Cancer
Randy Newman wrote the song, but I think Cocker's interpretation is much funnier and truer to the spirit it is trying to convey. Tjack

Michael Hopcroft
On 9/19/2021 at 4:53 AM, Greywind said: I would feel remiss if I did not point out that this is a cover of a cover of a (likely) cover. I always think of Roy Orbison when I think of this song. The Columbia recording was not high on production values, but Roy's wonderful voice put on display the impression of a man whose heart has been shattered and is trying to talk himself into pretending not to care. But this version is very good. Can you tell me more about the artists?
Michael Hopcroft
I never thought of Pet Shop Boys as a live band. I also find that, between their per-Techno sound and Niel Tennant's lurival choices, I didn't think an aging strraight baqchelor would find as much in their songs or even want to see live video. To quote a different song of theirs, "We thought nothing would be happening. How wrong we were. Presenting a live performance of "It's a Sin." (Warning: prepare your ears beforehand, because this gets loud). It is clear to me, despite the volume, this song is of extreme importance. to him. The reasons are obvious to anyone who grew up gay n a religious home. And for me, a straight vis male, it speaks to be too in very powerful ways. Creatives who are part of a church community tend to fear that their work will offend God or His earthly representatives.. More than that, I fear my life choices in general (and those parts of my life I did not do or endure by choice). This may stray into RSP territory if I ramble any more, so I'll stop here. Hopefully you can all enjoy the video after significant mitigation of the volume.
tkdguy
Considering there are a lot of reaction videos on YouTube, I really want some of them -- especially the trained musicians -- to react to this rendition:
