Re: Herophile Fantasy art

And Mhor' date=' a healer, sage and storyteller who once upon a time was a famous warrior.[/quote']

I dunno if I'd want to trust a guy with one eye that sez he was a healer...

Great stuff, ANB. Consider thyself repp't.

Thanks for the compliment (and rep :D)

And just tween you and I...

He actually has two working eyes, of sorts (at least in my campaign)

Its just that if he goes around showing off the magical ruby thats replaced his missing eye, people notice him a lot more.

And it can see through the leather, so the patch makes life easier.

Re: Herophile Fantasy art

Thanks. Its one of my favorites too' date=' and I'm REALLY hoping to see it cleaned up.[/quote']

Well, I had a crack at this last night, using several different approaches (selecting just the blue with differing levels of specificity, color-dodging the blue out, color-burning the pencil in, playing around with the curves, etc). All of them basically give crap results.

The problem is that the blue lines have "aged" through the pencil. So it's easy enough to remove the blue lines, but since they are stronger in both shade and intensity than the pencil lines, if you do, you end up with lines "cut" through the pencil drawing. It looks worse than leaving them in place, to be honest. I'm not a photoshop god, but I am reasonably competent. And I can't do it :(

The only way i can see to rescue it would be to grey-scale the whole picture and then go over the figure carefully with the eyedropper and brush, painting all the lines out. It'd probably be faster to redraw it from scratch :(

Sorry.

cheers, Mark

And on another note here's another character - Driss Wolfhead, a two-sword fighting Death Cultist (specialised in hunting down undead and granting the peace that comes from being cut into a hundred wiggling pieces).

Unfortunately, he got crippled beyond repair fighting a troll shaman and the Thing From Beyond she summoned up.

cheers, Mark

And here's his replacement - Uhklor.

Driss was an honour-bound barbarian swordsman who lived by a strict code of honor and was always first into combat.

Uhklor was a smarmy, sophisticated priest from the decadent city who was always first to leave the area of combat :D

cheers, Mark

And I find myself cursing the day I ever even considered trying to draw on graph paper. One of my all time favorite pics is on Blue line graph paper' date=' and I don't have the photoshop skillz to clean her up. Heres the raw scan...any of you geniuses out in Herodom able to save her?[/quote']

Unfortunately not. And I'm no slouch when it comes to Photoshop. If you had a really high res flat scan and a couple of hours to kill you could spend time cloning out the graph lines - that's the only approach I can think of that would be guaranteed to work.

I like the image too. I know it's supposed to be Celtic but it also has an Oriental feel - juxtaposition of wind motion and static pose probably.

And what kind of fantasy artist do you call yourself?! :P The armour looks useful and semi-realistic instead of gratuitously T&A oriented :smoke:

I'm sure I've seen a mask maker selling work on eBay, hand-made leather masks very similar to that worn in the image...

Nice! Great minds think alike and all that...

I had a Runequest character that coulda been this guys brother.

They even share a last name (ok, so its actually more of a moniker).

Targon hunted Chaos tho.

Thanks for trying. I'm gonna see if I can go Low tech on this and try to salvage the pic through more traditional means.

Yes, it does have a bit of an oriental feel to it...the flowing bits and the polearm head are what does it, I think.

Yes, I know a couple of mask makers who make similar masks. When I have the funds, or a good trade, I'll probably be having one made.

And I'm the kind of fantasy artist who actually fights in armor... So I have a constant internal struggle... part of me wants cheesecake, the other part wants functionality. Function usually wins. *sigh*

Thanks for the feedback. I'll be sure and post if I manage to clean her up

Re: Herophile Fantasy art

She's actually based on a miniature, or I wouldn't gave gone -that far- with the design.

Here's the mini:

-NOT- painted by me.

I got into 3D art in 1999. Originally thinking it would be an 'easy way' to do illustrations, rather than the drawings I'd been doing. Turned out 3D work is harder, and not at all like I expected it to be. But it's a lot of fun so I keep at it. There are things you can do in 3D that you just can't pull off in other mediums. Eventuallly I'll figure out how to do some of them... :P
