubs

35 pt Disad. I know Jack Bauer

All in all I like the write-up Eyendasky80

I'll definitely add weapon element knives. Don't know why I didn't. All the maneuvers you've listed seem to fit well but what's weird about Krav Maga is I have no idea which source is correct, but wikipedia says that it's all about hitting sensitive areas, killing strikes, taking the initiative away from opponents and reversals. Let me clip something from the site:

In Krav Maga, there are no hard-and-fast rules. It is not a sport and there is no competitive component. All the techniques focus on maximum efficiency in real-life conditions.

The guiding principles for Krav Maga techniques are:

avoid injury

go from defending to attacking as quickly as possible

use the body's natural reflexes

strike at any vulnerable point

use any tool or object nearby

The basic idea is to first deal with the immediate threat (e.g. hands around one's neck), prevent the attacker from re-attacking, then neutralize the opponent, proceeding through all the steps in a very straightforward manner. The emphasis is put on taking the initiative from the attacker as soon as possible. Krav Maga generally assumes a no-quarter situation; the attacks and defenses are intended to inflict or divert the most pain possible on the opponent. Groin, eye, and other efficient attacks are emphasized, as are a variety of other fairly brutal attacks.

Is anyone around here a practitioner? Or does the author of the UMA post here, I think I've seen his name. Maybe he can expand on this.

Re: "24" Challenge

I definitely need to get back into this show. I was over a friends house for every episode of Season 1, got up to hour 7ish of Season 2 and haven't watched since ... damn.

How many seasons are available on DVD?

4 and I saw a region 2 box set of all 4 seasons at a reduced price. I've seen a set of the first three in region 1. Depressingly enough, 2 and 3 which I rented from Netflix and don't own, are both twenty dollars more than 1 and 4 which I do own. 4 is currently on sale at a lot of places for the holidays. It may be over, if not it will be soon so buy it now and save twenty bucks.

Re: "24" Challenge

The new season (season 5) will be the first one I will watch on TV. The first three seasons were over with before I started hearing about the series from friends. Eosin loaned me his copies of season one and two and I was hooked. I rented season three and just finished watching season four on rented DVDs. I am looking forward to the start of season five.
