J.S. Bach's "Toccata in D Minor", played on the magnificent Mormon Tabernacle organ

Bach would have been surprised by the sinister reputation the Toccata in D Minor has acquired over the last century. He was the greatest pipe organ player who ever lived by all accounts, and wrote the piece primarily to show off his own virtuosity. I suspect its later reputation is from it being a favorite piece of cinema villains who used musical talent to show off their more human qualities.

Leopold Stokowski, celebrity conductor of the early 20th century (his romantic exploits were frequent fodder for what were then equivalent to the tabloids), who was a great lover of Bach, transcribed the pieced for orchestra and included it in the score for Fantasia in 1940. It is a much lighter take on the work.
