Damn' date=' that is [u']funny[/u]! Repped, and thanks for the laughs.

Glad you liked it, Basil, and thanks for the rep. I think I'm pretty lucky as GM's go as I've got 4 really fine players who are really starting to enjoy their characters and the interractions between them. I'm not one to play favorites, but I have to say that so far, the deliciously oddball combination of a nearly seven-foot tall Drakine, who despite his racial bonuses to STR, DEX and CON has decided to follow the path of Wizardry, and has an unexpectedly sharp wit to him routinely provides a great deal of comic relief for both myself as well as the other players. The visual of this hulking reptilian humanoid accompanied by the player's zinging dialogue = gaming table hilarity.

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Years ago, we were playing a "space western" -- yup, cowboys in space (and this was long before Firefly was even a gleam in Joss Whedon's eye). ;)

In it, there was an alien species that looked like humanoid spiders, who filled a similar niche in the universe as the Chinese immigrants filled in the American west. Some aliens had a little resturant, and we walked in, sat down, and took a look at the menus.

Me: Hm... "Flied Lice." God, I hope that's a typo.

Bill.

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

I was hanging with someone who is starting a new caimpaign, in a D20 system, just last week.

Keep in mind, I've never played 3.5 ed, only played 3.0 ed about 4 or 5 sessions although I've skimmed the books. He has played quite a bit

I don't have a quote however.

I seem to know the rules a lot better then he does or his players who have also DMed. I don't know how much of it is an inability to read or a total disintrest. I am not talking house rules here either. Hell sometimes not only did he not know the exact rule he didn't have any exact rule when one was needed, and would reply with a shurgged shoulder and a eh.

When I would look it up and explain the book, he would understand it, but I lack confidence in his abilities.

Picture being told in Hero that there is a limit to how much max DC you could do, say about 10 or 12 DC, and when you ask, is it 10, 11 or 12, not being able to get an actual answer. Even though they claim to use the rules as in the book which clearly states max DC is say 9.

Makes me wonder if I should join although it would be the first caimpain in several years, and the second in about 10, so I am rather hard up. I just don't have the tolerance for willfull ignorence that I used to. I half suspect by shock was not very well hidden and I might not get an invite to the first session ;)

Sounds familiar.

One of the only non HERO games I've played in in recallable memory was a D&D 3 campaign that I got in at a couple of friends request. I observed and read just a smidgen before making my character... a normal human fighter, among all the Half Divine quad classes monstrosities and the like (Lycanthrope Gnome Ranger/Psionicist, anyone?). I realized that D&D 3 has a lot of intricate little quirks that a lot of casual gamers might never discover.

OF course, I've always played HERO... I can PLAY the rules if I want ;)

By the end of the campaign I was the nastiest killing machine of the lot, even tho I was a good 5 levels behind the rest of the players.

When in Rome...

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Thats odd, because DM plays with 2 others who DM, and it seems both caimpaigns are overloaded with brutal character races, half dragons, celestrials etc.

In hero terms it is as if da b'ys could not see those stop signs. The books [d20 that is] do explain the dangers of say taking a Half Hill Gaint Half Dragon, as does a bit of basic thought, but I guess it is not enough.

Here is an example of the total lack of care, or reading ability.

In D20 3.5, you can apprach someone and give them a wack, but if you move from a threatened square to another threatened square, or withdraw in certain manners, you generate an attack of oppurtunity.

All three of them read it as, if you also step into a square, you also generate an attack of oppurtunity.

So basicly the way they read the rules, if you move to attack someone, they get a free wack at you. So I ask, why would anyone ever approach anyone else, you are better to stick back and wait, and if both do it then no combat will happen. Response is that the monsters always attack. Missing the point, that any slightly intellegent monster will realise the world physics make attacking first a bad thing if you can avoid it. Of course, response to these issues, ...eh? and a shurg.

I had to crack his book open, point out the explaination in the rules, then go over it a few times till he figured it out.

Its gotta be a HERO player thing or something.

Attacks of Opportunity were the thing that let me pwn that game! But like you, I had to spoonfeed the whole system to people who had been playing for years. They just couldn't grasp how AoE's worked.

It was a happy conincidence that the character I chose, originally just to "rebel" against all the weird assed PC's, ended up being the uber choice for gaining feats. By 10th level or so you couldn't loook at him funny without provoking a grip of opportunity attacks.

I was the mighty reaper of mooks!

I don't have a quote however.

Now see, that's not the thing to state on this thread. :tsk:

:D

Back on topic people!

Here's mine:

"Okay, since I haven't heard from [player 2] saying he can show up, we won't be gaming on Sunday. :( Maybe in two weeks we'll get together."

See, my FtF game is only two players now. We were at four, but a couple dropped without any word.

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Also from last Friday's Fantasy Hero game, (thanks to one of my players for reminding me about this one.)

Setup: The PCs have been on the trail of a mysterious cult for some time now. In one encounter, one of the cultists had taken a dark-colored brick from the location of the fight and escaped with it. The PCs later learned that the brick contained prophetic writings sacred to the evil god that this cult reveres.

This last session the PCs found themselves in jail for suspicion of murder and at the very least, attempting to deceive the King. While in a certain area of the prison, Grangnar (Drakine Wizard) discovers more prophetic writings on the stone wall in the same obscure language used by the cultists. He cautioned one of the more responsible, sociable guardsmen and Raz (Human Rogue) about it:

Grangnar: By the way... you might want to watch out for the evil brick down there.

Guard: Evil Brick?

Grangnar: Yes. There's some writing on the stone walls down there that could lead to trouble if the cult finds out its here.

Raz: Oh. When you said "Evil Brick," I assumed you had left a present for them down there.

-----------

And from tonight's Star Horror Hero (SH meets CoC):

The PCs returned to the medical office to find that the beautiful young doctor that they had just left there not twenty minutes ago was gone. There were obvious signs of a struggle, including a trail of blood leading out into the hall, as well as broken items in the office, opened files, papers strewn about, etc. Smith, a newcomer to the group who seems to be well-connected and quite knowledgeable about the world outside the law, had made arrangements with the beautiful woman for dinner and drinks that evening. Upon discovering her disappearance:

Smith: (Completely deadpan) Man.... I was really looking forward to pumping her...

Everyone at the table: *Snickering uncontrollably*

Smith:... FOR INFORMATION! Jeez... bunch of perverts.

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

From a pick-up starwars game last night:

A wookie and a human walk into a bar. (stop me if you've heard this one...)

When questioned about his comrade, the human answers, "Him? He's my fur coat, I just haven't had it killed yet."

Later in the same scene, the wookie is questioned by another wookie, to which he responds, "Oh, Him? He's my condom. I just haven't used him yet."

------

"If we're not here to make trouble, what the hell are we here for?"

------

On trying to break into a prison:

"We'll get the wookie arrested. Just think of all the things you can hide in a wookie."

------

"As long as we come out of it alive, it's alright."

------

Two Jedi, A Killian Ranger (alternate force tradition), and two droids are breaking into a prison disguised as maintenance workers.

The Killian Ranger and one Jedi are arguing in a corner, attempting to look nonchelant, when they are approached by a dark jedi and the obligatory cadre of stormtroopers.

Dark Jedi: "I'm not sure... Which one of you is it?"

Ranger: "What do you mean? We're just cleaners."

Dark Jedi: "Spare me. Which of you is the Jedi?"

The Jedi and the Killian turn away from him and huddle. Rock, Paper, Scissors ensues. The Jedi throws scissors. The Killian throws rock.

Jedi: "****."

Ranger: "HA!" Points to Jedi "He is."

------

Just after the group has defeated the DJ, and finishes dispatching the stormtroopers, another three platoons of stormtroopers enters the causeway, escorting the prisoners we'd gone to recover. With bodies littering the floor, the Killian ranger calmly steps up to the officer apparent and says, "We'll take them from here."

Persuasion check = 1,1,1

"Oh, okay." And they turn around and leave.

Or the troopers saw a large group of their comrades dead, along with the bad*** DJ and decided that it was time for chow.

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

Quotes from Sunday's Team F-up game:

Fatima, Dr Benedict’s girlfriend’s sister, has stolen his Amulet of Ra, making him unable to transform into Captain Mysterion. He is also aging rapidly to catch up with his chronological age. He has gone to Camden the Magesmith for some heavy weapons for his assault on Fatima’s office. He has two huge handguns and a big bandoleer of ammo across his chest. Palmer meets him at his door and notices a change in his appearance.

“Did you cut your hair?”

Later they are fighting Fatima and a veiled woman who may be Dr B’s girlfriend Faisa. Dr B autofires at both women, missing Fatima.

“Damn, I was hoping to nail her sister! I mean...”

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...

During Saturday night's Star Wars Hero game. The campaign is set in the Old Republic era many years before the movies. Our group of, most Jedi padawan characters, had been sent to open contact between the Republic and an independent planet. While there we had quarters in the royal palace. Our rooms featured a nice balcony overlooking the courtyard.

My character: "There you go... Hang up your lightsaber pointed down. Turn it on and... instant bug zapper."
