The specific place was this wildlife refuge in Brevard County. Though the color looks wrong; when I go looking for images like the ones I took (which are on the archival drive at home) the closest one is the fourth image down on this page ((WARNING ARACHNOPHONE CREEP-OUT OVERLOAD)). genus Nephila - worldwide distribution, excluding Antarctica, presumably because penguins can't fly.
